DEATH BATTLE Season 10 Is The Best Season

Is this a bold claim? I doubt it. Now that Season 10 is over, we can finally reflect on it as a whole....and holy crap was it something. With so much consistent, insane production quality fight after fight, this season has cemented itself as my favorite to date, even more so than Seasons 8 and 9 when they finished up. Not only that, a couple of my dreams came true in 2023, which was so great to see. Maybe you disagree, but I thought this was an amazing year, so keep watching to hear all of my review on all of the matchups, analyses, animations, and pretty much everything!
If you're disappointed that I didn't rank these episodes or make a full tier list or anything, I apologize. That was plan for quite a while but it eventually became to clear to me that I wanted to make my end of the year video something different, something more flexible than a simple ranking. The actual reviews are more important to me anyway, and they're still here. Of course you can leave your own rankings down in the comments if you want, I just hope you didn't come here for an arbitrary list and nothing else, or that you can find some enjoyment out of it anyway. The death battle fandom is very interesting because usually it's the quiet majority that gets unnoticed and the loud minority that makes a fandom bad, but for death battle, it's the exact opposite, the loud majority (which is usually the youtube commenters and debunk video makers) is usually the bad side, but the hardcore and dedicated quiet minority is actually great.

You know, I feel basically the same way towards Rick vs The Doctor as you feel towards Stitch vs Rocket,minus the personal connection you have to the characters. Even then, this episode convinced me that I need to check both of these series out at some point, so I may end up loving that episode even more later down the line. Edit: I recently watched both shows and I quite like Rick and Morty, Doctor Who is one of my favorite shows of all time, and checking them both out has indeed made me love the episode even more.

How you feel about Stitch vs Rocket is how I felt about Cole vs Alex. I’m happy we both got something we both desperately wanted for years, and I say this as someone who’s become a bit jaded with Death Battle over the years. This season really reignited a love for this show that was fading. Hopefully season 11 can keep the pace up, but even if it doesn’t, we can always fondly look back to season 10 as perhaps the best Death Battle season we’ve ever had!

The Rappter isn’t lying; this was the *PEAK* season in Death Battle history! I every episode had so much love and passion put into it, and it shows. It outclassed Season 8 for me personally, and that’s just me. And as annoying as it was having two comic matchups nearly back-to-back, it’s grown on me knowing how fantastic they were (well _one_ of them, anyway). Regardless, I’d give this season the highest 13/10 I’ve ever ranked it. Hope the next season will kick ass on the same level as this one did, maybe even more!

Ngl I've been listening to all the tracks this season but mainly "Super" over the past couple of weeks since it came out. I love the positivity and the energy and deep meaning throughout and it feels so empowering. I absolutely love it and the fact that most of the soundtracks this season was vocals (10/16) makes them more listenable in a sense.

I second this notion. The quality of the animation and analysis has been stellar. Great choice of matchups, phenomenal animation and voice work, the amazing music, & amazing narrative (especially in the best episodes). Even the weakest episodes were 7 & 8/10s compared to prior seasons and had their own stand out scenes. Also their reasoning for the results has improved so much compared to prior seasons (especially in episodes such as Gojo vs Makima and Goku vs Superman) and even they even give better explanations for episodes I disagree with (Phoenix vs Raven & Obito vs Darth Vader (still loved the episodes regardless)). This season reminded me why I love Death Battle so much (even disregarding times where I’m annoyed about the results). Though, I say all of this before they outdo it with next season. Especially since they basically confirmed Giorno vs Joker with the teaser (I’m still not ready for how heated the debate will get).

I want to add something that I think is getting glanced over (no offense to y’all). I agree with a lot of your stances, but I think there’s something more. Tbh this season is also a legit celebration of how far the show has come. That joy is something that oozes out into the animations, and that’s further suggested by several of the additional easter eggs you can find in many episodes (especially the later half like Billcord, Doc Sanchez, and Gokuman 3). The fact they are able to put episodes so well together and add all these little nods to the community is astounding. In addition, (as stated) they also wanted to show how far they have come. I think a lot of this is evident in Gokuman 3 because you kinda get flashbacks at the ending. Once that episode ended, I knew this was the best season. The theme of this season was “passion projects” and it definitely lived up to that. I can only hope Season 11 is just as good.

Guts vs demtri is my new favorite death battle. Repsented the characters so well, that ending is the best we have had in any death battle, and we finally got a fire emblem fight. If u never played a fire emblem game you need to play 3 houses. I love the fire emblem games

This is 100% the best season of the show, only 1 episode gets below a 8/10 for me (pheonix vs raven wasnt bad but i still have it as a 7/10) and everything about the episodes are amazing. So many of the tracks have become some of my top 10 favorites of the show (fireborn, gods hand, and final formers) and i got my 2 most wanted episodes (Gojo vs Makima and Galactus vs Unicron)

I swear, I tried doing my own ranking list for the first time as this season was airing (around when BillCord came out). At first, ranking the first half was incredibly easy with one or two episodes that flipped places. But around when Rick vs. The Doctor came out, I was struggling so much to justify so many of my placements just due to how many different variations of bangers we were getting (Stitch vs Rocket used to be #1 until BillCord happened. After that it slowly settled its way into #7 or 8 due to the sheer quantity of awesome episodes in the back half of the season. I have betrayed my beautiful blue boy and I feel awful 😅)

Aside from three episodes I found meh. Alex vs Cole, Vader vs Obito, and Raven vs Phoenix....this was a great season. None that were even 'bad' just meh. But I gotta say Scooby vs Courage is my favorite episode they have ever done so far. Honestly, I agree with a lot of the points you made, and your overall opinion of this season as a whole. Around the time Scooby VS Courage came out, I was starting to struggle on my placements for each episode if I were to do a ranking. I still intend to do one later, but a ranking on this season, for me at least will be on constant change and will probably never be concreate. When I was going into this season, a couple days before Ant-Man VS Atom came out, I was a little worried this season would sort of flop on it's face compared to Season 9 & 8, which, while they both had episodes people weren't fond of, were pretty universally loved to certain extents, and I was a bit worried it wouldn't live up to the hype of the season prior with stuff like Omni-Man VS Homelander, Trunks VS Silver and Hercules VS Sun Wukong for example. But this season didn't just blow my expectations out of the water. They completely sent my expectations out of orbit. This season, I can say with 100% certainty, is my all time favorite of Death Battle, dethroning Season 9 as my favorite, which I thought would be very hard to do. Not only did pretty much every single episode hit the mark, even the ones I don't like as much as others, but this season had 11 my most wanted fights, a lot of which are back to back. Ant-Man VS Atom, Chosen Undead VS Dragonborn, Stitch VS Rocket, Vader VS Obito, Bill VS Discord, Cole VS Alex, Frieza VS Megatron, Gojo VS Makima, Scooby VS Courage, Rick VS The Doctor and Galactus VS Unicron. 11! And I enjoyed every one of them. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think Rick VS The Doctor was one of the ones I enjoyed the most this season. Like you said, it somehow managed to feel like a collab between Rick & Morty and Doctor Who and has even inspired me to check out Doctor Who sometime. This season probably has a decent chunk of it's episodes in my top 20 favorite episodes of all time, several of which I can consider in my top 10. I'm also happy you got like, your most wanted fight ever. One of the things I always do when considering matchups, I think: "Even if I personally am not the biggest fan of this fight, there is probably someone out there who wants it a lot" which is why I try to give every matchup a chance, even ones I'm not too fond of, and I love seeing people get excited for their favorite fights seeing the light of day on this show, and your reaction to Stitch VS Rocket perfectly showcases that idea. I'm thinking of trying to make a YT vid while I'm on Winter Break and just kinda... Talking about this season, or my top 30/40 most wanted, or a season 11 prediction. I don't expect to get too many views, but it just sounds fun to get ideas out there and see people's reactions and feedback. If I ever do make a video about my most wanted, I bet you won't be able to guess what my number 1 pick is. Welp. That's enough from me. Absolute same, Rappter! If I had to pick a least favorite for this season I guess it would be Rick vs. The Doctor, but everything was kicking. Admittedly before the episode, I actually didn't like Superman or Goku very much, but the way DB handled their analysis made me like them and care for the characters more than what I did. And God's Hand is peak! My favorite track of the season and possibly ever! To date, I've listened to it over 700 times already. All-Consuming is a close second with how grandiose but dreadfully empty the tone of that one is.

The fire emblem scaling for speed was pretty wonky when useing seige tomes like bolting due to thunder magic having low hit which implys its realy hard to hit a guy from far away with something as unruly as lighting especialy when light spells like abracis and aura exist with higher base accuracy in general and can give the argument that he has ftl reaction speeds

This was definitely the best season DEATH BATTLE! has ever had, no questions asked. There wasn’t a single episode that disappointed me, even though MM VS SS was my least favourite by far. If I had to name a Top 3, I think it’d be Rick VS Doctor Who at 3, Bill VS Discord at 2, and Guts VS Dimitri at 1. Seriously, I’ve wanted Fire Emblem in this show for a long time, and this is the episode I’ve watched the most. Also Deciphering Discord is the best DEATH BATTLE! track ever made, and you cannot convince me otherwise. Thanks for being as big a fan of the show as I am, Rappter, and I can’t wait for Season 11! Another thing is that Deathbattle only had a couple Sprite fights. All 3 Marvel vs DC fights, Killua vs Misaka, Makima vs Gojo, and Stitch vs Rocket (Discord vs Bill doesn’t count given all the other mediums used). Everything else was either hand drawn or 3D, which is insane to think about as that is all expensive as hell. We even got CONSECUTIVE 3D fights of similarly high quality. In terms of animation and music it’s the best season, and terms of scaling is pretty good, especially the first and final 2.

My girlfriend and I were very nervous for Scooby vs Courage since they are our favorite dogs in fiction (mine's courage and hers is Scooby) and we also thought the match up was... kinda dumb, so we decided to watch the episode together and the absolute hype for the climax and relief for the ending we both had when it was shown that it was a draw cannot be replicated. That will forever be my favorite death battle because it represents something special for both me and her.

I have no problems for Marvel vs DC matchups because they're known to be the most favorite matchups in Death Battle history, it doesn't bother me from it but I can understand why people want to see some other matchups besides between Marvel and DC the whole time, but unlike few people like you I'm not really big on anime stuff like anime vs anime because I'm not really into anime in general. But I am always curious on how to fight goes between comics, cartoon, video game against anime and of course Goku vs Superman 3 was also one of my most favorite matchups and death battle history

My main problem with this season soundtrack is the vocals. Sometimes the background music instrumentals is too loud to the point where it drowns out the singer and makes it hard to listen to.

From my understanding and what I agree with it seems a lot of ppl are highly think is that Bill v Discord, Scooby v Courage, and Goku v Superman are the creme of the crop. For me it is very hard to decide a #1 between those three. I can easily see why people want Wile E. Coyote v Tom Cat for the Champions poll cause DB does a fantastic job on cartoon fights. The craziness is just too good like it was for Bill v Discord and Scooby v Courage. Reason Goku v Superman is there is like u said how in-depth the analysis was and honestly did the episode justice compared to the first 2 (especially the second one as they even mentioned it was basically a spite fight).

Honestly season 10 is definitely top 5 seasons for me -guts vs dimitri was one of my most wanted mus(ya kinda obvious with my pfp) -mus like Bill vs Discord and Scooby vs Courage ended up being better than I expected. And I wasn't even into the billcord mu to begin with. Scooby and Courage was floating in my head but I wasn't chomping at the bit -rick vs doctor got better for me on rewatchs and looking at reactions. A bunch of small in character details that makes rewatchs satisfying -a bitch like makima getting owned is satisfying. Even if I wasn't remotely invested in either series -frieza vs Megatron is really good for the animation and soundtrack. -only one fight I felt disappointed with(Vader vs Obito) because I was so salty with the outcome I purposely didn't watch it till later in the season. And even when I went back to watch it. I ultimately did enjoy it despite my grievances with how obito got the win in the animation. Like I get that genjustu is his strongest win con but im not buying that he can set up infinite tsukuyomi within a few minutes. While Vader is focused on him. Even when DB implied that genjustu still takes time to break out of. -Overall a good balance of fighting and incorporated story and in character bits. Silver surfer and MM having thier exchange of being aware of fourth wall. Scooby and Courage working in a story reason to fight without an awkward start. The ending of billcord. And so on -I was groaning with goku vs supes 3. But I went out feeling like it is the proper follow up to the first fight. Effectively replacing goku vs supes 2. I went out of season 10 very happy. And I hope everyone has a happy holiday.

Honestly, im shocked how good this season was No "dream matches" for me in the traditional sense except for 2 being the finale & Cole v Mercer but a fair few dream combatants. DragonBorn, my boy Stitch, Bill and maybe 1 or 2 im forgetting. Hell, the only one I wasn't big on was Killua vs Mikasa. But even that I give a decent 7/10. Every other episode I've revisited at least 3 times, some FAR more than that. My favorite moment is how I am NOT a fan of Doctor Who or Rick & Morty whatsoever and probably never will be. And yet that episode is easily a favorite for me which is a VERY hard thing to pull knowing Stitch v Rocket, DB v CU, and of course Galactus vs Unicron all exist!!! Amazingly great season overall. Season 11 has some big shoes to fill but I think it'll be good still ♡

The season's so good that the debate quickly went from "who would win a fight" to "which of these episodes is actually the best or worst of the season". Honestly the only episodes I have an issue with is Frieza vs Megatron for being very obviously wrong when it came to Megatron's power level which as a result brought the episode down a peg, Killua vs Misaka for being.... certainly an anime fight (though it also has the best song of the season so), and cole vs alex which, I don't know, just doesn't do anything for me, and honestly I don't really think any of them were bad, just average. My favorite example of this season being too good was that I initially didn't like Goku vs Superman 3 and Galactus vs Unicron as much as I should because I actually got burned out....... ON GOOD DEATH BATTLE EPISODES. Not burned out on the show itself, burned out on how good it was. I didn't even think that was possible. I also think it's really funny that my favorite and least favorite episodes of the season were the two herald episodes.

This season is a weird one, because I didnt get any real most wanted matchups, the closest was Scooby Vs Courage. And yet, this is alao my favorite season. Not a bad episode, and i got into a lot of new franchises because of this season like Gravity Falls and Chainsaw Man. Both Goku Vs Superman and Scooby Vs Courage are my top 2 episodes of all time, which is insane too me

My top 4 have to be Goku vs Superman Alex vs Cole Guts vs Dimitri Chosen undead vs Dragonborn (I am in no way biased because the guy I wanted to win won) but these fights were so close to me because of the franchises they represented. Goku vs Superman especially the ending made me get a little emotional. Like you said I have some small grievances like the whole Darth Vader thing, the Marvel vs DC matchups not being the best, the comedy in Alex vs Cole probably didn’t come from a bad place but had a bad taste to it, and Galactus Vs Unicron having the problem of one character literally has a win button with no faults to it so the trying to think of a winner was very bland. But still best season by far!

One favorite other than Goku vs. Superman, which surprised me, Galactus vs. Unicron, is Guts vs. Dimitri played some fire emblem games, not Three Houses love Berserk, and the end can't ask for a better death or more respectable death in that fight

I 100% agree with you in how Season 10 had no single bad episode. Some were boring or questionable on the outcome, but the animation and production made each one stand out. And my God the second half went ballin after Bill vs Discord. Music went all out as well, Final Formers was Masterpiece tier of rock. I also agree on nitpicking on the animations yet they were still fun to watch and glad they happened. Overall, awesome episode. And can't wait to see your reactions next year. My only question: What's your favorite episode of the season if you had to pick one? For me: Had to be Bill Vs Discord, from start to finish it was pure fun.

Honestly, when the season's low point is Raven vs. Phoenix, you know the DB staff did something right this year. Admittedly, I was not looking forward to the Champion Poll winners, mainly due to not being invested in inFamous or Prototype and hating Triangle Satan more than almost any other fictional character, but the Colex fight itself was pretty cool, and Discord managed to take advantage of not conforming to the rules of Death Battle, allowing him to win in the narrative instead of the match. (However, I do have a major gripe with that episode: what DB classifies as viable material. Ryuko wasn't allowed to even touch Kill la Kill IF material despite Shadow's feats in Sonic Next Gen matching everything from that game, which would have made his victory feel earned instead of given as a freebie, yet Bill was allowed to use a disjointed "Ask Me Anything" as putting his narrative warping on par with Discord when it had no reason to be a valid connection to Gravity Falls canon.) The other two Marvel vs. DC fights were a step above the aforementioned Raven vs. Phoenix. I don't know how I feel about Ant Man vs. Atom as a premiere, but it's on the better side of Marvel vs. DC fights, and Martian Manhunter vs. Silver Surfer really played with expectations. Darth Vader vs. Obito & Frieza vs. Megatron were serviceable, but of the two, I had more investment in the latter mainly since it showed the nuances of Megatron so well. As much as some matchups didn't sit right at first, the episodes made up for them in some ways. Even though I hate Chainsaw Man as much as Black Clover, learning about Hunter X Hunter, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Railgun Index was pretty interesting, and I finally understand the whole "Domain Expansion" meme thanks to Gojo vs. Makima. Also, I thought I was going to hate Rick Sanchez vs. The Doctor due to my hatred of Rick & Morty, but I was pleasantly surprised and grateful to be proven incorrect. The analysis was in-depth, the animation was top notch, and the result was cathartic to say the least. Of course, Stitch vs. Rocket hits differently for me as well, but only because of my friend's investment into it. It was just fun seeing how happy this matchup made him, as it became his personal favourite of Season 10. It was great to see cinematic fights come back in full force after Yoda vs. Mickey experimented with it and Sauron vs. Lich King took it above and beyond. Chosen Undead vs. Dovahkiin felt and sounded like it could be a scene from a high fantasy epic thanks to the Death Battle Fan Choir, Guts vs. Dimitri ramped up how intense fights could get at their full potential, and the biggest thing holding back Scooby vs. Courage from being mistaken as a part of Straight Outta Nowhere is that it's set on a 3D background (that's how amazing the animation is). Vegito vs. Gogeta didn't feel like a proper finale back in Season 9, so having two consecutive finale-worthy episodes close off Season 10 more than made up for it. Goku vs. Superman: Definitive Edition really took what worked from the original and built upon it to make it even better to the point where it would have made a near-perfect finale in its on right. Also, Galactus vs. Unicron finally happening this year was such a treat to hear about and a spectacle to behold, essentially being what Thanos vs. Darkseid wished it could be. It doesn't break my personal Top 5 Season 10 episodes only on the reason that there were too many bangers to choose from, but it definitely breaks my personal Top 3 Death Battle finales. Least Favourite: Raven vs. Phoenix (I don't hate it, but it really should have been in Season 5 from the beginning, as it really shows how lopsided, unfair, and unwarranted Raven vs. Twilight was, not to mention all the other sprite fights alone this season were better by comparison.) Top Favourite: Goku vs. Superman: Definitive Edition (There is so much about this that really goes above and beyond. Both characters are treated with the utmost respect in the analysis and fight, many mistakes from the previous two versions were rectified, the animation proves how far the team has come since the start, and the OST is one of the best in the franchise, not to mention it rivals Yoda vs. Mickey & All Might vs. Might Guy with how wholesome it ends up being.)

I actually kind of disagree about the negative elements of the Cipher Wheel. Being deliberately vague was honestly a more fun approach than being a mystery meant to be solved, especially since it left almost everything in the air, as opposed to the character teases, where they've steadily become more obvious who their opponents are. The fans being annoying to each other about it is their own problem more than anything. Other than that though, I think you hit the nail on the head. Every single episode this season was a good watch, and the highs are indisputably amazing even compared to the past greats.
