As someone who has worked around military vehicles for a large part of their career, I guarantee you they’re dirty like that 99% of their time in the field. Vehicles in places like Hawaii with tons of red dirty and clay have stains very similar to what you achieved with the pigments during field exercises

This came out AWESOME! ❤ A recovery I did two years ago was finally painting an Eldar Vampire Raider my wife gave me for Christmas 18 years prior. I've always been intimidated by it, not knowing if I can paint it to a standard it deserves and how to furnish it with a flying stand. It took me two decades to get that sorted out. Now, I dedicated the painted model to my beautiful wife and am incredibly happy with it.

I scratch built a Leviathan with the VDR from way back. The base chassis is TWO Baneblade track sections cut to make a single track that's about double the length of a Baneblade. I even found a Warhound plasma cannon to make the main turret weapon (using a Baneblade turret, btw). My idea was to make it a Ryza command vehicle to lead a Baneblade detachment along with an armored company to back it all up.

A Stormhammer could be a good fourth one. You've got the Baneblade with the single turret, you've got the Stormblade with the large superstructure, you've got the Stormlord with the forward superstructure and open rear, and the Stormhammer could be included with the twin turrets. That way they all have a different body and are really distinct visually. Whatever you choose I hope you paint it up for the channel, it's great to see tanks getting attention!

7:21 In the HH novel where Magnus gets censured, he and Fulgrim walk between the legs of two gold plated Warlord titans belonging to the Emperor personally. When Adeptus Titanicus came out, my first legion was gold plated with red marble shoulder plates to make a Custodes legion. I was reading a King Arthur novel when assembling a large knight household for the same game and ended up making House Camelot. Led by King Arthur, my knights were all painted different colors and carried 28mm melee weapons. So much fun, I even made toothpick flags for each one to look like lances held high.

Excellent job bringing this one back to life Andy, I personally like your weathering it suits Krieg well and when the whole force is so heavily weathered it looks good. I think it depends a lot on the army and their colour scheme, my blood bowl teams I always keep pristine like they would look coming out the tunnel to play, but they are usually bright colours and too much weathering on top of that just creates visual confusion. My iron warriors have very dirty boots because in my mind it’s near the beginning of their campaign so I keep their armour pristine-ish but they are set on a mars type radioactive red dust planet so just a couple steps in that environment and the boots would be a mess, so that’s what I do it ties them into the base makes them feel more lived in rather than a little statue. But end of the day it’s personal preference right our projects our choices no one else’s opinion matters. Keep up the good work. Oh and yes definitely a shadow sword with the volcano cannon every squad needs a heavy gunner even super heavy tank squads hehe.

Baneblade is the first 40k novel I ever read, I think. Fond memories, I started it on a ferry crossing to France to see my then girlfriend. It got pretty beaten up by the time i'd finished reading it, be it on a ferry, train or bus. Happy days! Been many, many years since I've read it. It's on the shelf at home now, looks worse for wear but it was a good read. Always promised myself I'd get a Shadowsword at some point after reading it, it's still on the 'to buy' list!

I'm all for it! Clean takes just don't hit right. My recommendation for the 4th would be to Octoblade it! I myself have three; 1 standard, 1 which is modular between the three assault variants, and the last is an Octoblade set up. Our local group is actually healthy and diverse enough that I have had the privilege to run all three several times. I won't lie, I actually don't have any in box projects, I try to keep my pile of shame minimal, but I do have a large gray army I need to work on, which for the past few months I've been doing while watching your videos for the inspiration.

Not criticizing, just reminding, you forgot to paint and detail the main gun rounds. Anyway, I am a 67 Y.O. kid who has been a 40k fan since it's inception. Main focus is Imperial Guard. I currently have 8 Baneblade variants built using the old Armorcast Baneblade/Shadowsword and the 2.0 Baneblade kits. 1 Shadowsword, 1 Stormhammer converted and kitbashed from the old Armorcast Baneblades following the old EPIC scale version, 1 original Baneblade and 2 Armorcast 2.0 kits. Also have an old style Plasma gun equipped Shadowsword conversion under construction and a bridge laying and heavy recovery Baneblades in the beginning phases. The Armorcast 2.0 was short lived but a nice remake consisting both resin and metal castings with better detail. When word leaked out way back when that Armorcast was loosing its right to make Warhammer kits I hit up every hobby and game store in the greater Sacramento area buying up the Armorcast kits. I also have 2 Reaver titans, 2 Warhound titans and had some of the mega Tyrranids that they made towards the end.

A shadowsword would be a good fit for a Krieg army. From memory I think Baneblades, Shadowswords and Stormblades were the main superheavies the Krieg deployed to Vraks, with of course a bucketload of macharius tanks to make up the numbers in the superheavy regiments.

Pro Tip: Put overalls on if it gets really messy. I've got several old projects but I've actually been considering selling my old collection entirely. Those tanks are massive. I stopped playing 40K in 1998. I will be keeping an Ork freebooter captain I have. He's getting repainted. I also have a Leman Russ that needs to get repainted, so I'll be keeping that as well.
