Dearborn school board meeting to resume Thursday after ending early due to disorderly crowd

After an angry crowd shut down Monday’s Dearborn School Board meeting, the district is moving the continuation of the discussion to a larger venue for Thursday. The auditorium at Stout Middle School can accommodate 600, and there will be overflow rooms if needed. The district is asking people not to bring signs and obscure the view of others.

It's funny how in all of the news reports that I've seen about this, the book covers are shown. However, when the book is opened, the pictures inside are blurred out! My respects and prayers to all the parents concerned about this. My concern is where is the school district going to draw the line? For the most part I’m not against ANY books for supporting a particular lifestyle that are optional. However should someone suggest these topics be actually taught in schools it will make the protest in Dearborn seem tame. That’s why religion was taken from schools and despite being a Christian it’s something that I support because when you live in a land that claims to be free there has to be a neutral point for everyone. It’s not the school’s job to teach sexual pleasure and acts to children that are still learning about stranger danger. It’s the job of public schools to prepare children for the future and inspire them into thinking about what their goals and plans for life are, not thinking about sex. It’s dangerous to expose children to what at least one of the books in question shows because children under puberty don’t have the knowledge for discernment when it comes to what a good relationship is. Belief is a family matter, sex discussion is a family matter. If someone wants these books to be optional in a public library, fine. As long as the parents have a way of knowing and approving what their children are checking out I’ve no problem. As long as everyone’s rights are respected then I’m fine. Find a way to appeal to a majority of the public, not some particular group.
