The momma got married at 16 or 17 yrs old. Then, her abusive father just kept abusing her and getting her pregnant for the next 17 or 18 yrs. That's how the DeBarge Family ended up w/ 10 children in the initial family unit.

Oh my! Thank you for making that clear to us! We care about this family just as much as others! They went thru so much! This has happened to other families too! There’s nothing new under the sun! I realized later a person in my neighborhood was my 1st cousin!!!!! Total shocker! But it explained how athletic we were! He had a brother as well from a different mother! (Same father). Both were taller than me but great basketball players!

My mom (rip) always said she had 2 brothers. While a work, a guy walks in with the same last name. After us doing some comparisons it turned out he's my uncle. He was devastated to think his pastor father had an outside daughter. He and I have 0 relationship and I prefer to keep it that way.

I think it's because he's probably been through the same things that they went through . Robert Debarge Sr had two separate families , but I think he treated his kids exactly the same , which is sad . As for JohVonnie Jackson , they considered her a bastard child . Plus , Joseph treated her much nicer that he did his other kids . She didn't have to feel his wrath or get slapped down by him when making a mistake . She never struggled like they did, or knew what it was like to be mentally abused . Janet is the only one who talks to her .

When she got older Katherine accepted her and allowed her to stay in the family house and while JohVonnie wanted to help with the bills Katherine told her it was cool but whenever Katherine traveled JohVonnie made sure the house chores and staff was alright. When Joe became ill with cancer Rebbie and JohVonnie helped take care of him.
