The idea that the thing was scrapped for being unreliable and hard to clean is actually really realistic
@agentc70207 ай бұрын
Very realistic in an universe where demons can kill you with magic sound weapons, yeah, I'm sure dedicating man power to the maintenace of their ordenamce would have been too unrealitic for the 30k imperium.
@deeznuts-kw6yv7 ай бұрын
@@agentc7020sure it sounds easy as first until your realize that you need to put the infrastructure, manpower and resources to upkeep the supply lines and the manufacturing power to keep it all going would be an absolute logistical nightmare on such an astronomically large scale as the imperium of man, to the point where a bolter would be a lot more reliable
@varxe77 ай бұрын
@agentc7020 for an imperium with their crap together to give their standing armies, sure. it's way different when considering this was the time of the great crusade, meaning that their forces were going away from their forge worlds for longer periods of time. Ease of use and reliability are gonna be a much larger factor when you can't easily take care of your gear without turning the ship around. Also, remember that the emperor was speedrunning the great crusade, and if swapping from volkite to bolters removed possible delays than the change made even more sense.

I have a Volkite Pistol in VRChat. Can fire it and everything. Made the special FX for it myself. It's only litterally in the past couple years that the weapons have started getting more coverage on KZbin and 40k video games, so back when I made it, very few 40k fans actually knew what it was. It was good fun being able to meet up with the VR 40k community and show it off to them, challenging people to name what kind of weapon it was. Most were confused because at a glance it seemed like a strange combination of a plasma pistol with a lazgun. That was about three to four years ago. A lot more people recognise it these days. Is good fun.

I suspect it also would have to do with what the space marines were mostly fighting. During the crusade they weren't really fighting ceramite armored foes regularly so boltguns likely were a superior choice. Then with the heresy the infrastructure for mass rollout of volkite was lost.

Favorite weapons in the setting, especially in 30k. Should have mentioned that it uses thermodynamics to work, though. The beam is so hot that the target is freezing cold my comparison that it explodes the contents within. Using it against a tank leaves it relatively undamged, like a gamma neutron laser used on certain tanks. Using it on infantry will usually disintegrate them, and leave survivors blind because they essentially stared into the sun at point blank

Ever heard of a pyroclastic flow? It's a mix of volcanic gasses, ash, rock, and other ejecta all flowing down and out from an eruption. When it starts to cool down a little you get flows of molten ash that burn everything they touch before they smother it under their thousands of pounds of weight. Flaming liquid ash.
@Webly1017 ай бұрын
@@dustinbragg1921 I mean, if you really want to get technical about it; that’s just ash mixed with molten/semi molten material; ash is already burnt, it can’t be liquid or on fire because it’s already “spent” and has nothing left to burn; that was kinda my original point To add another layer; liquid doesn’t burn, it changes to a gas and then combusts; so “flaming liquid” is still **technically** inaccurate.
