They need to make music again. I cannot find appart from Deafheaven's music, a sound as heavily melodic and such a thunder at the same time. It is very hard to explain but the rawness and tightness of this band is just unreal to me.

Rotting Christ. They sound nothing like this, but they're amazing and I'd use exactly those words to describe em. There's a thoughtful, introspective, depressive quality to bands like Oathbreaker, Rotting Christ don't have that, but they're melodic, thunderous, raw and tight. It's much more life affirming than melancholy though, which adds a different kind of sexy to proceedings. 'Kata Ton Daimona Atoy' or 'Aeoleo' albums. For a post sound I'd suggest Rolo Tomassi. 'Time will die and live will bury it' is a good album to start with. Actually, I can't recommend enough 'Endless Twilight of Codependent Love' by Solstafir. And their previous album Berg-something (its Icelandic and I'm not looking up how to spell it) has a similar haunted feel to this song. Don't go to far back into their back catalogue though. Slightly different sound...
@laurentcoukan46173 жыл бұрын
@@matthewgodding777 Thank you. I know and appreciate Rotting Christ and Rolo Tmassi. I will definitely chech Solsatafir, although the bands name sounds very familiar. I find also similar feelings in the atmospheric Black Metal / post rock scene. Bands like Ellende, Waldgefluster, Karg, Harakiri in the sky, Grima... Bands worth checking out.
@matthewgodding7773 жыл бұрын
@@laurentcoukan4617 Karg's a new one for me. Ellende are alright. Waldgefluster are ok. Harakiri just don't work for me. Post- black doesn't really work for me tbh. I prefer post-hardcore type bands. Or Isis/Neurosis for post-'metal' (both bands are hardcore and every post metal band ever has been absurdly derivative of them) So I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by Oathbreaker. They're pretty good. Normally for black metal I'd prefer to be in the dissonant/psychedelic or war/raw wheelhouses. Give me Deathspell Omega and Conqueror every day of the week

When all of us turn to dust Will you teach me how to love We'll no longer whisper the tongue of lies You ate my heart out, I am stone Your damaged skin on top of mine I buried the mind that clenched too tight Teach me the comfort of denial You ate my heart out, I am stone I've grown indifferent to desire Stop running through my eyes Tie me up and feed me lies You ate my heart out, I am stone The world drained me of kindness Drift words can only mean as much I was nothing, I didn't matter You ate my heart out, I am stone I'm hungry, but I'm losing taste Let me turn my back on home Seeking love without boundaries You ate my heart out, I am stone I blame the barren sky For drying out my filthy mouth Who will decide if I care enough You ate my heart out, I am stone

The video for this song embodies something that is very rare, not just in this relative genre but in music everywhere. There's a sort of "heart" and sense of purpose, a message, behind it that is just hard to come by. The video exemplifies itself as an ambiguous work of art that leaves room for the viewer to apply it to his/her/their life in a way that I just don't think most of us get to experience often. I don't know, I like to think of myself as an honest guy, and, so, full disclosure, I'm a bit drunk; but, having seen this band live and having talked to some of the members of it (the vocalist), I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is something special. It sent chills down my spine that I have only felt in a few other choice circumstances. Respect to these people. Respect to this music. Keep it up, keep touring. I will be there when you come to my city.
