That said, he CHOSE to die because of the guilt he felt after murdering his son. The endless follow a set of rules created during the beginning of the multiverse with death being the exception. There were many times when he could simply avert his death. In fact, the reason he chose daniel hall was in order for him to die. 1-He could have just never kill his son. Spilling family blood makes you vulnerable like loving mortals. It can only end badly. That’s why dire tried he best in order to get Morpheus to kill her/his child. 2- He could have stepped over the circle and kill the mother. This way the furies would be called off. They even addressed it in the comics, it’s not that he CANT but won’t as it would break the rules. 3- He could just ignore the summon as the furies can’t do squat while he is in his realm. Yes they can kill the other inhabitants but he can recreate them no problem. 4- He can just leave. I know, even death said it in the final panels. He simply could leave the dreaming like destruction and the furies would leave him alone. 5- The funny thing is that death could simply not reap him. The furies can do squat if death CHOSE not to take her brother. Morpheus had been planning his suicide for a long time. Death respected his wish and chose to grant it.

Death and the maiden is a trope that goes back for all of human history. especially in the Renaissance there were lots of paintings of beautiful maidens dancing with skeleton (or the grim reaper) representing death. I think it's because women give life. Women are inherently tied to bringing life into the world. Young maidens have all of the promise and fertility and potential to bring life into the world so it makes sense to me they would be associated with death as well. Life and death are two sides the same coin. Having aa skeleton representing death dancing with a beautiful young girl has this interesting comparison like light and dark, or sun and moon. Women can give life and therefore can choose NOT to give life which is like death by inaction. Even today our society has a fascination with beautiful young girls dying tragically young. If you look at the true crime community the most popular and well known cases are those are the victim is a beautiful young woman. Idk something about it just draws our attention.

Did they learn nothing from the dumpster fire that is Titans the DC show? I get that no one watched it but you have to look at previous history on this kind of thing and realize it's going to be controversial. Kirby might do a great job in the role or she might portray the character completely differently and I'll feel a bit cheated out of a great character but there was no real need to change specifically Death's character's appearance. I get that Americans whitewash movies and I don't agree with that either but that doesn't mean that they need to overcorrect by making a character with a nickname of 'the pale lady' black. She's literally the only character in the show that it wouldn't make sense to change. Heck they could have even changed Dreams default appearance and I wouldn't have minded, it would even be a fun tie-in for the whole time in Africa subplot thing so they wouldn't need to use a different actor. I don't mind the change to lucifer, the actor they are using is great too from her appearance in game of thrones. I don't mind the change to the head librarian because their appearance isn't explicitly something like 'the pale one' or anything XD Just make the black characters be portrayed well instead of following any stereotypes rather than forcing more into places they don't make sense for the sake of 'being inclusive' because then you'll just come off as copying whitewashing which is also bad. Also on the grounds of shapeshifting Death and Dream do shape-shift throughout the series but rather than turn into whatever they want they seem to instead take on an appearance based on those that perceive them, adapting what's to be expected but when alone they have a fairly singular appearance. When the gods come to visit dream in order to plead their case for the key he meets with each of them and with each meeting his appearance changes to fall more in line with them. Taking a traditional Japanese attire and appearance for Susano-o-no-Mikoto of the Japanese pantheon. He even gains less human features when meeting with Bast the Egyptian cat god becoming more catlike but not entirely cat as he does in his appearance as the cat of dreams.

that pissed me off with the casting. It's not that she is being portrayed by a black actress. Or the fact that Netflix has a tendency to fire "Woke" actors suddenly upon completion of a project and blacklist them from working again. The sandman is the one series Netflix could do where different genders and ethnicities for characters makes sense. The endless have no gender or ethnicity specifically. Their appearances are based on how people perceive them due to a multitude of factors such as that person's race, culture, time period, and religion. So in other words, their appearance is based on an interpretation of whoever is in their presence at any given time. The endless can appropriate entire races and represent religions like it's a "teenage phase" based on how a person interacting with them interprets them. That being said, the actress they chose is supposed to portray an interpretation of death who is a white goth girl. which makes sense due to the time period the comic is set in along with the backround and races of the characters she interacts with. They would have to change up the majority of her backstory of every character she interacts with in order to explain how her appearance makes absolutely no sense in the context of the original character. They are missing a major point the source material was trying to make.

@@punishersnake4888 Lol The Sandman was always a progressive series. It had a lot of LGBTQIA, black and female empowerment in it from the start. It just wasn't as out there due to the massive amounts of plot and subtext. Desire is non-binary and there is a trans character. Even Dream's first lover is a powerful black woman. There are even gay and lesbian characters and a lesbian couple (who have a child, even). And Death even gives a talk about AIDS prevention and safe sex during the time when the HIV/AIDS epidemic was raging. It's not the SJW's fault that directors don't know what to fucking do with certain properties. Cowboy Bebop was bad because it just didn't translate well to live action and a lot of it was just cringy and jarring. I'm sure the production team cared about it, otherwise they wouldn't have tried to keep it somewhat faithful. Death quitting is different from Destruction quitting. Death continues, even when destruction ends. Death is the vital role to life. If Death quits, life suffers.

@@ArtistChibi cute, a needless ad hominem attack. I hope that you feel better about yourself. I have been reading these comics since they were just comics, kid. You make an inference that Death is vitally important, but she really isn’t. Suffering is a condition that happens when informed people make judgments about their lives. Do you believe that every wild animal suffers throughout its entire life? Are you so childish as to believe that every human needs to be ushered along to the Sunless Lands? Death herself said otherwise in issue 8, but I guess that you know better than the character or author. Do you enjoy ad hominem attacks?

@@reapersritehand Neil Gaiman created her based on a white woman. Him bactracking is JK Rowling levels of "can I get some brownie points for pandering, pretty please?" But she was white for a really good reason: Because she isn't a human and doesn't actually have a race. There's plenty of diversity in the Sandman. It was a really progressive series from the get-go. There were trans characters and powerful women and even important black characters. But not making the Endless, the very characters that form the core of the series look like they were designed to is a serious slap in the fucking face. The Endless were pale white to signify that they had no ethnicity and they can appear in any form that reflected the culture/universe they were in. Hell, even Delirium took the form of a Chinese girl at one point. It's off-putting that Netflix and even Neil himself chose to completely shrug this off.

I am a bit disappointed with the casting of Death ( her Primary form not being a skinny pale Goth) Although I get that the endless appear as the person viewing them thinks they should look, as we see dream appear black to Nadia or a flaming skull to Martian Manhunter, or a Black Cat to a little kitten. And Death iirc was shown to be an Asian woman to a man on one of her days spent as a human, to better understand what it is "she" does. However, I do wish we had a comic accurate version of Death. I mean, cast Delerium or Desire or god forbid Destruction or Destiny as a P.o.C. Why did it Have to be Death? Is it that she is the best character in the series? Why not make Dream aka Neil black? I'm going to love the show and 100% sure Death is going to be great, but mostly because the character as written is Great and any "race" of actor with their salt, given a character as rich as Death would have a hard time being horrible.
