The the first 2 minutes sounds like Ovedur from Sigur Rós. Absolutely fantastic song. What a time to be alive... This new wave of black metal (Blackgaze?) with the shoegaze/post-metal/post-rock influences is amazing. I mean just look at these bands: deafheaven, An Autumn for Crippled Children, Oathbreaker, Altair of Plagues, Bosse-de-Nage or even AmenRa... Damn

it's not black metal... Oathbreaker is more crust punk/post hardcore with some sludge influence. Blackgaze isn't even a new thing..
@Voidkom8 жыл бұрын
I listen to almost exclusively black & crust. There's no crust in here, it's mainly just dark hardcore and black metal. You're probably confused due to crust having a lot of crossover eg. when combined with black metal (Martyrdöd, Iskra, Young And In The Way, etc) or neocrust when combined with dark/melodic hardcore (Tragedy, Alpinist, Jungbluth, Downfall of Gaia, etc). This has plenty of black metal elements though, the part from 2:25 til 3:00 is a straight up typical black metal guitar riff.
@danielsuarez7868 жыл бұрын
Reported990 well, your description is so chaotic. It's just blackened melodic death metal similar to early Novembre. But lets say they have their personality. No crust or punk or hardcore at all.

I only found out about this band a couple of weeks ago whilst I was searching the net for some new black metal to listen too, wow what a gem of a band. This is the kind of black metal I like to hear. Shit that is not afraid to break the mold and still be heavy as fuck. I'm honestly not sure that any other extreme metal genre is as willing to experiment and branch out as black metal. I can't wait to hear the full album, this shit is amazing and incredibly beautiful!
@scumbagpeter8 жыл бұрын
This isn't black metal, it's a kind of dark and melodic hardcore :)
@resevil23968 жыл бұрын
Well everyone has their own definitions of genres but its definitely black metal to me. Im not a fan of hardcore and don't hear any elements of it really. Maybe a bit here and there, and theres definitely some progy sounding bits, but there is definitely a strong black metal element to their music and thats what stands out the most to me.
@resevil23968 жыл бұрын
It would be most accurate to say its a fushion of hardcore and black metal. Personally I've only really listened to the singles for the new album so far, which largely ditch the hardcore aspects for a stronger black metal sound with some postmetal in there too.
@scumbagpeter8 жыл бұрын
I don't understand, what do you consider as "black metal stuff" in this track ?
@resevil23968 жыл бұрын
Generally anything with black metal style vocals (which she kind of has here, though its closer to plain screaming), tremolo picking, and a generally dark sound. But its not just me, their wiki page specifically mentions them as fusing hardcore with black metal.

I can't express how much appreciation I have for this music and especially the finale of this song. There is little music that carries me away emotionally like this - and I'm actually not that close to black metal as a whole. The pure, unfiltered power of the desperate screams at the end, which have shed any moment of artificiality, are so frighteningly immediate. I only manage to listen to this song every half a year, but I still keep coming back to it - even though I reliably know that after listening to it, my day is done.
