My big problem with this Death Battle was that they point out that Doom Guy is a mobile combatant that uses Run & Gun strategy and has some speed to his movement, but in the actual fight they present Doom Guy spends half the fight standing still and the rest *slowly* moving forward. In the old Doom games those were quick ways to get killed.

I would argue that the difference is that in gameplay, OG Doomguy's enemies would be standing relatively still, whereas Masterchief's enemies hop around more, so having MC be the more mobile combatant in their fight actually makes more sense. Bear in mind that if we treated the video game characters as if they were being controlled by the best players of the game, then you would possibly need to attribute somewhat glitchy things like rocket jumping to MC. Gameplay itself can't be the arbiter of what the limits of what character is canonically capable of. If so, then Kirby can't be attributed his nearly invulnerable body, since he has a standard finite health bar in all his games

I mean the same was for that god awful Tracer vs Scout match-up. Scout supposedly was very quick on his feet yet spent most of the fight standing in mostly one spot and then dying.

Others have already addressed the hellish elephant in the room, so I'm just gonna say that I appreciate this fight for what it was. Sure, the reboot makes things VERY different, but the two combatants were on relatively even ground back in those days. And, I gotta say, that bit of Porky Pig improv at the beginning was hilarious. Intentional or not, it got a genuine chuckle out of me. Great content as usual!

This is really a fight they need to completely remaster in full 3D with Chief versus the Slayer. Not only would the fight be something of godlike proportions. The accompanying music track made for it would be, as any fan of the franchises would say, "Something homely to rip and tear to while you finish the fight."

As cool as this fight was, the old Doomguy COULD beat Master Chief, albeit with difficulty. Doomslayer from 2016 and 2020 would eviscerate Chief in a single blow. Still, this Death Battle was one of the first so you can understand why it was inaccurate, and the animation is still well done.

The problem is the "With difficulty". The durability difference was way too big because Chief has recharging shields. Doom guy does not. With the newest games I mean. Chief still has durability advantage. Both have grapples. Now Doom Slayer key word SLAYER has a sword and gauntlet thing. He has a wearable flamethrower as compared to Chiefs flamethrower he has to carry. It would certainly be a more intense fight but as for which would win I honestly don't know since Doom's character is now more versatile

God, everyone knows that Doom Guy with the current Doom Slayer feats would slaughter chief, we don't need a rematch, there's no point. Master Chief is great, but has no chance against The Slayer and EVERYONE knows it.

This came out before Doom 2016 so it's really Master Chief vs Doom Guy which is a much different fight than Master Chief vs the Doom Slayer. Which is misleading when they updated the portrait but oh well. Chief is the better written character because, let's be honest, Doom's lore is insane, but really now it's at the point where nothing Chief has would really hurt him. I mean one of his lesser feats is he shot himself out of an anti-ship cannon into a wall and he just shrugged like his shoulder was tight. NATO rounds are not doing anything to that.\ I guess I would argue some of the points in this as well, like his enemies being simple. That's more of a limitation of a game that came out in the early 90s than what was intended plot wise. That and he did still destroy an arm of demons where the entire Mar's and Earth's military failed and in the Mars case, he started off with a pistol canonically. They make fair points but even if you just transplant how enemies behave in 2016 to the equivalent enemies in Doom 2, it's a different argument.

There was outrage for this one. But it's kind of justified. They show a lot of the Slayer and they mean Doom Guy. Slayer was a 2016 reboot and Chief has no chance. Chief never wielded everything even in books. I 100% agree old Doom Guy loses because he's human with good gear. However there's no win condition vs Doom Slayer. He's immortal, has literally invincible armor, unlimited stamina, doesn't need to eat, blessed by angels and demons, ect. Hell could only seal him. I'm not even talking about his feats. The reboot still makes him angry Boi that lost his pet bunny Daisy. But also added he can't be beaten in combat. He is the strongest Shooter character, literally the devs said that's what they set out to do.

His greatest fear is killing Zeus who can rip through Gaia. The Slayer has killed the Titan before receiving his gear and blessings. The Titan was the strongest demon and before that he was geared by an entire dimension. In the Slayers verse he has no moment of weakness and no equal. Every battle including ancient gods he had won. Even against other immortals, he found a way to kill them. He devours the souls of demons. Kratos still has Greek mythos levels of power, not really that Godly but pretty good. I'd say Doom Slayer is a 40k God level power and not Greek/Norse level.

I don't, we know definitively who will win. I know there have been past death battles for those types of match ups as well, but I've never been a huge fan of those ones simply because we all know who will win. In this case it wasn't so clear cut, Doom Guy could have certainly won against Chief in some instances, but I could also see chief winning as well. After getting the Doom Slayer upgrade though, he'd only maul Chief.

The Divinity Engine made him a god. Before that, he was simply a spite-driven man. Now, there ARE a few new revelations (get it?) about the HUMAN Doomguy in 2016 and Eternal (like the fact he was able to slay a Titan bare-handed, and naked, while surrounded by demons), but this was made way before 2016 or Eternal came out. They did get his top-speed a bit off, though. IIRC, his top speed is more akin to 70MPH pre-Divinity, and closer to 90 post-Divinity. I don't know much about the evolution of John after Halo 3 (because I didn't care to spend 60 bucks to pick up a 90-minute game for Halo 4, 5 didn't even remember Chief was the main character, and Infinite is hot garbage, from what I've been told), but I don't think he has ascended to literal godhood. I don't think comparing the Slayer to anyone is 'fair' at this point, because Id have said their whole point is for him to get even more stupidly powerful as they go on.

@@acrab6527 I never really played Marathon. So I tried looking it up. Literally zero canon 'god' status on Chief. The enemies he meets claim he is a Prophet, sure, but there is no canon explanation that states he is literal divinity. The Sangheili call him the Devil, sure, but that's more superstition as opposed to literally being fed through a machine that rips you apart molecule by molecule and makes you literally Divine. That said, Multiversal relations between selves would be messy to compare, regardless.

Classic Doomguy was already fast and powefull as we was back in the 90's, tanking rockets to the face like it was nothing and dishing even worse punishement, carrying an entire arsenal of several heavy weapons with full on botomless clips, went trought literal Hell and saved Heart on his own after the Demons had killed billions of people.... that death battle was controvesial for sure back then cause Classic Doom guy, while absolutely overpowering Chief with speed, strenght and power alone, wasn't as relevent as he is today... Nowadays trought..... It's best safe to assume that The Slayer pretty much kills 99% of all fighters you trow at him... You can't just fight a man who spended litteral eons in Hell killing creatures who merge and destroy litteral dimentions into theirs own..... all for that said dude to revive Satan (aka the biggest treat ever) and beat him in over 15 minutes..... remember this sentence: eons of pain, for a 15 minutes one sided fight..... is there anything else to say?

Death Battle really got a lot wrong about this fight. The worst part is the info they use in the analysis for Doomguy is basically 80% percent wrong to the point i wonder if they just made most of it up. For example Doomguys original armor has no name, the mega armor is a power up, his armor can tank far more than just plasma like point blank shotgun blast, rockets, even lava making his armors durability pretty insane. Back in the day the lack of accurate information made me so mad i did an entire school project on all the wrong information they had in this video, i ended up getting a B surprisingly. The fight itself is not good either. Doomguy walking slowly, switching weapons like a madman, him not constantly dodging. OG Doomguy is really underestimated by alot of people, Halo fans especially, and thats coming from someone who is a major fan of both series. OG Doomguy has alot of skills that could easily put chief in the ground but i digress. To be fair this was the early days of death battle and they have gotten better. But this fight will always leave a horrible taste in my mouth.

I had a large portion of the presentation dedicated to the death battle as to show the importance of getting information right. This episode of death battle to me was a sacrificial lamb. Halo has a large venomous fan base that would not be happy to see masterchief lose. As a result, they used the original doom guy and not the current doom guy. They purposely neutered doom guy so master chief could stand a chance. This way they make one player base happy and get plenty of up votes while doom purists know this was a rigged fight from minute one.

How could not pick the MASTER CHIEF, he is unstoppable. I would kick his ass now. But in all seriousness this fight is extremely out dated. Doom guy is just a regular human but when he becomes Doom Slayer he becomes more powerful than Satan himself. Going from a mere human to a God. He would decimate Chief.

Doom Guy is the Descendant of a much better written character, BJ Blazkowicz from the Wolfenstein games. Who I am surprised they haven't used yet.

Never seen this one, but lol wut? I've only ever played the first Doom game, but were things really that bad for him back then in the power scale? Chief is a baby next to Doom Guy. Samus is a more fair, and interesting matchup, but I don't think even she would fare well against modern Doom Guy.

This is back when he was called Doom Guy, where he was just a normal super soldier. Nowadays, (post-2016) he’s called the Doom Slayer, where he kills planet-sized titans with his bare hands. So yeah, he’s had a major boost in power scaling lately.
