Death Aura Build in Last Epoch - Lich Aura of Decay + Wandering Spirits, Tanky Walking Sim 1.1

Amazing tanky mapping build and bossing - Lich Aura of Decay +. Wandering Spirits. Very easy and relaxing to play, just moving around, few casts of Hungering Souls here and there, Wandering Spirits on bosses. Good clear speed, high dmg to bosses.
It has many layers of defense:
- Reaper Form, which literally doubles your life, when health drops to zero in reaper form we transform back to human with full health, but if hit was heavy - rest of dmg takes from red life
- 5k armor in Reaper Form with Death Seal active (or 2.9k when Death Seal is on cooldown, 5 sec)
- 60% endurance, 950 endurance threshold (60% reduced dmg taken to that 950 of our life, which later multiplies with less dmg taken modifiers)
- 32% less dmg taken when Death Seal is active
- 24% less dmg taken while channelling (Wandering Spirits)
- high leech (from dot too), and auto healing from Aura of Decay
Important note about sustaining life in reaper form: health decay increases while you are in reaper form, so every 1-3 echoes you will transform back to human, even with high healing effectiveness for Aura of Decay (depends how many time you spend in echo). If you see that life drains fast - better wait couple of seconds in hideout before starting new echo (turn off Aura of Decay or can remove some items with poison res, so it will be faster), transform to human and start echo, then inside of it there will be no 20 sec cooldown for reaper form and you can immediately transform.
Same for boss fights, better start them with "fresh transform", so you will not lose lot of health because of drain.

Pro tips (bug or feature, idk) for Aura of Decay and max dmg against training dummy here: 8:39 For early levelling use Rip Blood and Skeletons, then Hungering Souls and Wandering Spirits, then Aura of Decay if you can sustain it. And I suggest to summon Bone Golem, it gives not bad dmg and survivability (especially if you increase threat generated in tree, so mobs almost always will target golem and take nodes that each golem's hit heals you). yea, rings can be good, if 3-4 LP to cover res, endurance, intell etc Idk about other uniques, when I checked each slot it seemed that exalted items will be better than no LP uniques. But if with 2-3 LP boots can be Blood of the Exile or Foot of the Mountain or Telf'un's Mirage or Yulia's Path. Body - Titan Heart or something else

I found a 1lp Plague Bearer - I have a choice between T7 chance to poison vs T7 Damage Over Time slams which should i go for? - Very well put together build though I feel death seal is a little underperforming what do ya'll think? 5 seconds of boom boom with that annoying cooldown isn't enough

thanks! both chance to poison and dmg over time would be good. Unfortunately we don't have tools to check how much dps those mods will give, so can't say which one is rly better. Imo maybe chance to poison, because we have less sources of this mod. Actually 8 sec boom boom with passives in death seal. And if you want to lower cooldown, get cdr in boots, so it will be 4 sec or so. I don't think that Death seal is underperforming, it's amazing skill, huge buff to survivability and dmg

Are we sure that Inspired Hunger works? I'm sitting on a dummy doing ~6k with just poison, and I press hungering souls and after the initial hit from the spirit on the dummy, my dot seems to be doing 6k still :/

that's because Inspired Hunger says "40% more dmg against possessed enemies", and possess has only 1.5 sec duration. But when we use death seal and take Devouring Release node that casts hungering souls every 1.5 sec - it always work for the duration of death seal, which is also 8 sec, same as duration of Inspired Hunger. Btw, I noticed that death seal doesn't cast hungering souls at dummy because it doesn't consider it as enemy, but on echoes and bosses it works as it should. And 40% chance for 6 extra projectiles of hungering souls also work when cast by death seal

check description, there are notes about sustaining in reaper form. You mostly lose health not from poison, but from health decay that you have in reaper form. So, as I said every 1-3 echoes you need to go back to human form, because decay increases with time you spend in that form. Do not spend too much time for taking items from the ground, you should be fast, 1-2 min for echo. Also before enabling aura, set few items for healing effectiveness, it helps to be in reaper form longer: 8:39

​@@genlover that's because of low health pool or even not capped poison res. When Health pool is like 1200 - aura heals for 8% - it's just 96 health, but when 2500 pool - 200 healing per sec. Then if you add rings and amulet with healing effectiveness - those 200 healing becomes 800 and more, as I wrote in video 8:39. Then it's easy to sustain both aura and reaper for like 2-3 echoes. One more thing, if you watched video closely, here 6:49 I mentioned, that if you can't sustain aura at the beginning - do not take nodes that increase frequency of poisons on you, better take less poison dmg instead. And you also need 5% global leech from passive, so it will work for dmg over time and helps to sustain life while running echoes, I thought it's obvious

hi, this has been my first build since i started the game yesterday but i have trouble mantainting my HP after a time with Aura of Decay active, it starts dealing a lot of damage and if i deactivate it, it basically puts me at 5% red HP because of the poison. yes, some of them I wrote here, about healing effectiveness: 8:39 But more important - what lvl you are? how much health, poison res? did you take all 4 nodes in aura of decay for healing and less poison dmg taken? At low levels when you have like 700-1000 health only - healing is weak because 8% of 1000% is just 80, when poison still deal a lot of self-dmg. Also do not take frequency of ailments in aura nodes if you can't sustain it, I also wrote it here, order of passives: 6:49, 7:14

HI, thanks for the quick response. Im currently LVL 63, 1200HP, 79% poison res, and i have the skill trees just how you show them in the video. I will try lowering the frequency of ailments.. Also have some other questions. Is my health regen supposed to be negative? Like losing HP all the time? Also, do i have to do the Idol swaping for the build to be viable? So, 1200 is not much, let's assume your aura deals you 50-70 dmg per sec, plus health decay in reaper form 40-50 (or more, decay increases over time, so after 2-3 echoes need to swap back to human form), but aura can heal you only for 1200*0.08= 96 health. With 2500 health it will be 200 health per sec. Then if you add rings and amulet with 100% healing effectiveness each - it will be 800 health per sec healing. After enabling aura you can just remove these rings and set your main rings with health, res, dmg etc Idols swapping is not mandatory, but 2 big idols 1x4 can give you up to 60% area for aura, it's good for clear. Also you can add small idols with 12-16% healing effectiveness. Swapping rings and idols is not that bad/hard as it seems, because if you don't die - you do this once and can play 3-5 hours or more without repeating it, if running echoes, bosses and don't enter towns or bazaar. And this build can do this, because it's really tanky with my setup. Lastepochtools says that for Plaguebearer staff "Timeline to target farm: The Stolen Lance ("Unique or Set Staff or Sceptre" echo rewards)" and yes, prophecies will help. But in trade faction it's much easier, staff costs from zero to few thousands gold even with good enough rolls.

Thanks! Reaper form skill's description says that health decay increases over time, that's why I mentioned that you need to go back to human form every 2-3 echoes, or more often if you run them slowly. Idk about Titan Heart, I didn't try it, just noticed that it may be good replacement for exalted body if it has some LP.

@@K2Gaming_ -- Lich spec benefits from leech. A lot of Lich mechanics intend for you to benefit from leech. I believe Titan Heart prevents leech. This just from the top of my head but you can double check that. Correction -- Titan's Heart prevents you from regenerating health.

I have a question. You have Death Seal specced to drop you to low (33%) health on activation. You also have Reaper Form - which you lose if you hit 0 health while transformed. Where I am with this build (only ~150 corruption) I have similar health to you, but I am very often taking hits that are instantly one-shotting me out of Reaper Form at 33% health, so Death Seal is more or less unusable with Reaper Form, especially on bosses. Any thoughts?

Death Seal is "very usable" with reaper form, death seal gives high dmg taken reduction and allows to tank some heavy hits which are impossible without it. Probably you just don't have 60% endurance and high enough endurance threshold, maybe also not capped res or low armor, also passives for less dmg taken while channelling

This may be a dumb question, but as I'm a new player trying to make sense of the lich class and am intrigued by the idea of a death aura walking simulator, I have an affix question. While I'm leveling I'm seeing both poison damage affixes as well as damage over time affixes. What's more important? What's the actual difference between the two?

they are almost the same for this build. But global dmg over time is slightly better, because we have some necrotic dmg over time from hungering souls, few stacks of bleeding from aura of decay etc. And dmg over time affix is more common compared to poison dmg.

Alright next dumb question, I can survive with AOD easily enough, outside of reaper form my current gear actually lets me heal back to full even with the poison, but the second I touch Death Seal in reaper form it immediately drops me to 0 from 33%. Outside reaper form my healing still keeps me alive with it active but I cannot sustain reaper form with death seal on to save my life. Suggestions?

When I use death seal in reaper form my health almost never drops, because death seal removes health drain that I have from passives, so only decay remains and it's easy to sustain with leech. Maybe you took some other passives that drain % of max life? also did you take "-40% health decay in reaper form" and "remove current health drain" in death seal? another thing, if you stay too long in reaper form - decay is very big, so as I said once in 2-3 echoes you will transform back to human anyway

I used spirit plague before, but hungering souls is better both for clear and bossing because of 40% more global dmg over time buff for 8 sec, so we can channel wandering spirits those 8 sec and while death seal is active - it auto shoots hungering souls, so boss is always possessed (only 1.5 sec ailment duration and auto casts also every 1.5 sec, perfect)

Thanks! no levelling guide, except for what I wrote in pinned comment, and order of taking passives in skill trees in video. First 5-8 levels are the slowest with skeletons, rip blood, hungering souls, then with wandering spirits at least single target dmg is good. Then can use Spirit Plague or keep using hungering souls and bone golem. After lvl 30-40 probably can swap to aura of decay (I swapped bit later, hungering souls/spirit plague worked not bad, so I didn't see the reason to change anything until lvl 54 when I finished quests and reached monoliths). You need to have enough poison res, healing effectiveness, endurance etc to survive with aura of decay at low levels. Because of low life pool at low levels - healing from aura is also very low compared to self dmg from poison stacks.
