One thing i love about ben gibbard (and you can see this in postal service videos) is he loves throwing guitars on the ground and jumping behind whatever other instrument needs to be played

Narrow Stairs was such an underrated album. Personally one of my favorites that doesn't get the love it deserves. It's home to such greats like, Cath..., No Sunlight, Talking Bird, Grapevine Fires, and I Will Possess Your Heart. Such an amazing album by an even more amazing band. Can't wait to see you guys live and can't wait for the next album!
@flints5 жыл бұрын
Agreed ... Cath is one those songs that will just hit you one day and have to listen to it right at the very moment.

Long Division is another classic with such a good bassline. The album always takes me back 08 when I first saw the band live too!
@ja34namsf095 жыл бұрын
I'd go so far as to say I don't understand why it's not considered their best album. You check them on Spotify and only "I Will Possess Your Heart" shows up in the top 10. I listen to the other 9 and feel nothing... none of their other music affects me at all, but this album is Death Cab at perfection. It's like the general public loves Death Cab in a way that's entirely different from how I love them. I appreciate a fellow Narrow Stair lover for sure...

I used to listen to this version of the Bixby Canyon Bridge but on another KZbin video... I had intended to write the following at the time but held off because I wanted to make sure I would follow through with it... I did... the poem I wrote about the experience afterward still bleeds through my vision and ears when I hear this song... without much further dramatic adieu: "This was, for me, the last DCFC song I really got into. Sadly, I never saw them perform this song and I regret that. I moved on from them after that, going about my life. I met my wife, fell in love, married her, and ultimately she divorced me. It's coming up on Thanksgiving 2017 and I'm going to visit my parents-in-law in Sacramento, CA, and this song came to me. "Why not go to the Bixby Canyon Bridge?" I thought, then the followup thought was, "What if I throw my wedding band from the Bixby Canyon bridge while jamming to this version of the song?" It's only a few hours from there. The song speaks so completely to where I am at this stage of my life. Wanting to stay in the past of what is gone (or what I wanted) and being afraid to go forward into the unknown, seeing the world so asleep, and having all these expectations. I know the experience will be anticlimactic to what I want it to be in my mind. [Note: it wasn't: there were others there, milling about, doing the exact same thing I was doing. I watched the ring sing through the air and disappear into the morning surf...] I'll stand on the bridge looking at my left ring finger and debating if I should throw the ring that I just so recently had engraved on the inside with, "Forever yours, Suzanne." Tragic? Dramatic? Pathetic? All of them and none of them at the same time. Life is messy and nothing like I dreamed it to be."
@peacelove68173 жыл бұрын
Wow, I read this and instantly regretted the fact that I didn’t make the pilgrimage to do the same thing. I’m sorry for the love loss you experienced in your life. I’ve been there as well. Our reality almost never meets those expectations in our mind. I had so many visions of how my life would play out. It has felt like people I meet are asleep. 2020 has been a weird ride with a mixed bag of people being asleep and suddenly self aware. I noticed you posted this several years ago. I hope you found your forever. I can say life has led me on a much better road than my love loss years ago. It’s not always what I want it to be but it is what I need. That sense of knowing it’s where I need to be makes me feel content. I’m a hopeless romantic with the yearning for a Shakespearean love minus the tragedy which has been a regrettable part of my story.
@christophercobb80083 жыл бұрын
@@peacelove6817 Very thought provoking response to what I had assumed would just be another file in my desperate attempt to distance myself from my past affection for this band but I always make my way back to DCFC and this song in particular. I, like you. am a hopeless romantic and unfortunately it seems that the former seems to trump the latter of such a title. But, for me the poetry that flows from such dire straits are often times worth the price of admission. To be caught up in the tempest, the emotions, the pure bliss of words fumbling, tumbling down arm, into bumbling fingers and spat upon the page in an orgy of expectation born of something far more desirous that can hardly be uttered. Yes, 2020 really did wake a lot of people up but in many ways it's already over the tipping point; the hope is that this self awareness pays off, shakes off the malaise and apathy and gets people thinking and questioning. I guess we'll see...
