Roger was a born entertainer, great singer/songwriter showman, left us way too soon.

I thought he was well known, a natural star hearing his songs when I heard them. It's truly sad to know that outside of small circles his name isn't that well known. Wonderful singer, Talented musician, composer, comedian, god bless Roger Miller!

Anyone who is a true connoisseur of country western music knows who he is. He was a very popular entertainer back in the sixties and seventies. I grew up watching Rodger Miller Porter Wagoner Ernest tubb all the good old ones. You may think he's not well known but I got news for you he is very well known

Roger Miller was a "wonder child" of country music! He never ceased to amaze me --- particularly when, during a song, he tossed off those rhythmic babbling syllables, flawlessly, at the speed of a freight train! Also, growing up in 1950's and 1960's, I loved the Porter Waggoner Show; looked forward to it every Saturday afternoon. Porter's sequined polyester leisure suits were his trademark. Dolly Partin got her start on that show when she replaced "Pretty Miss Norma Jean".
@michaelwascom629 ай бұрын
I also loved the in-house commercials for Porter Wagoner's sponsors (sung by Porter, the gang, and the WagonMasters: Soltice Quick Rub Black Draught Laxative Syrup of Black Draught Cough Remedy "Ohhh! Black Draught cleans you from the inside out!--------" (for a laxative, it can't be stated in plainer terms!)

Pretty Miss Norma Jean played guitar and sang the song "Paper Roses" better than anyone else (in my personal opinion).

My favorite part about this song is that he wrote it on Faron Youngs tour bus, in the middle of the night. He woke faron up to play it for him, and faron said it was the most annoying f***ing song he'd ever heard and to go back to bed😂
@thesmilingmercenary937 Жыл бұрын
That’s not surprising considering he was well known as a pretty miserable SOB.
@nstix2009xitsn Жыл бұрын
@tannertaylor9432 Thanks for the laugh! Well, to his friends, Roger Miller was a notorious, hyper maniac. I recall someone saying that about him on The Tonight Show to Johnny Carson during the early-to-mid '70s.

I watch this over and over. I have memorized so many of Roger's songs. He was absolutely the greatest entertainer, just what he said to Dick Clark: "I just want to be an entertainer." In every clip I have seen, the other performers were so entertained by him, their smiles were a mile wide (especially Dolly's and Jimmy Dean's; they were enchanted by him! Love you forever, Rog.

Roger’s wife, Mary Arnold, who was a band member of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, is from my hometown of Audubon, Iowa. I was working in the deli at one of our local grocery stores during high school. The Miller family was there to celebrate Christmas with her mother. I saw Roger in the grocery store, knew immediately who he was when I saw him, but chose not to bother him. I sometimes wish that I would have at least spoken to him. This was in about in 1976 or 1977.
