Acrylic Artist Debbie Arnold shows you Step by Step how to create texture using recycled plastic wrap and Joe's Prime Lightfast Acrylics (bit.ly/IrRwaS). Debbie applies acrylic paint mixed with acrylic matte medium to a Joe's Prime Extra Deep Canvas (bit.ly/ItJX2a). Debbie uses the Liquitex Free Style Large Palette Knives (bit.ly/IM1cyL) to move the paints around on the canvas. See just how easy it is to use this process to begin an intuitive painting.

I love this technique and though I have done the plastic wrap technique I never thought to use more then two colors. Duh. Now I will. What does blowing on the plastic do that the brayer and books won't do?

I would need to see the initial stages to be able to use these ideas....love it tho'!!....Does the acrylic plus medium make the film in itself or have you used a film as a base???....I shall have to experiment!....Been out to get a plasticky cellophane material today and also an oven non-stick mat to see if either will work!!....Would be useful to share the resources fully...but thanks for the inspiration...Jane

nice video, where you say very strong texture on the first canvas and say you can create dramatic effects with water, can you tell a bit more about it, pl. how do you go about doing that ?

I guess I used the wrong kind of plastic -- it was white and little bumpy, and it totally stuck to the paint on my paper. When I pulled it off, it took some of the paint and even some of the paper with it. :( Gonna try again with plastic wrap.

4:06 is when she really gets "painting" for those who got impatient, like myself. I don't mind the details, but I think that could have been done in the description box.

Warning: Learn from my mistakes! :-) Cheap shower curtains did not work! Not even if they are shiny and smooth and properly stretched tight without wrinkles. Liquitex pouring medium will GLUE itself to the shower curtain and will NOT remove. It could be that shower curtains/liners I used have some kind of acrylic or latex-like component to them that makes the Liquitex bond to them. Also, make SURE to mix the pouring medium with paint. Some types of liquid acrylic paint will pool to the top of the leveling gel in a flat mat finish with very little marbling effect (looks as if you painted on top of the dried pouring medium).I believe the paints Debbie uses are liquid paints specifically for pouring. Liquid acrylics designed for painting may not work well at all. The best results I obtained were from mixing pouring medium with paint dyes in small squeeze bottles. Wonderful flowing effects and color were obtained from these. I will try to salvage the botched pours that glued to the shower curtains. Even though the pouring lines and marbling were minimal, leveling gel on top of them (for a flat glass like finish) glued to small canvases will hopefully make some interesting tiles.

the medium shes talking about is just stuff you add to your paint to make it more vibrant, spread better, last longer (doesnt dry out as fast because acrylic dries very fast) etc. Its like and opaque white liquid. It kinda looks like glue and kinda is. its called gesso. you want gesso that extends ur paint. not gesso to prime your canvas
