I have a charcoal corduroy jacket that I'm very fond of this time of year. It works with almost everything and it's warmer than my suit jackets. Great video. Thanks for posting!

Hi Wilbert, glad you enjoyed the video and you are right about a corduroy jacket being warmer than suit jackets, although they are at different levels of formality. Corduroy jackets are however, great in the colder periods of the year and grey is a great colour to choose, thanks for your comments 👍🙂

This is an excellent, well research, discussion. 👍 The on-screen numbered headings define each element that you talk about, while the extensive use of punctuating images, showing the different colours and styles of both types of fabric, had me hitting the pause button to take in the myriad of alternative colourful outfit ideas. I have not worn corduroy for a long time but it is now definitely on my radar because of the greater colour range on offer and the increased marketing by the different men's outfitters. Personally, I find tweed more versatile because of the range of colours within each individual garment's weave. I have been able to create 3-4 different outfits for each tweed jacket by picking out a particular colour from the jacket's weave pattern and making that the main theme for other colours to go with it. Being creative with the garments we wear is what sets a well-dressed man apart from the crowd...and it is fun too.😊

Thank you John, for the wonderful feedback! 😊 It's great to hear that the numbered headings and images helped you dive into the colourful options and creative outfit ideas. I love hearing that they made you want to hit pause and take it all in! Your point about tweed's versatility is spot-on; I totally agree with the principal of picking out those colours from the weave, it does really open up endless styling possibilities. And you’re absolutely right, being creative with our clothing does make it so much more fun and adds that personal flair to what we wear. I hope corduroy surprises you as much as tweed has. Thanks again for your thoughtful insights; it’s feedback like yours that makes these discussions so rewarding. 😊

Corduroy vs Tweed. What a wonderful rabbit hole to go down. I have one Corduroy jacket but many tweed ones. As child, I wore corduroy pants but never really liked it. I wear more flannel or woolen pants in Fall and Winter. I clearly prefer Tweed because of the versatility with the patterns and the weaving. A few years ago, I wanted to find out how much I can keep warm in a Tweed jacket. I made an experiment with one of my tweed sport coats. I walked to the nearest grocery store during a winter day while it was 0 degrees Celsius / 34 degrees Fahrenheit. I wore an undershirt and a dress shirt underneath the jacket. I walked with my normal gait which is characterized by walking with purpose and a fast pace. I arrived after 10 minutes and felt fine. One the way back, I started to sweat and had to reduce my walking speed and unbuttoned the jacket. Tweed is designed to keep you warm, and it does the job very well. Thank you for the great video Chris. It is always a joy to watch your great content.

I wear tweed jackets during the winter and have come to the same conclusion. Most of the time I can wear a tweed jacket with a lightweight Merino wool sweater and tie and I am quite comfortable. A hat is a must as well.

Hi Kay, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Glad you enjoyed the video and what a great experiment, it's fascinating how tweed performs so well in keeping you warm, even during a brisk walk in chilly weather. I love how you tested it in real conditions, practical and stylish. I can definitely see why you'd prefer tweed, especially with its range of patterns and textures. I’m curious, do you have a favourite type of tweed? Do you think after all those years ago from being a child wearing corduroy trousers (pants) that you have now warmed to the idea of wearing more now, you mentioned you have a corduroy jacket, do you wear it frequently or rarely?🙂
@kaykunz47302 ай бұрын
@@TheBritishDapper Hi Chris, I do not think so that I will wear corduroy pants ever. I do not like it, even not now as adult. I wear my corduroy jacket once to twice a week. I really like the khaki color, and the fit is perfect. My favorite tweeds are Harris Tweed and Donegal Tweed. I have one jacket of each kind. All my other jackets are no-names tweeds if you want to call it that way.
@TheBritishDapper2 ай бұрын
@@kaykunz4730 So corduroy trousers are a no no. It sounds like you are getting a great deal of wear out of the corduroy jacket and making good use of tweed. There are many different tweeds out there, but you mention 2 of my personal favourites.🙂

Good stuff, Chris. Cord and tweed two of my favourites! I've noticed corduroy is very popular this year! Interestingly, Cordings have a range cut across the wale, so are horizontal rather than the usual vertical!
@TheBritishDapper2 ай бұрын
Hi Yoric, great to hear from you and glad you enjoyed the video. Corduroy has been growing in popularity over the passed couple of years and especially in the wearing of corduroy suits. Interesting that Cordings have introduced a range of horizontal wale trousers, I not sure what to think about them, they are a little more fashion rather then traditional for me, but I'm not closed to the idea of them, time will tell if the are more popular the the traditional vertical wale designs 🙂

For me it's not a matter of Vs so much as how to put these fabric types together. Corduroy provides a solid block of colour whereas tweed provides more subtle blends. you can easily use say corduroy trousers to highlight a colour in tweed within a classic country style outfit and adding a waistcoat in either type of fabric adds to the possibilities. Moleskin provides yet another option in terms of texture, drape, colour and shading into the potential mix though this can be a little stiff, as do tweed, knitted silk or grenadine and tartan ties, and country check shirts. Taken together, this provides what for me is the greatest opportunity to enjoy putting colour and texture together for a more colourful colder months look. Generally, I find tweed jackets over corduroy trousers are most comfortable due to the qualities of stiffness, give and drapability of each cloth. There are also more options around shoes and leather type within this county style approach to dressing. So, mix it up I say, not choose one or tother. Much more fun than dressing for formality or the city!

Hi Henry, glad you enjoyed the video and I love how you’ve broken down the interplay of fabrics like corduroy, tweed, and even moleskin. It’s true that mixing these textures and colours opens up so many possibilities for creating a classic yet interesting look, especially for the colder months. It's great to hear that you thought about how corduroy could highlight a colour in the tweed. Your idea of adding a waistcoat is a great way to layer both style and warmth. Do you have a favourite combination of these fabrics that you find yourself wearing often? And I agree the countryside style of dressing that really does bring out the fun in putting together an outfit, especially with the variety of shoes or boots and accessories that fit into the mix. 🙂👍
@henrybenrycat12 ай бұрын
@@TheBritishDapper , in answer to your question, I guess my favourite combination is a tweed jacket with contrast overcheck in earthy browns and greens with either a single contrast colour burgundy melton or an olive green moleskin waistcoat. These are typically teamed with either heavy corduroy, cotton twill, moleskin or textured wool trousers in a green shade. Greens are more challenging to put together because we see more shades of it but got right, looks wonderful for the country pub for Sunday lunch. I tend to wear well-polished brogues in brown or oxblood. An alternative is my navy blue with subtle tan overcheck Harris Tweed jacket with an old and very red melton waistcoat, a textured mostly blue with red spot tie, and a blue oxford shirt. The red is strong but not overpowering and provides a really sharp contrast that brings this outfit to life. Dark blue textured wool trousers and black polished brogues complete this outfit. This provides a somewhat more formal take that I feel I can get away with at meetings.

Corduroy has been my goto trousers for non hot months for some years, as comfy as tracksuit bottoms, smarter than jeans, I've recently bought more tweed jackets, very warm whereas before I hard one tweed, one corduroy. I love both

Hi James, glad you enjoyed the video. That sounds like a perfect balance. Corduroy trousers really do hit that sweet spot between comfort and style, definitely smarter than jeans but just as easy to wear. And tweed jackets are such a great choice for warmth and versatility, especially now that you’ve expanded your collection. Do you have a favourite combination when it comes to pairing your corduroy trousers with your tweed jackets? It sounds like you've got the ideal wardrobe for cooler months 👍🙂

@@TheBritishDapper well at the minute I typically where the tweed jackets with corduroy trousers, and the corduroy jackets with jeans or wintery chinos (different textures, the jeans obviously dressing the ensemble down slightly, but not much as I still have on at least Chelsea's and normally a collared shirt). I personally find corduroy & corduroy too much, but maybe I should be more adventurous, what do you think? It would be good to hear others opinions.

@@jamesswingland3373 Hi there, the combinations you mention sound great, the use of Chelsea boots and collared shirt keeps it smart casual. I understand what you mean about corduroy & corduroy, but recently their has been a real shift in this regard and the corduroy suit is really high profile at the moment, I think the colour used and the formality of the occasion to wea one could be a factor. But there are some fantastic double breasted, peaked lapel versions available that are really eye catching - something to consider🙂
