Obbie West is a native of Los Angeles & a retiree from the United States Army. Aside from serving his country, he is an international Spoken Word artist, an Advocate and Author of a body of poetry entitled Blossom.
Obbie’s life with Poetry began in 2011 in Killeen, TX under the tutoring of the Killeen Poetry Slam and has thrived ever since. He travels the world as a guest speaker, presenting life depicting Poetry on a variety of topics.

NOTE FROM OBBIE WEST
As a child, we are oblivious to the lengths our mothers go thru to provide a quality life. We wake up every morning expecting while mothers wake up every morning trying to figure out how to fulfill expectations. As children we don't acknowledge the "how", he just demand the result. As an adult we realize how unreasonable we were.
#Mother" is a superpower. An otherworldly ability to create life and love beyond description.
"Mother" is a synonym for selfless even if it means self neglect.
Mothers have an innate and incomparable ability to inject every inch of themselves into the welfare of their progeny, all while questioning if they're doing enough.
The BEST Mother spends mammoth amounts of time questioning her efficiency; beating herself down for not doing more.
To my Mother, your efforts where insurmountable. When you thought it wasn't enough, it was plenty. Every good thing about me is a direct result of your influence. With elephatine amounts of appreciation, you're still under appreciated. Your value can't be appraised nor rivaled....My heart beats your name and will NEVER forget how to pronounce it....Happy Mothers Day

She struggled with addiction but did her best with what she had. Missing momma 😭😭

Resilient. Listening to her stories it would seem like she’s lived a thousand lifetimes, she’s literally done everything. Which afforded her much wisdom to pass down to her three children, grandchildren, and anyone else who crosses her path. She was groomed in hardship and pain, but still managed to give from a place of love that was never shown to her. She always says she asked God to help her raise us long before she ever had us. I thank God for that he definitely honored that prayer. I marvel at her heart, her tenacity for life, her relationship with God. I am blessed in more ways than I may even know yet to have been chosen to come by through her. She’s special indeed.

Shortly before my Mom died we went on a hike and smoked a joint I was 21 years old. For the first time and the only time I realized my mother wasn’t just my mother. She was a person, she had dreams, desires, fears and let downs. On that hike she wasn’t my mother. She was a friend. RIP ❤️

She raised 5 kids single handed and we never missed a step, now I struggle with raising two, and I’m still in amazement on how she accomplished it. Now she sits retired in the home we grew up in and reminisces on life while she watches TV and relaxes from all the hard work in her labor years.

My mother was the source of my greatest pain, and now she is one of my greatest loves. I remember as a child, I wanted to be nothing like her, and today I am humbled when people say that I am a lot like her! She was wise beyond her years and created words that only she had the meanings to and those mommy'isms I share with my boys today. Her words can cut you to the bone, and she has never raised a voice or a finger, and her love can heal any wound. She is incredible, she is a superstar, and when you see me shining, it's always followed by, "I get it from my mama!"
