Hi Dean, i know this is an older post.... I watch all your videos. I've been soaping for about 6 years, but I still learn so much. I have found after shrinking, I sometimes get those hard bits usually on the corners. And yes they are sharp and scratch!! What I did was purchase a little $1.00 small nail clipper (used only for soaping) and snip the hard, pointy and sharp bits off. Works WONDERFUL! Hope this helps.!

2 things: Tip that works for me: I seal my bag, snip a tiny corner off the end, and then I use the heat to shrink wrap. That way the air can get out, and the hole can't even be seen after shrinking. Secondly, my sealer smokes overtime I seal. Any ideas what's wrong? It's brand new... (Also, I use a chopstick along the sealer back and forth, and the plastic residue comes right off. I hope that's a helpful tip, but maybe it works because it's new.)
@DeanWilson7 жыл бұрын
I stopped using this format due to the fact customers said they found it hard to get to the soap. So I reverted back to just a 100x150mm plastic bag with a rubber band on it.

best tutorial I have watched so far. you are so awesome. Not sure I you would answer my question but, just wondering why wouldn't just put your label in the first shrink wrap. I realize it's sticky in the back, but maybe would not need to use the adhesive back? Just wondering. Thank you for all your great videos.
@labella92915 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. Makes no sense to double wrap, and it's not cost effective. Just carefully place the label in the first bag with the soap, and don't peal the adhesive backing off.

I would just point out to people a common sense move, which is to move your extra bags out of the way before you start with your heat gun. If you work in a small space, you could ruin your bags with residual heat. They look great. I use waterproof labels to help with the dirty finger situation.

I like the idea of double bagging; especially for the clean label look. Are those bags a basic cellophane? They appear to be a bit thinner than what I have. Really great video, I hope to make some m&p soap soon, so this really helped me plan the packaging. I wondered if sealing the corners diagonally once you have sealed the main bag would help reduce how much is left when you shrink and get rid of the sharp plastic corners? Just a thought.
@DeanWilson6 жыл бұрын
I used this way for a while but found that customers could not smell the soap. So I changed back to a 100x150mm plastic bag with a rubber band around the top and label on the front. Now customers can smell it.

@@DeanWilson No shrink wrap?
@DiamondSu485 жыл бұрын
A question... given I started soap making to stop the use of single use plastic bottles and wrappings, seeing you wrap home made soap in pvc pretty much goes against everything I strive to do. I checked the link for said bags and found nothing to say they were even recyclable (not that it makes much difference as much of that which I recycle here in the UK has previously ended up in an illegal dump site in Malaysia according to recent research). So I’d like to steer clear from plastic in all forms. Can you advise some alternative that would stop soap from sweating or going mouldy? I’ve been using muslin cloth which unfortunately can be expensive. Even after seeing this video, I still love watching your soap making videos. 😊
@DeanWilson5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments. I understand your concerns about the recycling issues. However I do not have an alternative option for you at this time. Personal I have been making CP soap for over a year now and have not had a chance to made M&P base soaps. But saying that once I move next week I will be making M&P 90% of the time from now on. So I will look into other wrapping options for these soaps.

I was just wondering what is the number used on the dial to seal the soap? Also, how do you store them until you are ready to use them? Does it need to be in a cool location? Thanks for the video..
@DeanWilson4 жыл бұрын
I set it to 5 which is the highest but only to seal and cut the shrink bag. I think if the bag is thinner then you could do a 2-3. Trial and error is needed. I normally seal them only when someone buys them. This saves the bag from be knocked or bumped. I put them in a plastic zip lock bag until ready to pack and send.
