i think they've added side movements for the spirits attacks so you can reposition yourself while also dealing damage instead of the traditional side fade slash.

Yeah, it seems like Long Sword's primary focus will be on repositioning, and have "soft counters" that reward staying out of monster's way than outright using I-frames.

This is just my take on this :- 1. Seems like if we press directional input while doing spirit slash, it will do those step now, could turn 180 degree too 2:33 to 2:37 2. Fade Slash or maybe Lateral Fade Slash changes and have 2 strikes now. 3:18 to 3:20 3. After Roundslash, we don't auto-sheath anymore and follow up with more spirit slash 4:00 to 4:02 4. After successful Helmreaker, we have option to do quick spirit slash to up the spirit level 5:01 to 5:04

Agreed. This gonna change how longsword used to be played. God mate I buy a controller soon because my default key mapping for fade slash on R key with directional inputs on WSAD is such a nightmarish thing. Really want to explore all the movements this game has to offer.😊

You wouldn't believe I was so shocked with mhw...got 600 hrs on it...but use only few weapons..coz the key mapping of the weapon combos is so abysmal on knm. Thankfully I main gs and ls...so good there..only master timing and monster and you are good to go. It's disheartening we knm can't even play charge blade or insect glaive or the right fade slash of longsword to full extent( don't know about others but honestly I can't get it down on knm)

Actually you're wrong on the second point, it's not a fade slash since it's using the gauge. It's a upgraded spirit combo.

It’s not fade slash It’s spirit blade 2 (you can tell because it costs meter, unlike fade slash) Similar to how in RiseBreak, you can skip spirit blade 1 through an Iai Slash

That looks like fade slash. Fade slash to spirit roundslash shortcut only takes 2 meters. That move right there only took 2 meters before the spirit gauge turned yellow

That final pose counter he does looks exactly like strongarm stance for Greatsword in Rise. 7:10 that quick double slash was in rise as a sprint attack and had insane gauge fill. The focus mode attack ender looked a lot like the overhead spirit slash from rise as well. I LOVE the fact that your moveset gets enhanced when you’re in red bar now.

I believe the double slash you are talking about is a part of the spirit combo now. In the video it consumes spirit gauge rather than build it. Looks sick!

I have the feeling that they didn't show not so much new trick in this trailer, i was a little dissapointed at first time seeing the gameplay, then i think since this weapon is the most popular they want to keep the real new move from us to test in the demo, but still i was planning to main this weapon too with Insect glaive as secondary. In World it was the best synergy i witness so far paralyse/mount Insect glaive with DPS Longsword was insane on multi player, that will be my idea i will prepare when the game will be release.

Overall, I like what they did with longsword here, having different moves from different titles of the game Longsword spirit combo - MH freedom unite Spirit roundslash and spirit gauge levels - MH portable 3rd Fade slash follow up attack - mh4u Foresight and iai slash - MH world Double forward slash as uno mentioned - MH rise The flurry of slashes after the helmbreaker (I call it the "judgement cut") - MH Frontier Downswing roundslash follow up attack in red gauge - MH Online And if I'm right, the final part could be the valor style longsword sheathe from MH GU

I think that last move at 5:48 is like the wirebug counter. It looks like you do that stance to parry the attack. The person that was showing the moveset might have thought the monster was about to attack as you can see.

From the footage we’ve seen so far it seems to me that Capcom seems to be doing something similar to that of fromsoftware where they take everything that we love of their previous games and pretty much bundling them into one solid game And honestly, even if we do not get any brand new weapon types for this current release I’m actually happy that we’re getting new moves for all of the weapons which makes up for the lack of new weapons since it allows, the game to feel familiar, but also new as a longsword main I’m absolutely hyped for this new iteration of the weapon and also the fact that all the weapons seem to have their moves and abilities from world and iceborne, rise and sunbreak, MH online and frontier all baked into each weapon type, but with that being said, it gets me both excited and scared on what kind of fights Capcom has in store for us in the game if they made the players more versatile and aggressive than it’s a guaranteed fact that these monsters are no longer holding back and we, as hunters are gonna have to up our game and our strategies once againso I guess until then all we have to do is prepare for the hunt

3:44 something I might have noticed, I might be wrong: after Fade Slash it takes 1 less R2(Spirit Combo) attack to power up the sword? In World I remember you went from Fade Slash(circle + triangle) to R2(horizontal Spirit Combo slash), then R2 again into triple upward spirit slash, then a final R2 for the final power up side slash. 🤔 It also seems there is more to the Helm Breaker combo, you can see after the 2nd attack right before the video cut, the Hunter looks like he is going to sheath the sword for another attack.

Pretty sure that armor, LS, and the HH are from the Doshugama line. The armor definitely, and it has the same spiral pattern on the forehead area as the weapons do (LS has that pattern on the hilt).

But I'm also not sure tho it just looked like a counter cuz the hunter was readying on a guard stance. Guess we'll know.

What if only on red gauge you have acces to different combos like that over head Slash finisher after round spirit slash cuz after getting red the hunter start doing more slashes on his attacks. And that explains why red gauge bar looks different than white and yellow not just color changes.

1st combo from vid is just pressing R2, but it can move sideway while using it. 4:00 same thing R2 with forward moment. the final move looks like counter move from rise, but can activate early. just my opinion.

that's the one thing from world that I really hope they didn't change, you should always be punished for your mis timed counters, but it would be nice if a successful Iai spirit slash can move you to the next gage level just like foresight slash...

I agree it was a bit too harsh in Iceborne, but it was way too exploitable in Rise, leading to it being spammed and one of, if not the most bland iteration of the longsword in a long time. Rise base game is basically 80% spamming Iai and Helmbreaker. It got old really fast.
