Josh, great video as usual, however, I would highly recommend that, in very hot areas like Death Valley, wear cold wet neck coolers. Have at least two of them. Wear one and have the other one in a cooler wet, or at least have it in a wet zip-lock bag. Change every 1 or 2 hours. This will cool the blood going up to your brain. Stay safe!

I've been through Death Valley a few times. Always in summer, strangely enough. It's very beautiful. But little can prepare you for the heat. The first time I was there it got up to like 117. I washed a bandana in the sink and draped it over the bed of my truck and it was bone dry within 5 minutes.

Very nice video. I was there years ago and if you drive up to the higher elevations, it is much cooler. I was where they have structures that look like honeycombs. They were used to burn wood and get charcoal. If I ever get back that way, (I live in Florida) I would hike up there. I believe there is a trail that goes up into the woods up there. It's very cool compared to the lower elevations and would be a great hike! I remember driving back down to the motel and restaurant where we stayed and you could just feel the heat! It was like an oven! Dry and hot! I remember also we asked to be seated in the "No Smoking Section" at the restaurant and the person seating us said, "You are in California, they are all no smoking sections!" Funny! I'll never forget that!

I’ve been to Death Valley 4 times (I live in Ohio), it is my favorite NP.. I love it’s hostile environment, along with the beauty of the desert and mountains. I’ve stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch & Stove Pipe Wells. The beer tastes great after a full day in the desert heat. Also, the pizza at Panamint Springs is very good, and the beer is also good and cold. If you go allow a 2 day minimum, 3 is better. Would really like to do Titus Canyon. Great video.

I'm originally from Ohio too and love DV (username is from my 2 favorite parks, YS and DV). I would LOVE to do Titus Canyon. I was sick the day my friends did it and missed out. I agree about 2-3 days, the night sky is breathtaking, especially during a meteor shower!

You should try Hiking Telescope Peak. At ~11,000 feet above the Death Valley plateau it's a truly impressive view of the valley floor. Mt. Everest is ~13,000 above it's plateau. At this elevation the weather is actually quite nice in the summer.

@nightwines2 жыл бұрын
If you enter DV from the California side and are driving towards Nevada just as you pass the panamint springs resort, 190 starts dropping down that's where it is located. Superb spot to pull over and take a picture. My wife and myself were both able to take pictures of ourselves sitting in the middle of the highway with the background that you see. Not a single car came our way the entire time we were doing it...

I was able to visit this wonderful National Park back in Feb 2018. It was great not to be in the heat but the day was very short, and when it gets dark it really gets dark. Funny story, I had just picked up my mom coming from a cruise earlier in the morning in San Pedro when we made it to Death Valley. She couldn't believe it when she saw were the sea level sign was located. It was astonishing to put it in perspective how low Dead Valley is.

But it is such a wonderful place, but definitely wish we had a higher clearance vehicle. the place near the wagon are great for astro shots at night if you stay at the hotels in furnace creek, spend our sunrise and sunset at Zabriski point. we couldn't make it to the Devil's golf course, didn't want to risk our rented vehicle after going on it for like 10 feet. Our highlight was at Dante's View, we saw quite a few of those mountain goats there.

Thanks for posting. Only 110 in early July? That’s not bad. You went at a good time. Think it was that temp when I went in April a few years ago. I totally want to go back but not in summer. Maybe late fall. We were exiting the park on a road that takes you near china lake and the jets buzzed our car several times. My friend with me visiting from Norway got super excited to see them doing their maneuvers. We were the only people on the road which is probably why they were buzzing us to give us a thrill. Lol. I want to see more of the park. We were doing a whirlwind tour of the national parks in CA. So didn’t go everywhere we wanted. Only spent one day there. We have driven there from independence. It was fun but only got a taste. Totally want to go to Darwin falls now. Thanks as always for your posts. I’m itching to get out and explore more National forest trails near where I live in Ventura county. I only just, after 35 yrs in CA drove up hwy 33 to pine mountain club. We have an SUV, hope it will be good enough for the off roads. Thank you so much for sharing you travels and you dad. What do you think of doing these things in the fall? Stay safe and thanks again
@ericmaass34594 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to chime in if I may . I would strongly suggest that if you visit during the summer and your SUV is 10+ years old , rent an SUV . Older vehicles can't handle the heat the A/C system and engine create , combine that with the scorching desert heat. Overheating and tire failure is extremely common . Most all the offroad trails are not maintained and are extremely remote . Large road wash out are common and jagged rocks easily puncture sidewalls . I was there a few years ago and rented a fairly new Nissan Frontier out of Las Vegas for dirt cheap and drove to DV .

Those borax wagons there in Harmony are the original water tank and wagons. The Laws Railroad Museum & Historical Site in Bishop, actually "Laws, CA", house recently copied to the millimeter replicas of the 20 Mule Team Borax Wagons and the water tank which are used each year now during the town parades. Well worth looking into and the one man shop that hand built them using era methods is an incredible craftsman in Joliet Montana, Engels Coachworks.
