I agree, I have been riding gotways since their first msuper in 2015. I bought the sherman this spring and I am not looking back. I think their best engineers went to veteran and now they have the speakers and ledlights guys left.

maybe the reason why Inmotion just doesnt have that performance is that they designed their product to be safe. Gotway is off limits. There was not so much precautions for safety during design. When looking on dissasembly, the packaging looks very garage like. Not really a product for masses.

As a product engineer, I think ensuring production quality IS indeed one of the many responsibilities of engineers. There are so many things that we could do to eliminate human error in the design process. I dont think engineers can dismiss their responsibilities by saying the production guys did a bad job.

Agreed, the things that worries me is that I feel like these often obvious issues points to greater problem with their internal process. How they engineer and produce probably work for a boutique company that make a few hundred product a year but they have gone waay waaay beyond that and the cracks are starting to show.

Thank you for making this video! I agree with everything you said. We need to stand strong and steer away from Gotway until they can prove to is that they've changed. We need control boards in separate, waterproof, compartments. We need marine grade heat shrink connectors, we need effective fans and cooling that can do the job without water flooding the wheel. We need a new generation of EUC, and right now, Gotway is not it.

I've never ridden any of the other Gotway wheels, but I love my little mTen3, even though it smells terrible from the Gotway container fire. My other wheels are Kingsong, and I have NO regrets. Both of them roll very nicely.

They aren't terrible, especially the older design are all pretty bomb proof, but keep in mind its always recommended that you open up your gotway to double check regularly.

If you look at Raz's video all the packs were burned from the top down, the upper few cells closest to the board. it really looks to me to be a fire that was started by the board, but of course I don't know for sure either.

Perhaps, The people who left Gotway to start work on the Veteran sherman, where the brains behind the operation. What gotway shares now as "fixes" are basically what a kid with a tube of silicone would come up with, without thinking about it. Batteries should be within their own boxes, The controller should be places elsewhere in its own fireproof box and have temperature fuses on the input, as to cut the batteries in case of a fire. They also should add fuses on each cell within the battery pack that would blow, should it short. As much as i like Gotway from the past, its clear now that they dont do proper testing.. if any. How can it be that a wheel made to replace other forms of transport, is not protected from the outside elements.

The saddest thing is that it doesn't take a revolutionary change for GW to turn it around. More attention to details, better weather proofing, beefier shells with corresponding metal screw inserts, fuses & a harsher production testing will go a long way. Except for the initial company mindset restructure & slightly longer assembling time, it likely won't even up their overall costs per wheel. If others can do similar, GW sure the heck can. Question is....will GW listen & if they are, will they bear the short term pain for long term gains. Consumers can be the tsunami of change by exercising our wallets (or not as the case dictates).

My ninebot went through two main boards. The second time it went it actually burned the battery. It was lucky I noticed the smoke or my workshop would have gone up in smoke with it. All these wheels should have a battery isolation device other than just a fuse. I currently don't have a wheel and I'm going to wait until things improve

There needs to be multiple fail safe to make sure that a burned controller cannot effect the batteries. We are all running on luck for some time and eventually someone will not catch it in time and lose their home as a result!

I think that most wheels have needed buyer testings (although it would be good to have these wheels rigorously tested before being on the market...like properly tested), so that the kinks be known. Fires etc are unacceptable...and there's no recompense...shame. But subjectively, Gotway is the most highly purchased...as a result more failures statistically will be found. Still no excuses though for poor QC. I don't hear of any Kingsong, Veteran nor Inmotion burnups

@@OWGAC You are not speaking truth, you are giving a jaded opinion. Please see Denis Hagov review about Sherman lack of gaskets. He does a tear down of the Sherman. He used a light to show all the areas that on the Sherman there is clear unprotected water entry points, even right into the area where the Veteran's mother board is located. No gaskets around battery compartments. No EUC is water proof, all EUC's can start a fire. All this hate speech on gotway... It's like the Kettle calling the pot black.

It may be too little, too late though. An EUC lithium fire that is ejecting exploding batteries burning at a very high heat, might be setting a whole room on fire. The fire balls, blankets, bag of fire suppressants might not provide enough area coverage, or enough saturation. In the time it takes before they deploy, the entire room might be already be ablaze. Fire in apartment block is incredibly dangerous. High density of people, difficult and limited access escape routes, difficulty for firefighters to rescue people, fighting the fire. Just think of the Grenfell Tower fire in London. Fire sprinklers that spray water are going to make a lithium fire even worse.

@@hoodatheist5549 There's no best model, but the Inmotion V8/V8F is the most popular. I started off on a Kingsong 14D and still really like it, even though I've since upgraded to a V10F. The Ninebot One series makes a nice starter wheel too. Gotway is still unrivaled when it comes to power/portability in the smaller wheels (MCM5 and Mten3) but hopefully Veteran, Inmotion, or Kingsong can release something to compete in that market. (I love 14 inch wheels but I'll never buy a Gotway.)

There were a few people talking about it on r/ElectricUnicycle when the picture was released, though I don't think anyone knows more than what's been circulating: A Gotway RS that was left on during transit exploded en route to the US, so a lot of people in the shipment got delayed shipments or smelly wheels. It's still under investigation, I believe.

Are other companies much better? I am currently in the process of getting my third V10F ... my first one just died on the third ride, my second one seemingly has had bearings go bad and makes terrifying grinding noises after riding on wet roads a couple of times (not even in the rain, never powerwashed either) ... I would probably be trying out another manufacturer by now if Inmotion didnt have a reputation for making the best built and most reliable EUCs, so I dont really know where to go from here.

Gotway doesn't have a history of watching videos that review their products. I doubt they will watch this video. But they need to have a wake-up call, or face the likelihood of going out of business. I would suggest that the insurance company that covered this truck fire watch it. They have ways to make sure Gotway is notified of the problem, and fix it quickly.

Thank you. We need to make sure these companies know that this is just not ok. The market is growing and they need to tackle QC as a serious issue. Personally I have not given Gotway my money and I won't, until they resolve the ridiculous number of issues with their wheels. Imo all it takes is for inmotion to release a wheel that goes above 35mph, like 40ish, and Gotway will be shrekkd. The veteran hit them hard. They're losing their edge in the market.

start with a use wheel! I keep telling ppl this, buy a relatively recent (no older than 2019) 16" or 18" wheel and learn on that first, once you know how to ride then you can figure out what are your priorities and what's the best wheel for you.

Due to the ride, condition of travel, and handling of the unit/units could cause damage too the unit. Poorly installed wires - chip-board and lack of design can cause damage, fire to the unit. If fire protection is installed into a unit it can reduce risk, but not illuminate the problem.

your opinions keep me changing my mind on what unicycle to buy... :-d (i'm just getting into this unicycle world) first a was attracted to the Ninebot Z10 because i really kil that design, then after watching some reviews of you, i decided to abort that plan. then i directed my interest towards the GW monster (V1, second hand with really low mileage) but now you say not to buy one :/ i don't plan on modifying one nor ride in the rain, and if i do get in some rain, i might open it up and dry out and see if i can somehow make it more waterproof. i don't want to spend the big amount of cash (just yet) so... what now? :p

I think you can make a case that nikola is not a fire risk, it’s an older design and one of their most reliable wheels. Unless you just want to punish gotway.

Problem I see are that their general QC has gone down hill, a well engineer wheel can still be risky if it wasn't build properly. The msp wasn't that new of a design as it is 90% msx. all it takes is a poorly soldered connection ..

Well Hsiang I now have 2 fire blankets to cover my unpredictable Msp and Sherman in case my Msp fire spreads to the Sherman. I felt it was a layer of protection when I'm not there if it happens.

All unicycles have some kind issue. Only gotway have fast wheels, sherman only 1 model. But it is awfull with fire problems. It will be great if veteran build 24 tum wheel.

In add I can say that a high quantity of RS, like my new one, are affected from several bearings failure and the must famous TOCK problem (defective stator alignment) My one got the Tock problem and gotway send me a couple of bearings, unfortunately this problem is not about the bearings but I regarding wrong assembling and bad component quality... Result 1.7k euro through in the WC

The bearing issue is another problem that really just blows my mind, some how they swap all their products over without testing the components and now a good bit of their customers and dealers are left holding the bag on expensive repairs...

@@OWGAC bearings and rust problems are one thing but the misalignment off the stator is a bigger and serious thing! The water and dirt that cause rust in bearings are caused from a bad sealing of the bearings compartment and in some way you can fix it, but the stator misaligned you can't fix it. A lot of RS and Ex are affected from this issue!

Did they ever finish their investigation and publish a finding? Will they replace the battery packs or BMS's that are at risk (even if just at cost)? Or will they just keep producing more iterations of the same wheels? I love my Nik+ but it worries me that they haven't found out why their wheels occasionally burst into flame. Perhaps you should do a new video on their findings (or lack of) and what they're doing about it - obviously you should use the name Begode as I doubt the new company will care if you continue to blame the old company Gotway.

When is Kingsong coming out with a high speed wheel. I want the speed and high torque in a EUC but with the safety of Kingsong. I never trusted gotway when it came to wheels. They’re like the Samsung of EUCs, always coming out with new models without real testing while Kingsong is like Apple, may not be first but when they’re there, it’s good quality.

First of all “Tumbling Trama” after a high speed crash is the worst thing for a 40-60 lbs unit to take especially for a battery pack. After a vicious crash you should disassemble your EUC completely and inspect every inch of its hardware just for the sake of peace of mind. Sleeping soundly every night is priceless. In perspective Every owner needs to invest into a thick non flammable furniture moving blanket and a bucket of sand while you store the unit indoors. In the case of an emergency one should completely pour the sand directly onto the burning unit completely covering it and then cover it with the blanket. Make adequate ventilation available, for the smoke and fumes will destroy articles of investment within the vicinity. The suffocation of oxygen and keeping the explosive materials contained will alleviate monstrous combustible explosions and a spreading fire with these precautions in place it could be possible for a fire to be kept to a minimum and preserve human life. This idea is just for owners who are stuck with a wheel of poor design or quality or have had a severe “tumble” but you can’t afford to just throw it away. Side note: Condition your battery; don’t overcharge the battery to 100% every night. If you like your dwelling..... All in all some models/companies have this poor design and its not acceptable and things need to change.

I found a thread warning of fires on the V10/V10F, but that was back in late 2018 and I haven't heard anything since. I think the current batches of those wheels should be okay. Kingsong... well, I heard about a 16S that caught fire in a building some years ago, but this seemed to be an isolated incident. And I haven't heard of the 16X bursting into flames at all. Basically no brand has a squeaky clean track record, but Gotway is still the worst offender by far- even before these incidents I'd already heard of a guy whose Nikola blew up and someone else whose Tesla cut off and burst into flames.
