I still think dean is right in this scene because even though he had a chance at living a normal life, it was forced onto him and he had to do it right after he saw the one person he loved more than anyone else in the world die right in front of him. However, the fact that Bobby and Sam both wanted Dean to have a normal life shows how much better they are than John

Of course he's right. They seriously expected him to get over the fact that his brother was in hell suffering and just go on living a life he never chosen? One doesn't ever get over something like that. Especially not Dean who basically spent his whole life trying to protect said brother, even went to hell for 40y for it.

Dean's wrong. These were likely the best times of his life. He's destined to die on the hunt, no family, no life, no friends. The show ended recently and we've seen "the end", all arguments about that particular fate aside - Dean's been on a suicide run forever. He was always heading headlong into the pit. Always. A desperate attempt to stop him that actually worked? Can't mess with that. Dean's life is important - but Sam holding Lucifer in the pit was the only thing that could've kept Dean happy. Keeping a promise. A principle. Happy's not the right word - free is. Free from himself. Free from the rules he so cherished. Dean's entire life was forced on him, and he took it up willingly - so the only way to get him to actually live it again was to take it away from him. And he got just a tiny bit of living in before hitting the road again. It was only a year or so. Probably the only time he got to develop a soul. Peak into the window of the houses of people he's saved. Sure, they got sucked into the life - but so does everyone. Hunting isn't the inevitable noose everyone hangs themselves with - it's monstrosity. It's everywhere. The show is full of innocent victims. It's not the hunter life they lead that kills them, it's the thousands of roaming lunatics and creatures. Life's a meat grinder. This was a short, desperately short time where Dean was forced to save himself for a while. Just a little while. To let somebody else save him. It didn't last because Dean wouldn't let it last, even if what had happened hadn't happened, Dean would've found a way to mess it up. He let that darkness in a long time ago. Nobody is wrong here, everyone's just trying to live and let live.

@Ashwaraide Doran yeah, he'd be happier with her than he'd be with hunting. Not happier with her while Sam in hell. He was drunk and disturbed all the time with Lisa and couldn't even be happy because Bobby decided to hide things.

It is probably the worst thing Bobby did. Sam didn't have his soul, so he kind of gets a pass for the decision, but Bobby should've known better. If Sam had just been dead it might've been okay, but knowing he was in Hell - that's just cruel

Nicolle Guimarães To a degree a hunter will always have that burden of knowing what’s truly going on until they can never be fully happy but Bobby probably knew that Dear would somehow work through that pain and find something to fill that void hence the woman and the child

@@amberxv4777 in Dean's defense, I agree with you. Sam was a mess for 4 months when Dean was in Hell. The worst part is knowing the loved one is suffering in the afterlife. If Sam hadn't been soulless at the time, he would've remembered how he felt back then and reunited with Dean sooner.

They were happy for Dean getting out, but when Sam left for Stanford, he was a monster, that's fair. Did they really think Dean would be OK with Sam in the cage? Sam tried everything to get Dean out of hell, did they really think Dean was not going to try to free Sam from what was like his Hell but a thousand times worse?

I agree with the point of view of bobby and Soulless Sam. He wanted his brother yes, but he got out. Had a family life. For most hunters the only way out is death. Dean earned a shot at least of a normal happy life. They didn't want to screw it up for him

If you have watched the flashbacks when Sam's "wall" was breaking you would know that he had done some pretty unthinkable things when he was hunting soulless , alone , before Dean came . He couldn't have done them with Dean there . If he had acted that ruthless in front of Dean he would have deducted there is something wrong with Sam . So instead of keeping the pretence of old Sam all the time he left Dean where he was ..

Dean is being too hard on Sam. Dean is basically saying to Sam that the only reason he wanted Lisa and Ben was because Sam wanted him to have a life after him. All dean wanted was Sam with him, alive, safe. He drank himself to sleep, had nightmares a horrible year when he could have tried to move on with his “so call of his life” and their child but no Sam is Dean’s everything and he was mad and sad that Sam had been back for a year and didn’t look for him. The red meat episode in season 13 the girl told dean “ I watch the man I love died there is no normal after that” That quote was said to dean and had them focus on dean’s face because the truth is dean will never be normal after Sam. Even if Sam is the one to died at the end. And dean will have no choice but to let Sam died dean will never be normal again. He will lose his heart, his everything. His Sammy.

Well he did only wanted Lisa and Ben because Sam told him to go to them. So I don't think he was too hard on Sam. On the contrary, Bobby and Sam were too hard on him, letting him believe his brother was dead and in hell for a whole year. I can't imagine anything worse than living while knowing your brother is suffering unimaginable torture. Sam was Soulless and probably didn't care. But Bobby, what was he thinking hiding the truth? This year must have been like hell to Dean.

I get your point, and you have kinda right, but you have to understand that they (at least bobby) wanted the best for dean. Dean lost his father and blamed himself for his death and runs every day the guilt that his father gets tortured in hell because of him. His brother died in front of his eyes. He had 1 year to live and was in this year totally scared and suicidical. He experienced the greatest fear of his life in this 1 year. Then he got ripped apart from a hell hound in a most horrible way and went in hell. He was 40 years in hell. It's longer than his life on earth. He got tortured for 30 years straight, and they did horrible things to him that we can not even imagine. He tortured souls for 10 years, and then he finally got saved from castiel but kept his memories from hell. Without having a real break from all of this, he was forced to work for the Angels and was worried about sam. He tried his very best to save his brother, but he got brutally beaten by him. His brother broke his heart by putting a demon over him. The one who sacrificed his whole childhood and life for his little brother. Then the angels tried to break him to make him say yes to Michael. They almost broke him, and Cas beat the shit out of him. Later, he got brutally beaten by lucifer and lost his brother right in front of his eyes. Since season 2, this man has been depressive and never had a single break. They just (Bobby at least) wanted to give him a break. He endured more than humans could take, and he always kept fighting. They (Bobby at least) loved Dean so much, and they just wanted to give him the life he deserved. Doesn't matter if they have no right to take that away from him. Dean deserves to have a normal life. He himself wants to find an opportunity to quit hunting. The only reason why he would start to hunt again is because he wants to be with his brother. That's why they didn't tell him about sam. Dean did enough and deserves a better ending.

A hell hound ripped off his guts, and he was 40 years in hell. He never had a break, and he needed a break. Bobby gave him the break. I know dean suffered a whole year, but that is normal. Someday, he will get over it and keeps living. He lost his mother and his father and got over it after a long time. Bobby just wanted the best for him because this guy had never had in his life a break. Always watching over sam and lost his childhood, hunting monsters all the time, got tortured in hell, had to work for the Angel's and later he had Lucifer as his enemy and you saying bobby in the wrong, just because he gave him a break and wished for him a normal life.

The moment Dean was seriously considering Ben might be his son, it was obvious he had the ability to leave. The setup was so perfect. It's crazy how from the first ep of the non-Kripke they screw up the characters. Dean as hunter is a family thing. They moment they made him so obsessed with it he couldn't be happy with the only woman we saw him care about and her kid who he also cared about, the show was doomed to never progress anywhere.
