@ You’d think. But remember what happened when they removed models recently sold? People threw a massive fit. Tons of videos saying warhammer was being destroyed and they all just so happened to only play the models being removed and that was all they ever bought. The outrage and anger (probably some real and some most certainly manufactured) lasted a bit. So now they are doing it the other way. Instead of just taking the kits away with their rules they’ll take the kits away sooner so people can’t be like “but this kit is my entire collection” and then by the time they’re phased out people have hopefully moved on.

The team goes from competitive soon though. Sure, that's not everyone. But the reason they're even proposing classified/legends, is that they clearly need the production space freed up. So the sprue was going regardless, and I think the way they've done it works the best. There will of course be casual gamers who play against Krieg who can't buy the team, but its in a casual environment, so its not really that big of an issue.

​@@Solitary_Scribe55 People seem to forget that outside of tournaments you can play how you want with tabletop stuff, or proxy whatever you like - it's not an online game where they can turn a server off or whatever. The only limitation is finding like-minded opponents to play with. The only place they can restrict what you play with is GW official tournaments, but if that isn't of interest then nothing matters. I don't think they necessarily want to 'do shit' about it any more than, say, Nintendo cares if you're playing on your old NES instead of buying new games. They just try to make the new stuff seem more appealing, like any company that doesn't sell perishable items. But the only leverage they have in that regard is 'play in GW tournaments' and if you don't care about that then you can just do whatever you want. It's essentially a business model based on FOMO, which is the same for any miniatures company, because you never actually need any minis to play any game, you could just play with bases or random proxied object and the gameplay is identical. The only genuine reason to buy the minis is if you think they look cool.

I don’t think they’re getting rid of Death Korps Kill Team, they’re just releasing a cheaper box set for 40k Krieg so people won’t have bits they won’t use and dozens of extra tokens that will be useless if you don’t play Kill Team. I may be mistaken but it doesn’t say anywhere that the Kill Team Krieg will be discontinued especially after they made a new box for them and updated rules.

It's not so much about the rules. It's about the loss of the kit itself. Had we simply lost the tokens but could still buy the full kit as a 40k box, that would be fine imo.

Planned obsolescence on this timescale probably not an issue for hardcore tournament folks or super fast painters, but for people who hobby slowly because of other life commitments, it’s a major motivation killer. I’ve lost interest in playing Killteam, Underworlds, AOS and 40k as a result.

Which is why I don't care about official GW events, and all my KT24 fractions are old OOP Citadel models that are proxies. My "Death Korps" (still Vet Guard to me...) are Colonel Schaeffer's Last Chancers (plus some other OOP metals) with the proper Death Korps labels on their bases.

I'm finding the blatant planned obsolescence a major factor in me not getting into third edition and am actually going back to playing 40k. At least there a squad of main line infantry will be playable for the foreseeable future and not legal for 3 years then in a strange limbo of legal but not for 3 more.

The 40k box have a medic, a Vox operator and Sniper, melta, plasma , grenade launcher, plasma pistols...You wont have some things like the zealot, demoman, and so, but you can convert them with 3D, or make your opponent know one of the troopers is a special unit.,

Indeed. Is GHD really as shocked as was portrayed? In the case of the Vet Guard... they need to have a box of 10 models that are cheap-ish since guard players have to buy so many. I reckon they'll keep selling the KT box as well, perhaps until c. autumn 2025. Subjectively, I'd prefer that Kommandos and Corsairs weren't getting cycled out, but objectively I recognise the economic and game design pressures that have caused it. (The 3-year not-classified grace period is the silver lining)

They will come back. I have models I painted 20 years ago that are still playable. They just go in and out of play. Some years they can be played in some GW game. Some years they can't. It's fine. Rotation is a good way to keep the game balanced and fresh. Get another team while they are gone.

Death Korps of Kasrkin; when I finally got to building the Octarius Vet Guard squad, 2e meta already leaned towards shooting at around the same time the Shadowvaults box set proved difficult to buy, so I decided with some minor conversion work I could mirror the new Imperium elite operatives with Kriegers. Two rulesets - one kill team. Kasrkin rules might keep my models **classified** in 3e a while longer, but I'm not a tournament player, so does it really matter? 40K Krieg appears popular atm, but enough to warrant repurposing the KT upgrade sprue for a future release - who knows? If you want to build interesting and varied Krieg armies with GW plastic, perhaps now's the time to start stock-piling.

Well, so far it seems that these boxes will exist at the same time for a while. I do hope they will give us a warning before retiring the kill team version though... I haven't checked it properly yet, but you say you're lacking options to build the team with the Cadian upgrade sprue, but if you were to combine it with that and the broodbrothers team? I think that should have at least most options covered. Expensive as hell tho.

Hey! Which article are you refering too? I just saw this video and wondered what the context was. I know they've mentioned that all the kill teams are being retired eventually, so while I'm sure the kill team box is still around for now, this is bringing up a concern about when they do finally stop making that. We've seen that the 40K team has their box for them out now, which does not use this sprue, as such its a bit concerning about what may happen to those parts.

I'm worried that afterwards we might end up with these units like Dkok who just seem to, Lose parts. Consider this list also hits the eldar Corsairs, and just entirely deletes the Chaos Legionary upgrade parts. IF they decide to handle this like they have currently for Dkok

It says you can make a Vox Operator and a medic. A couple of these other missing options are in the Combat Engineers box, the Sapper and the Bruiser. As for the others - a Zealot can be anyone really, he doesn't really need to be holding a book, you can designate him with a paint job if you want. The main thing that's missing as far as I can tell is a Krieg appropriate powerfist, so that might need a kit bash. In fact it's cheaper to build a Krieg team using the infantry + engineers route vs two kill team boxes, - only £59.50 vs £85 for two KT boxes. I don't think you can make every possible option this way as you only get 15 minis, but you can make most and it's very fieldable (unlike 1 KT box).

So far each edition of Killteam and 40K has been another round of "what can I still play with?" 10th edition 40K has been especially frustrating for me with each new codex that releases for an army I already have exiles many of my painted minis to "Legends" status. My main gripe about the current Killteam edition is I am uninspired by any of the new kill teams and the clock is ticking on the teams I like. I like the models from Brutal and Cunning. They will end up in my Guard and Ork armies. The Tempestus Aquilons will also find a home in my Guard. So far the new kill teams have been meh for me as kill teams. My Loyalist Astartes can be refreshed as an Angels of Death kill team. The clock is ticking for my Legionaries even if I proxy them as a Nemesis Claw. Sigh.

@@whatTheFup Small suggestion, but I'd skip on purchasing the cards and just print the cards from the PDFs on warhammer community. They are designed really well for converting into cards. I've spent maybe 60-100$ on self sealing lamentation pouches and have my 10 teams rules in card form. I like to print them on resume paper so it adds a bit more structure to it, but normal printing paper works great as well. If any rules updates happen I just add it to the front of the card with a sharpie if there is space, or to the back of the card. Happy hunting!

Personally, I feel this is an over reaction, I haven't seen anything about the kill team box going away, and the wording in the paragraph was more saying this unit is not got all the bit you need for kill team in it. You should still be able to buy the kill team box, to get the unit and the upgrades needed for kill team, like pathfinders, brood brothers, hand of the archon and nemesis claw (maybe a few others) but I do agree with the stuff being 'legends' suck and hope it don't happen as I would like to play this team but they aren't happening soon for me, with not ability to do them sooner

Not exactly. GW said their official stance is each team will be tournament legal for 3 years from release. All these teams from season 1 of KT21 (Kommandoes, Vet Guard, Blooded, etc...) will be tournament legal for the first year of KT24 and then rotate out. You can still play them with friends but they wont update their rules or take them into consideration for balance.​@nestadious

There's a new kit, in 40k livery, without said upgrade sprue hence the reduction in price. Iirc my flgs has an order of them coming in or due at least on there website. I ASSUME they'll be on sale concurrently until Vet guard leave classified it probably wouldn't make sense to run them concurrently for the next 4 years.

@@joekws Got it, cannot really understnad GW, things have gotten to a level where there seems to be something fishy in every change. I got the old one, but wanted an additional for the troopers plus the medic as i did make one.

@@KonradWaltrowski-z6j If you already have one box of Krieg then you should have the options you need still on the sprue that you can put on the infantry kit. It'll work out a bit cheaper for you too.

It is such a bad business move imo, especially looking at trends in other games that are doing exceptionally well like MTG Edh and D&Ds latest edition purposefully being backwards compatible with the previous edition and they are both growing games and edh is the most popular way to play and has a thriving competitive scene. Can't see the logic of legends.

@@seankoch1601 We knew the KT box was going away, that was well communicated. What we didn't know was that we were losing the full KT sprue and so the models could no longer be bought from 40k and used in KT.

Okay, but theoretically, you already own the Death Korps models. So why would you need to buy them? The problem GW was trying to avoid was precisely the situation where someone already has the models and wants to keep playing them. If GW continued to sell the Kill Team version of the Krieg models then you’d have people complaining that they got tricked into buying a Kill Team that wasn’t supported. I’d much rather have 18 well balanced factions that occasionally rotate out than a big mess of imbalanced teams (like we had at release of KT24).

Not to be cynical but isn’t that just normal GW behaviour? I still remember Mortheim and Warhammer Fantasy. Beloved games that were just discontinued. Or for how many years there weren’t any rules to play the Adeptus Sororitas models I bought. Personally I never trust GW products to stick around.

It's worked out at an absurd price for that tiny sprue. But GW probably has to think about the fact that they have to price Krieg for 40k at a price where someone might reasonably by however many boxes you need for 40k. What's that? Like Six Boxes or something?

If you wanted to run the max possible for some reason, 12 boxes. If for some oddly specific reason you wanted half your army to be Death Korps Infantry.

Think of it the other way mate, if they didn't make a 40K box, those players would be paying $110 Au per box instead of $86 Au a box, and each time, they would get a card and a heap of tokens they would never be using. Now, Guard being a hoard army, that's a lot of money you'd be pissing away! I'm not really seeing how Kill Team players would be hard done by having to pay an extra say $45 AU (cos' GeeDubb Australia pricing) for an extra sprue for the 10 and probably only 10 mini's they'll need for their game. Short version... I don't agree!

That is not the point. We are not talking about 40k the game but kill team which is small skirmish games of 6 or more models compared to the dozens more needed for 40K. The idea that the original KT21 teams are just not going to be playable or as of this not even purchasable to play said game is just ridiculous and underhanded by GW.

Well, if the rules and balance of the teams are maintained for that 6 years I dont see it being a huge issue, and kind of makes the classified lists make more sense. For GW tournaments, they dont want teams in the tournament that players cant buy, but for smaller tournaments/casual play they will still be valid. On top of that, we have to consider shelf/storage space as well. There is 36 teams, which containing space for 36 different boxes(along with the rest of warhammer franchise) would end up taking a bunch of space. It would be nice if the legends teams would get a made to order option or something like that(of course there is always 3d printing as well). And then of course on top of all that, when all is said and done the game needs to make money because capitalism. The new hotness will always sell more then an older kit that more then likely the player base already owns if they wanted it. It sucks, but it is what it is. What I'm really curious to see, and what I'm more concerned about is IF they keep the legends team rules updated/balanced, or if they just get small tweaks here and there but dont really hold up to newer teams. Legends teams are going to be the new compendium teams 😂😭

@@nestadious Yes, I might have focused too much on the notion of rules going away. I don't really care about that or I accept that's ultimately good for the balance of the game as a competitive vessel which GW wants KT to be. This video is the realisation that the KT kit won't simply be moved out of KT branding and become a 40k kit, but we lose the models that made them a KT, which GW had not communicated before.

I got into kill team a few weeks ago, and had custodes, demons, and space marines so i just follow kill team 21 rules where everything seems to be supported

Tbh the second edition compendium Kill Teams are basically compatible with KT24 or are trivial to convert if you want to use them with 3rd edition rules. The KTDash app has a few ready-converted ones. Obviously not 'tournament legal', but if that doesn't bother you then you could still use them. The statlines and keywords are all the same, just some of them do slightly different things, so it might affect the balance a litle bit - but the compendium was never balanced anyway.

I don't think it's the end of the world and I suppose this is why none classified teams can't be played at GW events because they will be OOP. That said it's not disimilar to infinity by corvus beilli because we will have extensive support after the product goes OOP. Of course it's not ideal and I hope I'm not shilling for GW here but it certainly feels better than 40k or aos where "legends" is essentially removed from play. But again that's partly on the community and the independence of the game much akin to blood bowl, mordheim and mesbg. Commercially i think it makes sense to keep the boxed range tight, 8-6 teams a season with 3 seasons in production. I can understand why they've done it. Knowing ahead of time the lifespan on products would nice in GWs other gamea tbh. Sorry for the stream of consciousness. lol

I don’t know, dude, this feels a little like “The sky is falling”. As a DKoK player (not in KT) I’m glad I’m not paying $70 for a box of Guardsmen. If they keep the boxes separate, great. They could eventually sell the sprues separately.

They'll be going to legends, so I don't expect them to keep making them. And making stuff legends makes room for new teams. Like Salamanders or something else. I'm totally ok with this. By the way, I can't get the Gellerpox anywhere, so they've already stopped making old teams.

I mean, they literally said in the "Managing the Range of Kill Teams in the New Edition" that the point of the classification system was to manage stock. i.e. I understood it really to mean they dont want to produce/store/sell a massive range of products... so the older ones will stop being made; but they give us a number of years to play them afterwards. So, I think I am surprised that you're surprised?

I think we're more suprised that we're losing the Plastic involved, I know personally I assumed when the kit was reboxed for 40K it would keep the "upgrade sprue" as variety parts
