I used to see Roger in the Palomino Club when he came in for Talent Night. He sat at a table in back and I often was invited to join them. Roger's son and a friend of his son performed often in the 1980s. I was Herman Schmerdley in those days. Great times.

Man oh man, what a guy!! Roger Miller!! I remember Waaayy back when my dad used to sing it along with me sometimes we'd sing together .. sometimes my dad would just hum the song while riding in the car.. Either way, the song King of the Road was so different from all of the rest .. but Roger Miller, well he was a one in a million guy bc there will never be another one like him.. but his son, Dean Miller is really as close as anyone can get!! Great job Dean!!

I often find myself singing this song and as much of "Not in Nottingham" as I can remember. Before I burned bridges as a voice major and changed major and schools, I used to get a kick out of people's reactions when, as a bass-baritone, I would sing those songs. Now I serenade my young 'uns with these songs all of the time. Thanks to some family members that are long dead, Roger amd his music will ALWAYS AND FOREVER be a part of my life and influences.

I remember hearing King of the Road when I was growing up. I was 13 when it was released in 1965. We had one AM mono radio station and back then Country and Rock & Roll were both played on the same station.

Yep, sounds like my hometown. They mixed up Folk, Country, Rock, Big Band, Jazz, Classical, etc. Didn't need 15 stations to hear music, then. (or is it thousands, now, on cable?) OR you could get KOA Denver, which had no music at all, just talk.

This is wonderful and makes me very lonesome for my father. He would put music playing in the morning while we were all getting ready for school. When this song came on, he would sing along. I was a kid with a dad stationed in France when this song came out, and it was all over Armed Forces Radio, and even as a kid, I felt the lazy, swanky, poetic cheekyness of it. Always loved it, and 56 or so years later, still do.

My gosh... you sound so good, and nailed that song. Your Dad would sure be proud. My Dad passed in 2016, but I remember this song coming on when we were "whistling" our way to the dump, or to the trap and skeet club, or to the shooting range to do some shooting (he was a whistler, whistled to every song on the radio), but this song was one of his favorites. To this day it's still one of mine. Maybe one day we will cross paths, and I can whistle, and you can sing.... I know we'd surely draw a crowd.
