Ken opened a charity function for us (a small Liverpool charity for disabled people). He gave his time for free (listen up Cilla!, wherever you are). He spent time with each of the clients and staff we look help to maintain a 'normal' life and had us in stitches all afternoon. There was nothing showbiz about him, he was a lovely, Liverpool-loving man who appreciated the gifts and opportunities life had given him. Sad to hear you have passed, but so pleased to have met you and that you had such a fun-filled life. RIP Ken x

My parents went to see him one Christmas. When I booked the tickets I asked when the show started, 7pm said the nice young man. "What time does it finish?" I asked. There was a pause, then a chuckle, then "I honestly couldn't say madam, he stops when he has had enough." My parents got home at half past midnight.

Unlike some of the earlier negative comments was a humble, kind and generous man who brightened the lives of countless people and carried out huge amounts of work for charity. He had the final laugh at the Inland Revenue when he married his long time partner shortly before he died. A true star of comedy RIP.

I remember reading Bob Monkhouse's autobiography, and he recalled being recommended to go and see a hot young comedian at some end of the pier theatre in, I think, the early 50s. He said he could hear the roaring laughter from the place 100 yards before he got there, and he was stunned by what he caught of the show. He said he'd never seen natural comedy talent like it. Of course, it was Ken. RIP, funnyman.

I had the pleasure of accompanying Ken on one of his shows many years ago. I couldn't get used to having call him "Mr Dodd" out of respect as his accompanist. But he was wonderful, so funny it hurt, and by goodness the audience got value for money. Doddy used to say "his is the only show where you enter the theatre in daylight and leave several hours later in daylight. My goodness, compared to the current crop of non humorous entities, he is sorely missed.

A great comic who will be sorely missed, thank God for recorded episodes like this that we can enjoy for many years. The best thing about Doddy was, he was clean.....no swearing, no vulgarity, a tad inuendo-ish but compared to todays comics, he had talent that would surpass the best. My favourite joke he told was: The invention 'Cat's Eyes' for the road, reputedly came from a man who saw a Cat at night on a dark lane, his car lights reflected back at him by the Cat's eyes. They say, if the Cat had been facing the other way, he would have invented the Pencil Sharpener........ How tickled I am.....!

Sir Kenneth Arthur Dodd was one of a kind. He was a wonderful 'clean' entertainer who didn't have to resort to offensive language when spreading his unique brand of humour - in the process he brought joy and laughter into so many people's lives. Ken was once given two minutes on a tv chat show to 'do his best' with his fast gag routine. The compare clicked a stop-watch and then the trouble started... his first gag hit me like a brick closely followed by the second and third. In no time I slid off my chair crying and holding my ribs and hoping that the punishment would stop... but it didn't. The two minute time was forgotten about and Doddy just kept going, beating everyone to death with one rapid gag after another. Just brilliant!

He wouldn't have been allowed to swear on the radio, although he didn't need to use profanity. In the early 60's there were strict rules on what comedians could say and which topics were taboo. Those restrictions made comedians and writers work extra hard to generate laughs; it meant they had to really know their craft. I don't think we'll see the likes of him ever again.

Saw him at Bournemouth Pavilion about 8 years ago & with advancing years he could still command the stage, & they could get him off! An absolute class act.

Saw him on stage in Darlington Civic absolutely brilliant. Also saw in coming out of his hotel next day wish I had taken the chance to say hello and how I had enjoyed the show, but he looked tired so did not trouble him. i

I had the pleasure of being his side kick at New Brighton Floral Pavilion Theatre wearing his hairy fairy coat & hat but forgot to put my hands in my pockets for the counting your money gag,as requested in rehearsal. I felt I'd let him down but he turned it round and made it work for him and got the audience laughing their head's off so I never felt that bad after all .Great memories !
