M12-1.75 has the same diameter (12) but another pitch thread. It's not a fix because the thread in the oil pan will get even worse. You should go to the next bigger bolt. In this example a M14-1.5 . You have to cut a new thread in the oil pan for the bolt

What can you do if you can't re thread it....

@@elisa7joy9 Then the only solution is to replace the oil pan.

This is not a permanent fix you have to tap it larger because the nominal holes sixe is not correct

With my fair share of stripped bolts, what I do is inspect the drain plug when i change my oil to see if the head is warped. Once I see that the head is warped too much for my liking then I swap in a new plug drain plug that i bought a few oil changes prior. Pre-planning definitely helps

I agree. You should always have a spare plug handy

Is your oil pan plastic? How do you prevent the pan from tearing in removing the stripped plug?
@DeaninItYourself2 ай бұрын
the pan is aluminium. just remove the stripped screw slowly

Wtf 😂 If you stip out the threads, why do you fill oil in the engine 😸 M12x1,5 and M12x1,75 is the same diameter. Should go for M14x1,5 instead.

I didnt strip it out. the service tech did it

No way bro you put 1.75 on yours, you just made it worse. There's a plug for it. Call an oversized Bolt, and it's a drain plug too. Which would be 14.25 mm and is the right thread which is 1.5
@DeaninItYourselfКүн бұрын
good to know, however its been a while and there havent been any issues yet. FIngers crossed
