As they learned how the game works, it gets better and less mistakes from the investigation side are made (such as how L is supposed to play extra careful and rely on his unique mechanics and abilities to support the team, rather than play as an actual investigator)

Well to be fair, a lot of people had only played among us, werewolf and other very simple deduction games like that. So when they play Death Note killer within, they will automatically play it like among us. It's their only reference at playing a game like this. People just need time to learn the game. I mean, even with among us, if you see how people played when it first came out vs how they play now, it's pretty different. I'm sure that after a month most players would know what they're doing.

There is a specific setting in this game that disables automatic stealing of ID for kira/kira followers which i think should be enabled for a game like this since if kira just steals your I.D when nearby etc then it can make it unfair for the Kira team. they should be able to choose when/when not to steal I.Ds

I also like the game, at first I was confused about what was going on after watching people play the game, but after a bit things started to make sense. I think the mechanics just tend to overwhelm people and I can't really blame them. Of course people are already used to among us so this game might appear to not be as balanced, but L and the investigators always have the option to stay away from people so they don't get RDMed off the bat. The only thing that makes that difficult is the sabotage, which L can avoid. Of course this is all my opinion, so feel free to take it as you will and I know there are people who think differently and you are totally free to like or dislike the game or agree or disagree with me.

@@mariathekat890I think it’s because it’s kind of hard to initially break that cycle of joking around about a game being bad and when your whole lobby isn’t enjoying it - it’s really rough to pivot into people liking it! I think this is just a game they need to refresh and come back to. There’s nothing wrong with disliking a game because it feels clunky for your specific group, and clearly it’s not indicative of everyone’s opinions in the community - it can be both clunky for a group that enjoys OTHER social deduction games AND a good game but it’s always harder when you’re also TRYING to make good content about it. Sometimes the content brain takes over and not everyone’s in the correct mindset to learn an entire new game on top - that’s like, the entire joy of figuring out if you like a new game or not. I do think fans of this game are being a touch sensitive about it and while I understand it’s rough having a game you enjoy be talked about negatively for 30 min, there’s still some pretty genuine moments of people slowly working it out if you reframe it that way. At the end of the day they’re streamers first and if every time you got frustrated at learning a new game was televised to thousands - I’m sure you would seem overly critical sometimes too. It’s not always a genuine feeling, lots of things can go into how a streamer keeps their mental up.

The fact that the game ends immediately if L dies is one common complaint I've seen of this game. Kira can just guess randomly until they get it right, and there is nothing stopping them from winning on the first round if the Kira team gets the ID and just luckily guesses who is L. This is both not fun for the Investigator team, but also unrealistic for the show itself. The game could implement a change like allowing players to choose a new L or just randomly picking a new investigator to be L.

I do agree it could also be an issue if there was constantly a new L so it would always be an L vs Kira situation. Plus, the odds of getting a lucky guess increases as less people are alive.

I think that's more an issue of inexperience than balance. Everyone was just giving their IDs away constantly so Kira could kill everyone freely, which gave them the chance to insta-win. If the investigators and L actively avoid letting players get their IDs and rightfully cast suspicion on players who get too close then that strategy falls apart immediately and just serves to get Kira caught.

the idea of each team having one guy that the whole game rests on makes me think of Two Rooms and a Boom, which I feel like was the ultimate of social deduction board games, since both teams got put on the same level rather than having to manage balanced asymmetry. You can choose whether you want to lie or not, and there's some fancy roles I don't think there's really a way to make online videos with it without a lot of screwing around with custom discord shit and complicated editing.

"This game is needlessly confusing". It really isn't. It's ever so slightly different from the other games in that it has an inventory and no mechanic to boot the imposter. "How did this (losing traitor event) happen?" You ran around the map instead of doing the task. "L just died immediately". Yeah because you have to play it smart and avoid people. You're not supposed to clutter up or do tasks as L, but just let other people do while you watch them. The fact that nobody is using ingame voicechat is just the cherry on the cake, it's like this is done as badly as possible.

Essentially it's an auto-counter to see if someone was close enough to steal your ID. I can understand the first 2, but your point on "L just died immediately" isn't very good. 1 person making a mistake instantly ends the game for everyone, which just isn't fun. If you don't want mess up the game for everyone as L, you just have to sit in a corner away from everyone and not do anything risky which doesn't sound fun for L either.

I think the issue is just that this isn't Among Us, and they are playing like it is. I watched the full VOD, and they were starting to understand it by the end. You have to social distance, and if someone ever breaks your 6 foot bubble, assume they are doing so maliciously. The canvasing tasks aren't just busy work to make you move around the map, they are actual bits of evidence to put together who is doing shady stuff. The Kira events force people into proximity by making them investigate the same scene, while the L events allow good guys to confirm their identities and start to trust each other. Neither event bar ever got above about 30 in any round, because they were used to Among Us play where you are trying to catch someone in the act, rather than put clues together. That said, the fact that L can die first round, or Kira can be caught fairly easily, means you kinda have to be a little sweaty playing this. The game assumes that everyone is going to be fully invested in the fiction of playing as a member of the special task force, playing mental chess to discover clues until they find one small bit of evidence that breaks the whole thing up. As Jacob said when he was signing off to his friends in the discord, they were playing slop, but having fun doing it. I am curious as Jacob mentioned they would be playing this again to see what they have learned from it, because I think it could be fun and interesting, but the game asks much more of you than Among Us does, which is definitely a turn off for some people.

The difference is that Kira dying means they were successfully voted out, meaning the Investigators likely outsmarted/outskilled Kira, or Kira outed themselves. L dying means that Kira's follower just got lucky while doing what they're supposed to do to everyone: Steal their ID. This also ends the game a lot faster than if Kira was caught, making it unfun.

I think it would be way more interesting if everyone just knew who L was, but they had special conditions that would require kira to either spend time close to them to kill them or do special tasks instead of just a quick id swipe. Like force the kira to spend time around whoever L is to get their name or waste time doing other objectives if they want to go for a win by killing L so they have a choice between killing the other investigators or killing L. Would make the game way more interesting with L having to watch who stays near them and people needing to be wary if nobody dies since it could mean they're going for an L kill.

Tbh, the game seems mostly good but a bit hard to transfer mungie skills to since the mayor isn't someone who will die and thus should just engage as much as possible, it's someone who should engage as little as possible. If they added a way to replace a dead L with a backup, maybe once per game to be fair, or it's a set role so if you kill the two correct people you win, then it would probably be a somewhat decent game to watch and play. At first I thought this game was just terrible, but after watching some videos on it, I think they could instantly make the game pretty solid by just making it so that L dying doesnt end the game instantly. Maybe add a second L if the first one dies, like in the actual series, or maybe just let the investigators keep going after L dies, just at a disadvantage because they dont have all his abilities

Is google wrong about the release date being november 5th of 2024? Played Death note game on roblox a few months ago with a similar gameplay loop, tho some features lacking like arresting, L dying resulting to instant loss, and investigating clues. They just got role checks voting a possible kira out results in a instant death like among us

Counterpoint: staying out of reach doesn't mean just standing far away and doing nothing. You're supposed to be moving around, keeping distance, making everyone think you're an investigator. You can also steer group conversations as L, and investigators realistically have no real reasom to go against where L sways the meetings since L has the most investigative ability and is always in the interest of the investigators.

You know, watching other people play, it looks like a good game, games goes on for long enough trying to narrow down to who L and Kira really is. It looks fun. Everyone is scared of each other so all of them stayed away yet close enough to atleast see each other. But when i watched this group, who is chaotic at best, it starts to show how poor some of the design choices is. You have people who instinctively writes down everyone they see until they get L, the L player isn't trying to protect themselves at all, the group doesn't really read how stuff works and just played it like most other deduction games because let's be honest, you'd think it's just another deduction game. I still think it's a good game, but watching a few games go "damn, L died too quick" without context makes you think "damn, maybe this game has a big flaw somewhere in there"

I've already seen this from Altrive's POV, so I think I've picked up enough about the game to know why exactly this is so miserable - you're playing it like Among Us and treating all players on any given side the same, even when one very much has to avoid contact with all others like the PLAGUE.

This game genuinely looks really interesting and fun. I have never even seen Death Note yet but this game is convincing me to try it. But it really needs to fix a couple of issues that make it less favorable for Kira: - Both L and Kira can technically win in one move, but L needs to wait till the investigation, whereas Kira can do so in the initial part of the game, stemming from the fact both parties simply need to get lucky and kill/arrest 1 person. - What's more, L can only arrest 1 person per meeting, and Kira can kill as many people as they and their follower can get IDs. And since there's no body report button to cut the day short (at least I haven't seen it) Kira has an entire day, usually 1-2 minutes, to kill as many people as possible

Not really it is a changeable setting but in basic matches Kira can only kill 2 people per day so you gotta be careful with who you want to get rid off and make sure their left over Journals don’t have any hard evidence in them

@@lpgaming7110 found this out by watching some other people play this game but yeah didn't know if was a setting already. Even then, it's 2 out of 8 people at most. You could technically swipe 2 IDs and have a pretty high chance of instantly winning the game
