The funny thing is that as an Everton fan , that opening tirade could have been about us the past 2 or 3 season . Enjoy ' safety' moyes , Plan A dont lose . Plan B not included , attacking football sold separately , no refunds or returns .

I have to say I agree with the first guy.-His point about there not being any signs as to how the team is going to get better is so true.-As a United fan who has watched every game this season.-I can't tell you that I've seen a style or a way of play that Moyes wants to go with.-Maybe except his route 1, out-dated tactic of get it wide and get it in.-I understand that this is not his set of players.-But as a manager it is his job to motivate these players and get the most out of them.-And this is something he has not done.-He needs to show he can use what he has in front of him and get the most he can out of them.-A great manager gets his players to play his way even if he didn't pick them.-I think he has lost this team.-And it's not worth giving him all this money to buy players.-He hasn't shown that he has a plan for this club.-He has only shown that he is completely out of his depth tactically, organizationally, and as a manager.-And I truly believe throwing money at him will just be throwing money down a rabbit-hole and hope to find gold...

You say you have watched all games this season, but how many did you watch last season? are you going to say that our midfield/defense was well last year? if you are then you are dumb. We only won title because of super season for strikers, this season our strikers have been poor(in fact rooney and rvp were injured at same time, and rvp has been out for most of the season now it seems.) How many points have we dropped by individual mistakes that defenders have made this season?? how many points have we lost due to defender individual mistakes in last minutes? are you going to say that moyes should have been on pitch and played for these guys? he can't do it. Its been the team who has let moyes down. How many times has he had the chance to start same squad for 2 games in a row this season? Listen mate, as much as you have watched the games, you haven't picked up these things and these are just to name a few. Listen now, if he is gonna buy players this summer, they are going to be world class, so let him do it, let him get the players, lets judge him then, if he fails, new manager will be left with new world class players. Lets talk about bayern games? he made this squad to play evenly with european champions, who are one of the best teams in the world right now. WE LOST THE TIE DUE TO INDIVIDUAL MISTAKES AGAIN.

How can John Giles say he got no chance to bring in players ? He was announced as the new Man Utd manager on May 9th of last year and officially took up his managerial position on July 1st. That gave him the middle of May till the end of August (almost 4 months) to work on getting the players he wanted for the start of the season. He then had from the start of September till the end of January (5 months) to make more changes.

A really good point I would've brought up was, Liverpool were in a similar position last year under Rodgers. Now look at them. Liverpool were shit (they wasn't champions the year before) but still, they were really off the pace. Rodgers, with a limited budget needed a few players, but wasn't gonna have the time and backing to do that with so little money and only one January transfer window. Not to mention at this point they still had players like Joe Cole lingering around (exactly what Moyes is facing). So what he does is.. signs Sturridge and Coutinho for £12m and £8m and off loads the shite. Which results in Liverpool than going on to having Top 4 form for the rest of the season in 2013. And lets not forget, on the 1st of January 2014, Man United were 2 points off Liverpool. What Moyes did was buy a player for £40m+ (Mata) who occupies the position is best player already plays in (Rooney). So what the young lad was saying about "why should he get the £100m+ in the summer" is spot on, he shouldn't. A good manager is one who can show you that he is going to improve, like Rodgers did. He said "here is what I did when things were looking bad, give me the money and I will show you something good". And he's about to become a Premier League winning manager!

In 11 years with us he made his signings before August once . I heard from a Preston fan the day he came to Everton in 2002 . You have got yourself a good motivator , gets the best from average players , but he's useless in the transfer market . Cries about the money he has had here ( pleading poverty despite smashing our tranfer record 4 times ) then when he goes to a team with spending power and an already potent attack ? .....sits on his hands , does nothing , makes a last minute panic buy . With a player from his old club .

Really good and interesting debate. I understand the point of only judging him when he's made his own changes, but personally, based on what Moyes has done so far for United, I wouldn't really be 100% confident in giving him a large investment for the summer. With an opinion like that, all arrows point to him leaving. I think he's a genuine bloke with a good heart, but he's not cut out for the job.

People are living in a dreamworld, where they are imagining that Moyes will turn it around. People are too polite with Moyes. Did Hiddink get a chance to build his team when he was appointed in Chelsea? Did Benitez get a chance to build his team? NO! Anyway, they managed to win FA cup and Uefa Cup.

I side with Richard on this one. Indeed, what is Moyes's stamp? I don't think he was allowed to fully make his point. From my perception, he was only allowed to make the point that he's not been able to make his stamp on the players and reign their egos in a bit. But, more importantly, in terms of establishing a playing style/philosophy/etc. what is Moyes's stamp? This, I feel, is a much deeper issue. Ok, he's not yet had a chance to get his own players in, but the point Richard is making I think is, even if he does, what is the David Moyes playing system? At Everton he was famed for working miracles with nothing, but that was because he got the most out of some astute buys, but even then, his greatest triumph was sneaking into the champion's league spots a few times, and you never heard anyone say that they accomplished this playing the "Everton way". There was no Everton way, and Moyes's certainly looks incapable of establishing a new "Man United way" as well, which is why the younger fellow is most likely correct and Moyes will inevitably be out of a job, whether that is in May or next Christmass. As a Liverpool fan, one can only hope it's in Christmas with 100 million pounds in the drain.

Only the younger guy had a clue, spot on the united way left with Fergie. What is Moyes stamp? Very valid question unanswered by either of the old boys. At the top in the modern game managers have to motive the superstars, not build a new team of stars? That is lower table fodder not champions aspirations.

Have to admit Richard is correct in his analysis. Alex Ferguson advised David Moyes to retain the backroom staff, a winning and experienced backroom staff, so that they could help him adjust to the move to MUFC and everything that would entail. e.g. competing in the Champions League, and for a top four place. Moyes ignored this advice with his first decision as manager, sacked the backroom staff and brought in his staff from Everton. If Richard Keyes blog is to be believed Ferguson was furious. The original idea may have been that Moyes would act solely as manager making only key decisions and the rest of the successful football machine that is MUFC would continue on a day to day basis as it had done under Ferguson. At the point he sacked the backroom staff, Moyes decided his future at MUFC, It is not his club, Ferguson despite media perception ran the club as a collaboration, Moyes has given the message loud and clear that he is running things, and when they are being run so shambolicly he has to pay the price for it.

It doesn't mean that every time a new manager comes in, the entire squad has to be overhauled to his players. Especially not a championship squad. That would be ridiculous. Everton didn't need a overhaul to maintain their standard. Neither did Man City, Chelsea or Bayern Munich.

Moyes' way of playing football is too negative for Man Utd. He created a decent team at Everton but hasn't won or done anything to give the fans hope looking forward. He was the wrong appointment from the start, he needs to go and a winning manager needs to be brought in.
@hornetbee05
@hornetbee05 10 жыл бұрын
To John, you say that he has inherited the players and needs time to bring in his own players to affect the way he wants to play. But you forget that Roberto Martinez went to David Moyes Everton team and has changed their playing style. He got a few players on loan on the last day of the summer transfer window (and lost Fellaini who was a key man) and now they play possession attacking football. He has put his stamp on this team and Moyes hasn't with Manchester United. Everton are playing better without Moyes while Manchester is playing worse with him. I don't think Man U should give Moyes money to build a team because if he gets it wrong the next manager will have even more work to do. You can see the job is too big for him and he can't motivate a team that had a winning mentality, how is he going to instill that into a new group of players if he couldn't do that with Everton for 11 years. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Everton win the FA cup with Martinez, proving that Moyes is not a top manager but a mid-table one. But as a Liverpool fan I can't complain its Nice to see us fighting for the title while Man U struggle.

I can see the point of "wait until he gets his own player choices in..." So what happens if that fails? Do we then wait another 2 years (1 year for playing with the players the new manager doesn't want and another for the year of promise) until you end up spending hundreds of millions. Or do you think... well if 1 guy manager to get this squad to perform, why can't another? I never personally thought Moyes was up for the task. I don't think anyone would put Moyes in the category of Jose, Pep, Fergie, Wenger etc and that is the stature of manager United needs. I agree with the point made of rodgers, he was given a quite hapless liverpool squad and if anything from what I remember he was critised for playing football the players at the time couldn't keep up with. I would rather have someone saying "United are trying to hard to play fast attacking football than United are overly defensive and not commited."

Very interesting. Im kind of thorn between opinions. And just because im so unsure if Moyes is the right person to bring in the right players I move a little more to what Richie Sadlier says. I agree that Moyes has not put hes stamp on the team jet, and to do that you dont have to wait to see what players that will be bought. You can still influence the team even if you dont have the right players. The team right now seems uninspired and tired. Will this change? Maybe. Do I want to shift manager if the right one comes along? Yes. Do I want to keep Moyes instead of a short term solution? Yes.

I agree with Sadlier here, there's a massive risk leaving millions in the hands of a manager that might not be competent to spend that money wisely. Let's not forget David O'Leary, if ever there was someone who single-handedly dismantled a club, it was that guy. If you give Moyes time, on evidence, you have to drop expectations. Which is very close to a drop in standards. No club can afford this kind of decline

Why do they keep saying he didnt have time to sign players? That is not true. He had time, but Man Utd tried to sign players they have very little chance of getting (Cesc, Thiago) and wasted all their time with that. When that inevitably failed, their back up plans were non-existent. Plus, why didnt sign Garay or another defender? why didnt they sign Baines or whichever leftback they were linked to. They had plenty of time to so, and again in Jan...they did nothing.

John Giles saying he moved into the job late, it was confirmed on the 9th May last year that Moyes would take over from Ferguson the 2012-13 season had not yet finished,saying that Moyes had loads of time to decide who he wanted and bring them in, he didn't take the opportunity, And also the performance and body language shown by the players indicates they don't want to play for him he doesn't inspire them, isn't that how a manager earns his money?, I here people say give him time it's a transitional season,yes it was always going to be hard replacing Ferguson but a manager who takes over the champions and takes them down to 7th is evidence that he (moyes) is out of his depth. The fans know he's lost the dressing room but I don't think he had it in the 1st place. Why should the players respect someone who uses outdated tactics, can say his greatest achievement at his previous club was finishing 4th, no real experience of managing in the UCL and NO trophies the mans a liability and can't handle the big names, then again handing Rooney a new deal worth 300k a week shows he isn't ruthless at all, Also a brilliant debate ITV pundits should take note

I'm honestly a bit surprised those two guys are talking that much crap. DAvid Moyes has had enough time to show that he's in charge at Man Utd and he knows where he wants to go. Whether players are performing poorly or not it doesn't negate the fact that he's made some illogical decisions as a manager so far. Why on earth would you let him dismantle a team of former champions just to see if he maybe gets things right. And if he doesn't what then, you've lost all the experience you would have had(noticeably a lot less since he got rid of the former coaches and what not when he came) and now you're back at square one, new manager who needs to bring his own new team in order to produce a competent managerial display. Rubbish

Don't mean to be a stickler. But if instead of Moyes being there' there was a Spanish/Italian coach or some other nationality losing like he has done they would have gone in January. I mean you have to look at the facts Moyes has coached in the premier league for how long now? There are no excuses. He is doing worse than he would have done with Everton and yet he is coaching better players. The worst effect i could have imagined under Moyes would be like what happened to Barca after Pep left. they weren't the same team but they were still competitive. i am an Arsenal fan but I wouldn't blow air in ManU Fan's ears and say they should give him time. Look what happened to Liverpool or Newcastle for goodness sake. Football is not the same as it was when Ferguson came. Time will tell but i will be shocked if the big guys in ManU will sit around to watch the walls come falling down around them. I think right now they are already looking for someone else. Rooney's massive contract should be a sign they wont allow this to happen for long.

The two gentlemen talking about the weakness of the squad are absolutely laughable, especially Mr. John Giles, who keeps spouting "He hasn't had a chance to bring his own players in!". Well, Manchester United could just swap shirts with Everton then, those were his players, weren't they? And this nonsense that this squad isn't good enough... Nobody, and I mean nobody, said a word about this squad not being good enough when Ferguson was in charge. Against Real Madrid, one of the great teams in the world, this squad held their own, and could've won the bout just as well. I remember how everyone and his neighbour were praising the squad then, the mixture of youthfulness and experience, the balance in the team and so forth... David Moyes doesn't have a single quality that suggests he should still be in the job. To prove that, I'll ask a simple question. Let's say that the squad isn't "good" enough to win the league, despite the fact the same squad, minus Mata, Januzaj and Fellaini won it with 11 points last year... Is the squad not good enough to challenge for the top 4 at least? Is the squad not better than at least Everton's squad? Than Tottenham's squad? Than Arsenal's squad? And since when does a manager need to bring in a bunch of new players? Should we not at least demand that Moyes should do better with the squad he's already got? Give me a break.

For 11 mins, the people defending Moyes only have ONE thing to say - let him buy the players he wants before judging him. It's like saying: It's not Moyes' fault that Ferdinand and RvP have gone out of control, it's not Moyes' fault that the team is falling apart, it's also not Moyes' fault that he failed to bring in 'the players he wants' even though he's got 2 windows to do so, even though he's also splashed out 70m, he's also changed most(if not all) of the staffs. How many managers in the league other than Moyes at united you think will have that kind of money/time/opportunity to do all that? That's right, zero. Even if Moyes is going to bring success to the team in the unknown future, this year will be a heavy dent in United's reputation as Europe's elite and England's dominant force that they've built with blood and sweat for the past 2 decades. Look at Liverpool and you'll know how long it took them to crawl out of this black hole.

Moyes shouldn't be given "carte blanche" until he gets "his team", that view is moronic. This squad won the league last year and when you speak about giving him time to put his stamp on the team, what's his stamp? for 10 years at everton nothing stood out about them besides being a good mid-table team. Not to mention Pellegrini & Mourinho came in at the same time and the changes are noticeable. Moyes made us regress, he is out of his depth.

Richie Sadlier is totally right how can trust David Moyes with money if he can even lift the current squad. Like Richie said Moyes have put a stamp on this team. This team is unrecognizable from last year. His two players he have bought haven't done anything for the team. Why would you let him spend even more money... United should have gone with a big name to replace Sir Alex. Because a trainer like Moyes will never get the respect of the squad because they will judge his qualities. United should get Lious van Gaal he will lift the squad and he has put his stamp on any team he ever coached.

The guy on the left spoke a huge load of nonsense. What, he needs to be judged AFTER bringing his own players ? Well he did just that, he brought Fellaini ! He's given the riches to sign the world's top players and the only players on his shopping list are Baines and f****** Fellaini. I think that alone spoke volumes about how bad the season was going to be. And if you want analogies with others, well here are a few : 1) Guardiola moved to Bayern virtually the same time as Moyes, brought in Thiago Alcantara. Squad virtually unchanged except for Gomez and Gustavo leaving. Heynckes won the Treble with Bayern just before, Guardiola has won the league in 9 months, and Bayern are unbeaten in the league. 2) Ancelotti moved to Madrid from PSG, same time as Moyes, was able to buy Isco, Illaramendi, Bale and Carvajal (amongst others, Bale was not really needed but Perez wanted him at all costs). The core of the squad is still essentially the same. Real are in contention for the CL and in la Liga. Neither needed to overhaul the squad completely or "put their stamp" to use those commentators words. The good managers can work with what they have, they'd work better if they brought their own players obviously but they'd still work out a strategy and tactics that suit his squad and players. It's a fact that Moyes knows nothing about football at this level and there's no evidence whatsoever to suggest that he deserves time and money to do that. Moyes' only stamp is that of mid table mediocrity, and that has been evident since October 2013. The debate was interesting though, but the guy on the left would get ripped to shreds if he tried defending Moyes any further.

when they speak about the word STAMP the man mentioning it is speaking about the STYLE of football, in what direction is manchester united going on and off the pitch right now? There is no style or plan towards anything it looks very very poor right now and Moyes looks completely clueless. His media handling is poor, poor squad and formation selection, a happy camp last season has turned into a sour one bar Wayne Rooney on 300k a week, Juan Mata has been bought and expecte to perform magic OUT of his position and the 27m summer signing fellaini gets put on the bench for an away champions league game? I honestly have no idea what Moyes is thinking and any other manager would have been sacked three times by now. ALL the managers at other top teams get given a few months, as soon as it goes wrong and they lose the dressing room, they get shown the door.

awesome. love the accents. i'm in agreement - moyes is not the man going forward. after last night's 0-3 to liverpool, moyes has a squad of 20 odd players completely broken and drained. how can they look at the man leading them and think 'he will take us out of this'. he doesn't properly utilize the players. he's not tactically adept enough to know how to use a mata in tandem with rooney and rvp. his tactics in europe and against the big teams are wrong. what if we sign kroos? gundogan? moyes won't know how to get the best out of them. half of being a manager is man management. ferguson was the master of that and moyes is very clearly not. lack of confidence is destroying the players and it won't change unless they can look at the managerial group and think, 'these guys can take us forward.'

"The only way and a club with less talent can win is if they out work the better club." - Jimmy Murphy (paraphrased) Too often this season United was out worked. They lack the needed desire against lesser clubs. I don't care what anybody says, but no way Everton has a better group of players than United.

so first allow him to spend £100+ million, totally rip up the squad, then if he's still shite get someone else in who wants to do the same? na. just appoint someone who has a clue to begin with. tho i am enjoying his reign as a non-utd fan.

Put yourself in the glazers shoes.. Based on moyes's accomplishments this season would you trust him with £200million and risk not being in the champions league for 2 seasons running..... No you wouldn't stop worrying he will be gone at the end of the season the glazers love money and hate losing it

Martinez, Mourinho didn't need time. Everton in fact look a better proposition without Moyes. Martinez has not really acquired many signings at all. In fact his main signing (not Lukaku), who's name eludes me has been injured for some time now. Everton fans are already a happier bunch 9 months on! Martinez brings authority and motivation to those players. Moyes has bought nothing but a poor work ethic and a lack of passion.

Ferguson was a special manager.. He could win a league with a decent squad.. There are no other managers like him in the history of football.. Even managers like mourinho who is supposedly "special" I bet would never win the league with the squad we had yesterday.. From the games i've seen.. I see it's mostly the players fault.. Ferdinand needs to leave, vidic is leaving as well, evra out.. Cleverly please go.. Young out.. Rvp out.. I like him but he's old now.. Kagawa ehhh out just because they are wasting his talent.. Nani probably out as well..

Moyes is not the man for the job. No other business would just give the top job to someone on the say so of the outgoing boss. Its insane. Moyes has no pedigree that warrants his appointment. No amount of debating this issue to death changes that simple truth. It really is as simple as that.
