Most of modern drills have this problem, the switch itself does not always instantly engage if gears are not synchronized, which is more common if gearbox is shorter than usual. There is now most of time a extra spring in the selector that helps with such gear change, you can always move the selector but gear will only engage when gears finally succesfuly synchronize / move.

Hello, I bought a new ddf 486 and it seems to me that it heats up from the back without using it, I just press the trigger, is this normal, is it without brushes? Should I be worried or not? Thank you.

My 486 will show this problem and after a few seconds of high torque drilling, say step cutting slowly in slow speed, is this the same issue? Drives me insane! Mine seems to be the opposite, happens in slow speed high torque drilling, at the beginning and whilst drilling.

@enemyofthestatewearein79457 ай бұрын
I've seen a very similar problem to this with my old Elu and some Dewalts jumping out of gear. Those have a wire clip on the gear selector that gets sloppy with heavy use, then it's hard to engage in either speed. I used to just leave all the drills in one speed or the other and swap drills if I needed to change gear.

@user-yk8oq3ov6i3 ай бұрын
My DHP489 makes a loud mechanical noise, like a gear jumping inside the machine, this happens when the drill is using force. for example if I drill a hole, when the drill bit hits the hard part the machine gives a loud bang and continues its work as if it were normal. do you think this is normal?

@stefantrethan Жыл бұрын
I have not noticed this issue, but on my DDF481 the adjustable torque settings are ridiculously low. Even the highest setting is just a fraction of the torque this drill can put out. So I always have to use it in drill mode, where it will snap your arms clean off at the elbow when it grabs. I've already broken one side handle because of this, but at least they sent me a spare. I don't know if my drill is faulty, or if all are like this, but especially on such powerful drills a functioning torque limiter would be useful.
@The_fappening Жыл бұрын
Torque settings should almost be a linear increasement from 0% to 70% to drill
@stefantrethan Жыл бұрын
@@The_fappening Thanks, then mine is definitely faulty, it's nowhere near 70%.

@stefantrethan8 ай бұрын
@@Elektrotechniker It would be fine if the clutch worked properly. They have a right angle drill and earth auger out now, which makes a whole lot more sense than packing 100Nm+ in a standard pistol grip design anyway, making the DDF481 mostly obsolete.

I have an American marketed version of what I believe is this drill. (Actually I have 2, but because they’re identical, I can’t remember which one does this, but I suspect both are guilty) I took one for warranty repair and they couldn’t replicate the problem. So I’ve been wondering for a couple years how I’ll get it fixed. Most of my work is done using my lighter duty drills (all 18v makita) and impacts which why I never returned to the problem. Because the troublesome drill is only used when I have hard wood or concrete to be worked on. The plastic chuck units are never trouble. It’s funny, the dealer that was supposed to do my repair laughs at me for having the Home Depot marketed Makitas, yet the POS they push (the ones with metal chucks) are my problem children. Hoping this video might inform me how to DIY, since the experts aren’t seemingly too concerned. Rats. I watched the rest of the video and saw there is no breakdown of the guts.

The gearboxes of this model and the non-hammering version appear to be interchangable, which means the actual gear drive will likely be the same.
@solehhadi77147 ай бұрын

nope. Rubber bumper pins are still standard on most tools this drill and the drill before it has them. Some tools like recipros and SDS hammers get extra. Only impact wrenches (mid/high torque) get the extra dampener at the base of the handle.

I solved a similar problem. DF482 and DF332 models have the same gearbox. When the 1st gear in the box is shifted, the large wheel with 3 arrows on it enters the hollow metal on the washer between the two wheel chambers. Sometimes the insertion part does not fit and this creates an ugly sound (this is exactly the problem). To fix it, it is necessary to widen the hollow metal teeth on which it sits.
