They didn't mention how broken Wukong's shapshifting is. If by some miracle Heracles was stronger, Wukong can shapshift into a version of himself that's stronger than his opponent. His only limitation is shifting into the Buddha himself.

And the 'becoming a stronger version of himself' is similarly bullshit. He's powerful enough without making blatant nonsense to overinflate his capabilities. 'Only the buddha', no. Wukong has faced several problems and enemies in the book that he couldn't deal with without outside assistance and divine intervention.

@@jonathangoodwin5609 i should point out that before being sealed under the mountain by the buddha, wukong was capable of fighting all of heaven, earth and the underworld by himself, and the bull demon king, a major antagonist in later chapters, was so terrified by the power wukong released, while celebrating his first immortality, that he immediately surrendered and swore loyalty to him after the mountain, he was tricked into wearing a golden headband that prevents him from either disobeying tripitaka or doing any unsavory actions, i.e not allowed to do most of his bullshit as it is considered to brutal and against the teachings of buddhism, which is then removed after he attained buddhahood. so for most of his "defeats" it was because he was physically not allowed to use his best stuff, there are other explanations by scholars such as malnutrition or holding back, but most follow the "use of deadly/ unbuddhist actions denied by headband"

If you guys are interested after seeing this, I highly recommend LEGO Monkie Kid! It's a tv series and LEGO line based on the Journey to the West characters and it's amazing! Sun Wukong, voiced by Goku's English VA, picks a noodle delivery oy called MK to be his successor. If you have any doubt about how amazing this series is, let me put it this way: In season 3, Son Goku fights Ichigo Kurosaki!

It looks interesting but if you want probably the most accurate retelling of Journey to the West without reading the book try Journey to the West 1986. It's a TV series that can be watched on KZbin, though it has small subtitles. I can tell you the other media's of Sun Wukong that were used in the video, except the CGI one, I've been looking around.

5:15 Believe it or not, that's actually one of Heracles' sweeter moments; showing he was a serious Bro. Ok, so the story goes that King Admetus was supposed to die, and Queen Alcestis gave her life to the god Thanatos (Quiet Death) in exchange for him to live. When Heracles heard Admets say that she was dead, he went, "OH HADES NO!" And beat the crap out of Thanatos. Some versions say that he marched down to Tartarus and confronted Hades, Lord of the Underworld and his uncle; saying "Give this woman's soul back ASAP." Hades, a stickler for the rules, said, "Give me one good reason why I should break the rules of death for one mortal." Heracles, a stubborn man with a good heart, told Hades the love story between Admetus and Alcestis. And Hades, the stoic stone faced God that doesn't even smile, began to *CRY* because the story was THAT beautiful; saying "Alright. Take her back, quickly." This bring one of the very few times Hades has cried. Yeah, no caveats, no qualifiers, she could just go home. And he reunited these two crazy royals and those two lived happily ever after until they passed at the same time, and Heracles went off to more Pulpy adventures. Not as wacky as when he fought Antaeus and discovered a tribe of Pygmies that were so small that the full tribe could fit in his pockets, but I find the story rather sweet.

Probably because 1:that wouldn't make for an interesting fight and 2:we have no feats for Buddha Wukong, and also I'm fairly certain the story never explicitly states that he ascended to the same level as the Buddha, just that be was given the 'buddha' thing as a title. Whether being given a title grants his the same abilities as the actual Buddha is unclear and irrelevant for the purposes of the fight.
