Priscilla made a great point that if you are thinking of marrying someone, check to see if they have an authority figure in their life who they submit to. This way, when you marry them and have issues in the marriage, you can turn to that authority figure for help. If your spouse has no one who they listen to, then they become a law unto themselves and go rogue anytime they want to. It's very difficult living with a person like that, because they don't take correction from anybody. It makes the marriage very difficult.

Jerry is a very exemplary man. You don't usually see men submit to discipleship and mentoring like that. I was very impressed with Jerry's submission, as well as his leadership in his home. Him taking responsibility for the success and happiness of his wife and children is outstanding. Usually men want their wife to serve them, but he is out front serving his family. Amazing!

Loved when Priscilla compared the husband to the shade of a tree. Women don't struggle to submit to a husband who is a shade, a comfort, a safe place. If a husband loves the wife sacrificially, she will submit easily; she will want to submit, you wont have to tell her to do it.

I met my husband at his aunts funeral at my church in Florida. I was a member and the Director of Music for this church. His Mothers family were members of this church but I had never met him until his Mothers sister died. He was not a church going person. He said he heard the voice of God tell him I would be his wife, when he first saw me at the funeral. And he said he told God, "Oh he'll no, not this marriage shit again. I am not marrying anybody." However, his actions were not that. I was dating someone else who was a church man. He had a great job, and I loved him very much. We were talking about marriage. But James got all up in that thing and blew it out of the waters. My life improved just from getting to know him becuz he called so much and made me laugh, made my stress relief, and he cooked like a chef. My dad was ill and he came over everyday after hisnwork and cared for my dad. My dad got well in 3 days, no lie. Our house felt like.love when James was there. He was calm, quiet, he smiled alot. He did not fuss or argue. He just cooked. He was a great love that I had not known. We have 6 adult children 20 grands, 3 great grands. He is in heaven now due to covid-19. (He was a nurse, and a former Sgt. US Army, basketball star and sport fan). Great reader of the Bible. He also read all of T. D. JAKES books, Joel Noel, and another guy and wanted to talk about it. Everytime he read a book or 2, we had another baby. We were comfortable with each other with the good, the bad and the ugly, we loved each other regardless. And both of our lives improved and progressed. 😊 RIP Sgt. James Branch, Sr.

You have to work on yourself first to attract the right man. When you are still single ask God to mold and transform you so that you can attract the right person. Sometimes women/men don't find the right person because God says if I give a good woman/man to this lady/man with a bad heart the other party will suffer. You have to be willing to be a good wife/husband for God to give you a right person. God sees our hearts.

This gesture of respect and love reflects the importance of family bonds and cultural values. By putting his intentions in writing, the man honors the family’s role in the woman’s life and lays a strong foundation for their future together.

Jerry's strong, masculine, but kind spirit is what many Christian women desire. I teach English at a graduate university for national and international military officers. Honestly, I think God moved me there to help keep hope alive. These men have come under authority for half their lives. Yet, they lead with such authority, gentleness, and kindness. I once dropped a pen while teaching, and three men from three different countries jumped out of their seats to pick it up. Chyle...

A perfect marriage or relationship is an illusion; there's no universal playbook for making them work. What's effective for one couple may not apply to another. Nevertheless, I've come to understand that there's always a solution to be found. Half a decade ago, my wife and I faced such trials in our marriage that divorce seemed inevitable. Yet, through perseverance and determination, we navigated through the rough waters and emerged stronger, reunited, and more resilient

There are universal principles to make all marriage work from Christianity perspective. Submitting to the authority of the word of God. Like a husband having an authority he's submitted to. Many times people don't know there are many struggles that could have been avoided if they realize that. You don't have to learn everything by experience. You can learn by examplars. Examples of good marriages how some things were well handled. You will actually be going farther in life with this.

I literally didn't want this to end!❤ If God has someone for me, I trust Him to give me His divine best for my life. Even if He doesn't, I can see that God is able and that God still has wonderful men for His daughters. God is wise enough not to give you anything before you are ready❤❤❤

This was a phenomenal interview. This is the first time I've heard Jerry Shirer speak this much and what amazing gems he dropped. “I made a covenant to God, but I married her.” “The need for discipleship amongst men.” Mentorship, submission to God, man and each other. It is a testament to God, yes, because we need to hear all that he had to say… Thank you Laterras

LOVE the Shirers. So many nuggets of wisdom shared. Priscilla and I had so many similarities that gave me a good chuckle. I married a super-independent husband who washes his own clothes and irons his own suits (better than I do, lol); and he doesn't always need me to make his lunch. Yet he loves that I am highly domestic and love cooking, cleaning, and creating a loving home for our family. I also saw my husband's processing as withdrawal and would make matters worse feeling we needed to settle disagreements in that moment. So grateful to be learning these valuable lessons early on from seasoned couples. Celebrating 3 years this month ❤

This podcast just keeps getting better! Jerry and Priscilla were so down to earth and open. I so appreciate them sharing the real struggles they faced in their marriage. I'm sure people think there's no way Tony Evans daughter, the woman known for being a renowned speaker of the gospel, would have problems in her marriage. But as children of God, we know that the devil has no favorites! I picked up so many gems from this interview. Laterras, God has surrounded you with so many men of valor! Whenever you're ready to fully let go, you will have plenty holding your hands up! I loved your letter. Just beautiful ❤

Beautiful, wholesome, mature couple. This is the type of dialogue by wise folk, in tone and clear mind, that many try and emulate but this is the real deal. Great interview! I love that Laterras is always laughing and finding the humor in everything. I also love that he doesn't shy away in asking the pressing questions, the questions that bring greater understanding. I love that! This interview has truly blessed me, it's filled with so many gems: "Once a woman knows that she is more important than you, she doesn't have a problem submitting because she knows she will always be a priority, even over yourself." Ding Ding! "If that brother is not submitting to authority that you can see, that is tangible, healthy, spiritual authority, and he thinks he can do everything on his own and he's just wise enough and smart - think very carefully about whether that is the person you want to be submitting to in your life." "Expectations are usually unrealistic because they are in your imagination and you don't realize that you are holding people captive to a script that they did not agree to." "There's always a simple solution if you want it and want to find it but if you want to make a big deal out of it, you can." "If you realize there is no out, you're going to figure out how to work it out". "Whenever you're doing something for the LORD, he (the enemy) is going to attack that". "Maybe that's why you should consider it and think about it because you can't do it". "God doesn't call the equipped, he equips the called." The LORD, submission and sacrifice in a relationship is imperative. My LORD is too magnificent, the circle moment of God changing Jerry's heart about film to him being in front of the camera, playing the role of his older brother who discipled him and his son playing the young Jerry. Generational blessings! Only GOD. Sooo beautiful! Loved how Laterras sought Jerry's covering, love, love, love ! Great choice! Mighty men of valor! New Sub!

He doesn’t feel like he has to upstage her or get one up on her. He knows who he is and who he has in his life. So many marriages are not like this!!!
