She was working over 400 hours a month (not a typo) in a hospital and barely able to support her family as an only child. She has been fantastic to me. A great partner. ALL women want a better life. This is just as true if you live in the west as in SE Asia. Of course, they also want someone who treats her well, won't cheat, truly loves her and shows it, etc. Guys, you do not get cute girls for free, anywhere. This is a blinding flash of the obvious. It all comes down to leverage. If you are an expat looking to live over there and have a girlfriend, thats a totally different power dynamic than a younger foreigner (and by younger I mean not a retiree yet) looking to go over there and find a wife to bring home and start a family. If I'm offering marriage, kids, citizenship, I'm not going to be putting up with a lot of crap. And didn't. If I was 65 and almost broke and retired, you dont have a lot of leverage.

My asawa of close to 23.5 years was an OFW when we met. Many years ago she said to me, "my money is my money and your money is my money". Of course, she said it in a joking way. But there is an element of truth to that. In essence, she made sure our combined incomes before we retired, were not wasted. End result, we bought a condo in Davao for a holiday home. Now that we are retired, it is home, and we holiday in Canada. About a bit over 4 years ago, she had a chance to buy a beach front lot in Davao de Oro, and she started a beach resort. Careful money management made it all possible.

when you look at everything from a financial point of view the destiny will be relationship failure. a key reason why so many Western men don't get married and don't want kids in their own countries is because of how (as you explain here) they get robbed at every turn. whenever money is involved in 'love' it becomes transactional, in this case the man is renting the love of the woman. the financial impact on young working aged Filipinas regarding their families is as much to do with the old fashioned structure of society found in many developing nations as it has to do with wealth distribution and corruption by the governments. getting a Western man and his often modest income (middle and upper income types will be somewhere else) can be an easy fix.
@robertedwards51592 сағат бұрын
All women around the world expect some level of financial support in general when in a relationship; Filipinas are no exception and a real man with a decent job/career has no problem with that. The problem is that many foreigners believe that they are the prize/studs due to social media nonsense AND most foreigners who hunt for women abroad are broke or/and don’t understand their responsibility as a man in a relationship especially to a woman who is trying to get out of poverty and also needs help for family. Basically, foreigners in general do not think the relationship situation through before jumping in and then complain when their girlfriends/wives need more than $100 a month to survive. Most guys come to Ph to get a poor young woman (that’s why you increasingly see them hanging out and filming in poor areas) and to pay absolutely nothing
@liberalideas82243 сағат бұрын
I get the reality of the situation you are talking about. In my own experience, I have naturally always been happy to buy her small gifts to make her feel appreciated and know that I was thinking of her. Nothing crazy like expensive jewelry, but flowers, treats, that sort of thing. I had thought before that an allowance might take some stress away from her, rather than stressing out chasing the next dollar in order to know that she can cover her kids' school cost. However, I never did it as the idea of stating bluntly that I was giving her money regularly felt like I was treating her a bit like a freelancer to me and she very well may feel the same. We did occasionally discuss things like helping out with the kids' clothing or whatever, but that isnt the same, right? So, if an allowance is a good idea, cool, but how do you approach that without potentially disrespecting her or feeling a bit cringe?

Irish, as a male Westerner, I agree with almost everything you're saying in this video. Western men expect to be respected, and it's nothing more than "principle" for why they get upset for being overcharged the smallest amount for a trike, laundry, or a meal - it's not the money itself, but the insult of the principle of it happening. Most westerners are friendly and love helping people who are not trying to scam them, but they get offending quick at scammers and take it personally. Again, different cultures. The Filipina is thinking, why is my foreigner so cheap; and the foreigner is thinking, you insult my intelligence by charging me more just because I'm a foreigner like I'm an idiot? Okay, you offended me once and did it once and I will not give you another chance to scam me. The Westerner now uses different trike drivers, laundry mats, and restaurants. The Westerner may have been more generous in all 3 of these occasions, but if forced, it's taken as an insult, not by the small amount, but by insulting the Westerners intelligence. I hope this is a helpful explanation.

Dear Filipina Smart Girl: A good portion of us foreigners don't like being discriminated against, and that's what the "nickle & dime" thing is all about, not the extra money. Get it? I suggest you go to Thailand and go to parks and public places and see how you like the two- tiered pricing levied on everyone that isn't a Thai and that includes Filipinos. I took my former Filipina gf to a theme park in Pattaya Thailand. At first they only charged her the Thai entrance fee but after they spoke to her in Thai and she didn't respond they took her back to the entrance and made her make up the difference. The two-tiered pricing was posted at the entrance too. Yes, I've lived in your country and three other in the last 23 years (4 countries). Having lived in SE Asia, I do know the difference when I'm charged more than a native is. It's called "equality." Anyone who goes to a Western country, especially the US, has laws against discrimination, and that includes two-tiered pricing. You get reported, and the law will come after you. BTW, I still live in SE Asia and have a Filipina wife.
@kevindavis35986 сағат бұрын

i always want to help people in need but some people really just waste their money its probably not the case in countries like Philippines were people may just get unlucky and can't afford food or other basic things

Just hang on a second girlie. Its not always the girl to support. Its when the extended members of the family want a slice of change too. Once a westerner caves in to giving a " loan " for a family member. Thats when the big problems start. Because , sooner or later. They will get into my gfs ear about expenses for this and that. And usually it never stops. Your made to feel guilty, as they say there is " no one else " they can turn to for help, when an emergency arises. And its always last minute. One westerner told me, that his pinoy brother in law wanted a "loan" of ₽85,000 to purchase a new motorcycle for a business enterprise. The american said , sure, no problem, and a few days later , a deal was done and a repayment plan was put in place. So over the next few weeks, pinoy is happily riding around on his new motorcycle. And the word got around through the family that the American loaned him the money for it. Soon after, pinoys little brother stepped up and asked about needing a loan for a new outboard engine for his fishing boat and new nets. So the American again said, sure no problem. And a week or 2 passed with no further indication of when how soon he could get the loan. So little brother pinoy came back shyly, and reminded the American about the loan, and when could get the money. The American says, oh yes, you can have that loan, as soon as your brother pays back his loan he got for the motorbike, and then i can loan it to you. Little brother pinoy was completely bewildered and agitated by this , as he knows his brother has no intentions of paying back that money. Its a really sick feeling as a westerner with a pinay gf. When the entire family seems to look at you as a walking atm. Because we are nice guys, we do help out in the start, but after that, it never stops. And it seems no one else in the family never seems to be asked. Just us. They appreciate the fact we are with their sister and taking care of her. But sometimes, we wonder what they would really think of us if we were just a province boy just like them and poor.

Wow, just wow. Not getting a deal if you find a woman here or in PH who is with you dependent on whether money is going her way or not. It will cost you in the end.
