@R0B1NG55 жыл бұрын
@@Tamacat388 But they are not by revered creators. If some trash EA game does it, no one bats an eyelid these days. If Miyamoto or someone up there went off on his own little passion product and it had ads for Game of Thrones and Coke can powers ups, people might be feeling a little weird about the whole thing and you would no doubt have people asking what the hell is this crap. With Kojima, he just gets a pass, people just expect that cheap stuff with him and he can have his cake and eat it too. Being a revered "auteur" while literally having monster energy cans as items in his game. Its like big budget hollywood tacky forced product placement combined with a creatively loved directors movies, you just don't really see it very often. And he can add in anyone remotely famous he comes across in his travels almost as an in-joke in his games, regardless of how fitting they are. It just feels way more jarring than Jon Berenthal or whoever being a rough and gruff soldier man in a shooter, or whatever. Its not the same thing to me. The cameos in this game feel different to big name actors being in big games ect. It feels like he literally would have stuffed the first person he could in those roles if they were in some way famous and he could access them as his own clout grew over the years. I think replacing snakes voice actor with Sutherland shows his weird prioritization of fame too. He is like the WWE, jumping to impress anyone with any kind of mainstream notoriety.

@@R0B1NG5 "But they are not by revered creators" Sounds like SOMEONE doesnt play Yakuza games. And in fairness I dont think it's about Kojima getting his hands on whoever. Hes clearly a fan of Reedus and Mads outside of Death Stranding. And the other actors are from smaller arthouse cinema he likes and has always been talking about. These are actors he wants to work with and even partially wrote the characters around the specific actors. Which is something Shkesphere even did before you think that somehow makes things less "legit" and "artistic". Product placement also isn't a sin in of itself. It happens. And Kojima has been promoting products that hes personally a fan of since MGS3 with the calorie late and Triumph bikes. He spent months begging Ramen Noodles to be in MGS4 but they refused to be in a war game. And we all know Kojima has actually been wearing J F Rey glasses for years and even designed glasses for them. For me product placement is only bad if it's cynical hollow. Like your Miyamoto examples would be or Al Pacino Dunacino from Jack and Jill. But the product placement in Kojima games isnt cynical. It's another representation of Kojimas interests just like all the movie and book references in his games.

Some may like his style - Grant Morrison (comic book writer) for example, he's a guy who keeps getting hired - so someone must love his writing. i know I hate it. I like 20% of what Ive read by him. And thats me and Kojima, and I think Vinnie is a pretty good match to me - if he didn't like the story then I wont either; Ill pass on story. Other than that - for gameplay - if it had an easy mode with none of this degradation on shoes etc... It like everything I hated from Zelda Breath of the Wild! Weapons wear down, you have stamina, weight, hot and cold sensitivity, etc... An awesome game wrapped in bullshit I dont want to deal with! So I might try it - but from the sounds of it - its not a "pick up the game for a bit" game, its "devote 60 hours to it", and i dont know...

I can excuse the whole "U.S. looks like a Norwegian fjord" thing as the time warp and apocalypse warping the landscape. I can excuse the product placement as Kojima being Kojima. However, delivery quests are the ultimate form of game fluff. They're used to pad out an experience or help guide a player. "Hey, you need to go to the town of Darkshire and report to the constable for duty. The undead grow restless there! Oh, and can you deliver this package to my mistress? There's some money in it for you." More incentive to follow the critical path and a little extra immersive fluff. Maybe his mistress is a werewolf and their favorite song is "Howlin' For You" by The Black Keys. Why not? You can't make the game JUST the delivery quest fluff, though. Well, I mean... you could, but to what end? To what purpose? 50 hours of the player wandering from town to town delivering parcels and doing nothing but an endless linear litany of side-quests as acid rain dissolves their armor and ghosts punch them in the junk hardly seems very compelling. It sounds, and looks, tedious as hell. It would take a very particular personality that loves exploration for its own sake to get into this, and even then... this open world seems very barren. Full disclosure: I've already bought this game but haven't had the time to play it. I've watched four hours of gameplay footage now though and... I'm okay waiting a bit. I feel like I'll need rock music playing in the background and a bottle of whiskey to distract me as I trudge through this.
@Ingel_Riday66905 жыл бұрын
Oh, and on a weird fanboy note... I'm still glad I bought this game. I love Kojima and I'm happy to support his passion project with Norman Reedus. It takes a lot of courage to make an experimental AAA game, and I applaud that even if I am perplexed by the end result.
@Kandecid5 жыл бұрын
I think the appeal here is that the gameplay is traversing the landscape. In a normal delivery quest, you follow an easily defined path from point a to b and there is no challenge. To Vinny and Alex's points, there's some similarity here to Eurotruck simulator. And delivery quests is all those games are.

Well I am sure Death Stranding according to Giant Bomb is accurately as same quality as Metal Gear Survive given both games got two stars from them. It’s not being vindictive or even nasty. It’s being critical of their star system. I would ask them to change the scale to 100 as same as Easy Allies.
@KenY2KenTV5 жыл бұрын
@@sainuudotcom The whole score thing is specifically what they were trying to get away from with GB's star rating. Don't think of it as "this game is 17 points better than that one" (that doesn't actually mean anything and comparing different games directly like that doesn't really work). The actual analysis of the game comes in the text of the review. The star rating doesn't exist to compare it to other games, it's more an overall indication of their feeling and whether or not they'd recommend it. Both Survive and Death Stranding got two stars, because they're both games that the reviewer would not recommend playing unless you have a burning curiosity that must be sated, or are a big fan of the genre and can overlook the shortcomings.
@sainuudotcom5 жыл бұрын
KenY2Ken well my view is that they made it worse by going with star system because the reality is that people are going to compare and contrast. Heck GB even do it every year when they selectively choose their game of the year. At the end I am sure they have the best intentions I hope.
@KenY2KenTV5 жыл бұрын
@@sainuudotcom Of course people will always compare. But if, say, this had been a 45 and Survive a 38, what does that mean? It's not necessarily objectively a better game. Especially considering that Survive was reviewed by Jeff and DS by Alex, so their opinions might differ anyway. There's comparison within the text of the review but I think, as you say, they want to avoid people saying "well this is definitively better/worse than that because it got a slightly bigger/smaller number." Stars are clearer for someone asking, "Should I buy this game?" (though they should probably still read the whole review).

Dissapointed by Higgs? Did you guys read his journal after "end" of the game??

I thought about buying this game. But thankfully I've watched this video before doing that. I think I understand some themes of the narrative and it's not looking very good.

ALL the hating comments are obviously people that have NOT played the game...mostly cod fanboys i can assure...

ads for AMC and monster energy, hard pass

As trivial as it may seem to some, that shit puts me off so hard. I feel like I'm being slapped in the face when I see the Monster Energy and "Ride with Norman Reedus" shit. Moreso than any other type of advertisement/marketing, this feels like someone screaming in my face "LIKE AND PURCHASE THESE PRODUCTS."

I find the monster stuff hilarious. The tv shit not so much

Leading up to the release I was super excited to play it but tbh I'm happy to didn't jump head first and pre-order it. After looking at gameplay and reading reviews I'm really dispointed. Sure the world looks wonderful but the biggest turn off for me is the gameplay. I really don't want to spend $60 on a game were all you do is deliver packages. I don't have alot of money to spend on games and I'm really happy I didn't spend what could be last of my game money of the year on DS. I think I'll get Pokemon sword next week instead. I hope to one day try it myself maybe if it gets put on sale or ps plus. Till then I'll just wait and hope the next game from one of my most favorite devs be one I'll enjoy more.

Was that an ad for an AMC show? That’s a little jarring lol

This reminds me of Infinite Space on DS for some reason.

Seems like this game has a lot of things that are interesting to do once, but are too boring to tolerate doing again.
