Death Of Isla Vista Halloween

For over half a century, Halloween weekend in Isla Vista, California was one of the best street parties in the US. However, various factors have contributed to the events recent death.
I know this isn't the normal kind of video I upload to this channel, but this is a passion project of mine. I apologize for my lack of uploads, as some of you may know I've been dealing with some health problems. With that said, I do plan to start uploading regularly to this channel again soon with the kind of videos you are used to (and my vlog channel also). This is an important video to me because I grew up in Santa Barbara. I remember my first Isla Vista Halloween back in 2006. The vast majority of whatever videos are/were filmed IN Isla Vista.

whatever I appreciate your love for the holiday,I'm an Sb native myself and yeah it's a bummer to see it die but kids nowadays are getting stupider.Seeing all these 16 year olds trying to go,how easy it is to access weapons and now with trump in office having checkpoints around can put people off,I think there should be a spiritual successor to the Isla vista parties.Would be happy to help build something new

The parties have died down because UCSB has been so persistent in getting rid of its party rep. I lived in the dorms last year as a freshman and they would lock all the doors for the duration of halloweekend and if anyone was caught with non-residents in the dorm, their residence contract would be voided. Not to mention that they blocked non-residents from coming into IV along with the noise ordinance starting at 6pm. There was no point in even going out that weekend because there weren't very many people out and only a bunch of cops patrolling.

WoW! And you paid to live there in those dorms. Seems like that alone would be illegal for them to stop you from having guests. once you pay for something it yours till the end of it. How do they have more power then Apartment owners. Who could not legally do the same. Seems Crooked to me.

I was there early '80s and it was epic. EVERYONE was in costume, drunk and/or high, and having a great time. You just wandered around enjoying the spectacle.

I was at UCSB from 2003-2008, the partying was so fucking epic! Could literally walk into someone's house, shake their hand, and go to the keg to get a beer. Every year I was there the police force was more and more intense, I even remember seeing tanks and armored cars on the road by the gym area on Halloween weekend! Sux that IV doesn't party as hard as they used to :-/

It’s not the authorities. Kids are just timid these days. I went to school in SB in 2002 and 2003 before transferring to UCLA (which was like a nursing home in comparison to IV). Halloween was crazy. Only thing I didn’t enjoy was how bloody and frequent the fights got (probably cause I’m only 5’ 7”and even though I was jacked...so were many others). Luckily, I ran with a pretty big crew.

I lived in Santa Barbara from 1985 to 2005 and went to SBCC and UCSB.. lived in IV while at UCSB in the late 90s.. First IV Halloween I went to i was in High School (Dos Pueblos) and it was epic.. zero fights.. so many people.. no violence whatsoever ... I think that was 86.. it was so cool, everyone in costume, like the biggest coolest party you ever could go to... The people watching was insane. I went to a bunch of them while I lived in SB and they did get increasingly more and more crazy rowdy... less costumes, lots of property damage... cars illegally parked all over the place.. it ramped up and kind of imploded.. and UCSB def wanted to shed it's reputation of being a huge party school... it was so much fun though.. I still live in the area and would love to go to another but at least I got to experience it during what was probably it's peak in enjoyment.

I have been to IV for hallowing in 1992. It was wild, but fun and not dangerous at all. There was a massive police presence and hundreds of people were arrested, but there was no violence and the atmosphere was quite relaxed actually.

My good buddy attended UCSB from 2006-2010. He lived in the houses just off campus. He invited all his buddies from Orange County to rage in IV every Halloween and July 4th. Amazing times! Getting Freeb!rds four times a day was a must. My then-girlfriend ruined our trip to IV for Halloween 2007 by doing drunken ballet in the street and almost immediately spraining her ankle. We had been in the city for all of 32 minutes. I was forced to drive her silly, broken ass back down to Orange County so she could get help from an in-network doctor. She recovered and I never forgave her 😂

Attended from 2002-2008 (6564 DP from 2004-2008) and I can say Halloween weekend is still one of the highlights of my life... That being said, I did notice the party scene start to dip in general, starting in 2007... Smarter kids do party less 💀💀💀

Did UCSB in the '80s. Reputed to have the best Halloween west of the Mississippi on DP. Students would drive motor homes in from at least as far as Michigan to party with the gauchos. Good times. Really intoxicated, but seemed safe enough.

Okay, everybody should shut up about “Kids stay in school, study hard, don’t party”. “College kids” aren’t “kids”, they’re young adults. Sure, you have a test to study for, go study. But if you want to go to an event, it’s just like any other. You have to manage your time with fun and work/study. This is different because it’s not the “safest” of parties, but enter at your own risk. Obviously if you’re going to this, you know what it entails. If you’re under 18, well your parents should have been watching you or have taught you better. Police, just like you have to manage New Years, same goes for Halloween. Don’t add laws because the government doesn’t want to deal with the hassle. News reporters, there’s a lot to say on this, but to keep it short. Go ahead and show people other alternatives than that party. That is fine, but if they end up choosing the later, there’s no fault to be had. That’s my opinion.
