Thanks, Liz. I think I love making the covers most of all. It's so rewarding when it turns out better than what you hoped.

Another lovely journal, and I appreciate your descriptions of the different elements. I have often wondered about the addition of envelopes and you have helped me to understand it. Thank you.

This is magnificent! Thank you so much for the inspiration. I plan to make a journal of my very own pretty soon, and I must say I'm quite intimidated! lol Hi, New subbie here. Nice to meet you. Looking forward to more of your videos :) Crafty hugs, Sandi
@MargareteMiller7 жыл бұрын
Oh, no! I don't want you to be intimidated; I want you to be encouraged :-) I also can recommend one of the best tutorials for beginning a junk journal here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3PapqevoJprpZo You might have already heard of Ephemera's Vintage Garden, but it is an excellent resource for learning about and getting inspiration for making vintage junk journals. Hope that helps you too! :-)

I love your journal I love the clean, tailored look without all the clutter. Is the cover zigzag stitched with black thread? Can you do a video of making the cover. Also, what is the size of the cover?
@MargareteMiller7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon, yes, I too like my covers relatively clean. I don't like the bulk and fuss of a bunch of stuff on covers. There is no sewing on the cover. The black border you see is washi tape. I just created a post with the photographs only. There are some of the cover close up so you can have a better look: plus.google.com/u/0/113390061513238199934/posts/hwZVJYhnUrk?sfc=false The size is 5 x 7.5"

You have made a lovely journal with the beautiful Mabel's Diary collection and all your added ephemera...can you tell me, are your covers one piece or three, if three how are they joined? II love the tissue layer...it adds great texture and mutes the page behind it...Dixx
@MargareteMiller7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dianne, I see I need to make a video on the process of making covers :-) They are 3 pieces that I attach using tyvek for the hinges. The tyvek goes directly on to the cardboard, then the book page gets put down on top of that. Then comes the white tissue paper. The inking goes on the tissue paper with varnish over the top. Hope that helps.

Margarete Miller Thank you...yes, I am always working on my technique to get rid of spine fold "bulkiness" and have been trying other materials such as book cloth and calico...must revisit tyveck...looks like you have cracked it! Thanks for the tip, Dixx

Thanks so much! Yes, I'm pretty lucky to be living so close to a wonderful lace museum in Sunnyvale, California. I just have to figure out more projects for using my stash of lace!!

This is so very pretty! I have the kit but have not yet made a journal. I was wondering where you purchased your rectangular and square doilies and what size they are. I love all your ideas for your pages. Thank you for sharing!
@MargareteMiller7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Faye. I got the rectangular doilies in central Europe. They were made in Poland. They measure 6" x 9". The square ones (my favorite) I got at a used craft sale. The tag on the packaging says "MaryJean Collection" Item #846 5" square doilies. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much. Have been looking online but the only ones I have found come in a package of 200! I would be hard pressed to use them all.

Love this journal! I'm wondering ... how do you make the sleeves? They are different than tucks, yes? Also, thanks for sharing about the Sunnyvale Lace Museum! I am new to the area--I live in Mountain View--and am looking for resources. Any thrift/antique/vintage stores that you would recommend?
@MargareteMiller7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments, Lisa. Yes! I definitely have a little list of resources of the great places I go to for material. Check out the Sunnyvale Lace Museum FB page for the dates to the big clearance sale. There is a ton of vintage lace for close to nothing (25 cents to a few dollars, mostly). For used books, Mountain view will have some good sales I am sure, but the big one is in Palo Alto once a month. Check fopal.org for their dates. If you are on facebook, find me and If I think of more places I'll tell you.

I'm enjoying your collage work. I recently joined a collage Meetup group that I really love. Wondering if you've ever used graphics fairy.com? I use them fairly often and have a subscription. But they have a wonderful selection of free graphics too. Never heard of the ephemera link you mentioned so I'll check it out. Thanks.

Thanks, Nancy. Glad you liked the video. I like Graphics Fairy too. I've got a gorgeous 12 x 12 paperpad that I'm waiting to use when I get inspired :-)
