Hi Dean, i know this is an older post.... I watch all your videos. I've been soaping for about 6 years, but I still learn so much. I have found after shrinking, I sometimes get those hard bits usually on the corners. And yes they are sharp and scratch!! What I did was purchase a little $1.00 small nail clipper (used only for soaping) and snip the hard, pointy and sharp bits off. Works WONDERFUL! Hope this helps.!

I know this was 7 years ago and this comment may not make a difference to the poster, but perhaps for other people seeing this now. First, very informative video. Thank you Dean. My only question is whether you couldn’t place the card, or rather, instead of the sticker on top of the plastic, make a card instead of the sticker and place the card inside and do the heat treatment? If that works, wouldn’t it save you another plastic wrap to avoid soiling the sticker, plus save you a good amount of steps in the process, I.e. no need to peel the sticker, place it carefully, and then apply another plastic wrap over the original wrap. Even if the inserted card costs more than the sticker, I imagine you could save money eliminating some steps, plus the additional wrap.

best tutorial I have watched so far. you are so awesome. Not sure I you would answer my question but, just wondering why wouldn't just put your label in the first shrink wrap. I realize it's sticky in the back, but maybe would not need to use the adhesive back? Just wondering. Thank you for all your great videos.
@labella9291

That's what I was thinking. Makes no sense to double wrap, and it's not cost effective. Just carefully place the label in the first bag with the soap, and don't peal the adhesive backing off.

2 things: Tip that works for me: I seal my bag, snip a tiny corner off the end, and then I use the heat to shrink wrap. That way the air can get out, and the hole can't even be seen after shrinking. Secondly, my sealer smokes overtime I seal. Any ideas what's wrong? It's brand new... (Also, I use a chopstick along the sealer back and forth, and the plastic residue comes right off. I hope that's a helpful tip, but maybe it works because it's new.)

I stopped using this format due to the fact customers said they found it hard to get to the soap. So I reverted back to just a 100x150mm plastic bag with a rubber band on it.

I like the idea of double bagging; especially for the clean label look. Are those bags a basic cellophane? They appear to be a bit thinner than what I have. I was just wondering what is the number used on the dial to seal the soap? Also, how do you store them until you are ready to use them? Does it need to be in a cool location? Thanks for the video..
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 4 жыл бұрын
I set it to 5 which is the highest but only to seal and cut the shrink bag. I think if the bag is thinner then you could do a 2-3. Trial and error is needed. I normally seal them only when someone buys them. This saves the bag from be knocked or bumped. I put them in a plastic zip lock bag until ready to pack and send.

The saponification process to turn all ingredients into soap has already taken place, so adding extra butters or clays now will not change much. If you need to use a tiny amount on a test soap and try it on your body before making more loafs.

Yes, you need to be careful. Even with a craft heat gun putting it too close to the wrap can melt it - causing holes and the soap will just sweat though the hole. When I was doing this way I would wrap once, then put my label on, then wrap a 2nd time just to secure it. Once I move in this week and get setup with new videos I will show you how I wrap my new soaps.

Dean, I watched your video to get the technique down. I like the double bag idea. My question is this. I make 20 at a time and place them on a table. I'll go back and put the label and price on back. By the time I go back to do that the bag has loosened up. Do you think if I double shrink that it will stop that. I saw one of your replies where you said you are now doing a bag with rubber band and label. No shrink wrapping? I usually have an opened soap on a dish for them to smell it. I'm ready to give up shrink wrapping since it's a lot of trouble to me.
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 4 жыл бұрын
I don't shrink wrap anymore. I had too many issues with it. The seal would break or the label would get wet etc. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXvRdGt6qcmAjNk about 7 minus into this video and your see how I now label my soaps.

The one I have is a heat seal but at a specific temp it cuts the plastic, I know there are ones that have a cutter too, but I have not used them before. As for vinyl albums, I'm not sure, never used it for that but if your using heat on them be careful. It might melt the albums.
