Great video as always Dave. Inter City 125 for me for the first run. Just a little aside regarding pulling the track together on the fishplates. I did this once and the track pins didn't hold resulting in a drive to the hospital with a length of track sticking from my thumb joint to the bone in the lower arm. 15 stitches later.!!!!....and 30 years on the scar is still there. Cheers, Bob

Looking good Dave. The upper section is very smart, nice carpentry too. My vote for the first loco would be a scotrail 47 on a push pull rake or one of your HSTs since the layout is set in Scotland. Hope it runs ok! Cheers

+EverardJunction Hi Richard, thanks for your vote....the A4 60009 and HST are front runners, but the 47 is coming up on the outside!!Yeah I am pleased with the curve on upper loop. I have tested it thoroughly but not yet allowed myself to run a train all the way around.Cheers.Dave

Dave, another interesting and informative video. A few years ago I saw a tip for the banking (or camber) of the track with matchsticks under the outer rail, but your method looks better. For me, the majestic A4 Union of South Africa. It has design, power, grace and movement.Barry. Devon.

You are coming on really well now Dave, the track layout looks good and once again very well thought out as usual, I think for me the HST would look good on the upper track especially if you could place you camera at the curves then we could get a good view of the tilt as it goes round, but as you say it all depends on the vote but whichever model is chosen it will still look good, maybe perhaps if you manage to mount your camera on to a flat wagon as it is going round i think that the view would be brilliant.....just a thought, looking forward to that particular video.

Hi Dave, still playing catch up on the U Tube videos I've missed. One question, on the super elevated section, you mention the outer radius is 36 inches, what is the radius of the inner track?Yet another brilliant video, again with excellent tips and ideas. Many thanks for sharing. Kind regards. John
@DeanPark9 жыл бұрын
+John Bennett Hi, its also 36", but because I have used flexi track it allows me to start the inner curve slightly earlier to keep the spacing between the tracks the same....I hope this makes sense?! Dave
@davegower69199 жыл бұрын
Great video Dave. The canting of the rails does make a huge difference and not done by many modelers so well done for doing it. As for which Loco to be first over the raised section I would go with the A3 'Flying Scotsman'. This will pay homage to your Scottish heritage and plus I hate diesels. What would be really good is to also have the A4 'Union of South Africa' going the other way. However I'm willing to concede to have a more modern motive power to celebrate the grand opening. As I don't do Christmas but I wish You and Yours all the very best for the Holiday and have a fantastic New Year. P.S. Have you found out who's been giving you the thumbs down?

Hi Dave, can I ask you about signals how do you know where to put which signal be it a 1- 2 -3 - or 4 aspect because I don't have a clue any info would be great thank you jack.
@DeanPark9 жыл бұрын
+Jack Brown Hi Jack, I have mainly 3 aspect signals on the lower mainlines. I have just tried to space them out evenly, making sure they are in areas where you can see them, as they look cool.; Its just all down to personal judgement, space and location. I also copied some of the signal positions based on Edinburgh Waverley and adapted this for my station. Sorry, its not more scientific than that. I sure there are hard and fast rules on how they are positioned in real life though! Cheers. Dave

HST would be my vote. It's a uniform train and will show the sweeping curves and super-elevation to their best effect. No offence meant Dave, but I think you've demonstrated a lack of planning forethought here. It's best to plan where your track will go, then cut the wood, then lay track. You'd have been better off placing the plywood panels on the legs, using the tracksetta templates to draw your curves in pencil to figure out where the inside/outside boundries for the baseboards will go. Then, with it all penciled in, you can cut your wood, and lay your cork and track, super-elevated where neccesary. It doesn't really matter too much. It'll work out fine in the end. All the only real loss is the time and effort it took to pin down track and lift wood for cutting, reinstalling the track, and nailing it back down.
@DeanPark9 жыл бұрын
+Cliffjumper24 Hi, we live and learn dont we? No offence taken whats so ever. I had planned it out using strips of paper cut at 36" curves, so knew it would work, but I wanted EXACTLY 40mm on each side of the tracks to accommodate the over head masts etc. I have achieved that accuracy by doing it the way I did, even if it wasn't the quickest way. But since when have I dont things a quick way?! lol Cheers. Dave
@MotoCrazy669 жыл бұрын
+DaveClass47 I reckon i would have done it your way too, so as to gauge exactly where the track would go. Unfortunately, i don't have space for a railway, hence watching you and Everard, Glebe Road, Graham Foulston, etc. Keep going!

My vote would be the HST in blue & grey livery. As I said last time you need to watch BNSF Birdwood Sub" HO Scale update, Part 5. by Fishplate flim to help with the incline. Greg inclines are at 2 degree rise and without using the foam.What he uses is a cheap spirit level with a screw set at 2 degree. I hope it helps you to complete the section

BladeRunner21577 Hi, I agree it is canting in uk, and you being a railway man will no better than me. I call it banking of the curve as well, is that term used?
