This is the only rendition that hits those "Alarm" notes perfectly. The Bo-WaWoooWaWooWaWooWaah. Everyone else forgets that the music was used to convey the internal alarms sounding off on Sonic's invasion of the Death Egg! All other iterations diffuse that noise. Here's hoping that Sonic 3 has the actual Death Egg. Although I did love Sonic 2's giant robot.

Hmmmm, when I first listened to this I thought the rhythm's bass was up wayyyy too high, but the more I listen to it the more I like it. Kinda feels like it's combining both a really grungey military sound like something you'd hear in one of Command & Conquer's enemy-faction themes, with a really sort of desolate 'vacuum of space' sound. Suits both Robotnik's robot army approach, and the 'empty space station' sort of vibe that the Genesis games pretty much always had as their final level.
