Debbie Reynolds dies day after daughter Carrie Fisher's death

Debbie Reynolds, a star from Hollywood's golden age, died Wednesday in Los Angeles. She had lost her daughter, actress and author Carrie Fisher, just the day before. Reynolds made her name in "Singing in the Rain," and her career in the spotlight lasted more than 60 years. Kevin Frazier of "Entertainment Tonight" reports.

I know the feeling. My cousin passed away 4 years ago we were best friends did everything together went to the same school went everywhere together for 37 years , he had a heart attack on the freeway a day before his daughter's birthday. He pulled over people say he got out the car and dropped and that was it. Nobody cried as hard as i did at the funeral , I took it pretty hard I couldn't stop crying for weeks I even thought of hanging myself just so we can be together again til this day he pops in my head and tears just fall believe me I under stand this pain.

What are the odds that a parent and a child would die within a day of each other of unexpected natural causes? I think it's more likely for a parent and child to have the same birthday. My late grandmother had the same birthday as my uncle (November 5), but died the same day as my grandfather (February 23) 50 years later.

stress-induced cardiomyopathy or takotsubo cardiomyopathy is the technical name for a 'broken heart.' You see when you have this a part of your heart temporarily enlarges and doesn’t pump well, while the rest of your heart functions normally or with even more forceful contractions. Unlike a heart attack there is no blocked arteries (sp?). Broken heart syndrome can lead to severe, short-term heart muscle failure which can cause death. Most people who experience it make a full recovery within weeks, and they’re at low risk for it happening again. However, those who are older or very young can have more severe reactions to this which can raise the likelihood of death. This is why older people tend to die not long after their spouse.
