I've been looking at so many watercolor tutorials lately, that I was becoming "confussed!" However, I seem to get the most and more informative info from your teaching approach. Im so glad I was able to help. It can be very confusing cant it? Even for myself still. Ive painted watercolors for all of my life (60 in August) and there are so many techniques, thoughts, supplies it can be very overwhelming. I keep hearing this so I think I may do a tutorial on how to get started with a simple set of supplies, paper, brushes and paint. Im so glad you are trying watercolors, and I have a feeling you will be a natural!

Your are welcome, You have already made the discovery then of how many fun things these brushes can do. I agree the sword brushes hold a little too much water for me, and are less springy and snappy! They are good for washes I suppose. What is your favorite to paint with them? The leaves or the flowers? You too and I hopo to one day have a weekend workshop in FL, what fun would that be! So many places I want to travel to and meet you all!

Your leaves and flowers are stunning. And you’re doing it all with your dagger. I just got a new 3/4 in dagger. I hope I can do all of this with my new dagger. I’ve been a beginner for over 30 years. I have so many supplies, brushes, pigments. And every time I watch a new to me video, I have to buythe products that artist is using. I have a second room in my house and I made it my studio. But that didn’t feel right on my tongue. One day I called it my heart room or my play room. I feel happy when I’m in here, there is no critic in this space

I LOVE playing with a dagger as well as an angle brush, especially double loading them. Once you get the feel for it you will love it and it will come naturally. Wonderful, that is how I feel exactly when I go into my studio. It feels right, like home, as soon as I get behind my desk, I forget all else. I couldn't be happier to hear that friend. Happy painting! I've been painting my entire life, and still learn new things :-) Most of all have fun xo

I have the dagger brush and used it a little bit. It was really nice to see how you use it. I used it on landscapes for trees but not for flowers. Will have to give it a go. Today I’m going to practice some flowers. You make it look so easy. I can do landscapes all day but flowers seem hard . 🙈

Yes, interesting I have used it over the years for some flowers, I have wildflowers i paint with them to dipping the end in a different color to get an "ombre" affect. I will do a short video on it for you all. You are amazing at the Plein Air~ It can be challenging setting up and painting outside cant it! For me anyway. At the same time so much fun. Hi Pat, Yes, that can happen, maybe the brush is a bit dry? also another possibility is, when you are done using it, make sure to squeeze out all the water and reshape it, laying it flat to dry in the correct shape :-) Last tip, make sure you are not getting pigment down in the Ferrell this can lead to the hairs splitting and separating. Have fun!

Welcome to my world Nadine! When I go to bed at night and its quiet, I all of a sudden starting getting all these thoughts and ideas about painting! I have to get up many times and paint a little something or it drives me crazy. All my good ideas for you all come at night. When I was working on commissions and boutique lines full time, I would stay up at night painting till wee hours of the am creating some of my best pieces! Hi Reeflections. I thought about that too, and paused a moment thinking about it after I painted the palm. It would definitely be great for pine trees! I have used this brush for sweet peas several times, which is interesting it works so well. My pleasure, and I agree it is a very calming beautiful color mixed with the blues and yellows isnt it. I also find painting flowy slow leaves is very relaxing in the evening. Happy painting friend!

It is definitely one of my favorite brushes, but I do have some fun with it. Im very comfortable and confident using my round brushes! These do make botanicals somewhat effortless especially leaves!

I was practicing tonight with my cat's tongue brushes. My dagger brushes were out, the next to be used, so this is perfect timing! Daggers make the most beautiful unique leaves, yours turned out gorgeous!! I have a problem making the leaves on the left side of the stem, the right side is easy! 🤷‍♀️ I don't think I would like a sword brush, it looks like you don't have much control at all! A dagger is hard enough for me! 😂

I’m so happy to hear you practicing and playing. Daggers make leaves effortless don’t they? It’s funny I have to think about it more making leaves with my Dagger on the right. I e noticed it is a common challenge when teaching as well, we all favor one side! I have to go slow and warm up and be mindful to create the brushstroke correctly ! Happy painting friend . Yes, I am not particularly fond of the sword maybe I need to work with it a bit more to become friends.

I have a Royal and Langnickel (great handle) and a few of Kristi Rice’s, They look more like a dagger than a sword and are firm. Is the Princeton firm?

Good morning! It is the best kind of morning for me to do just that AbracaDebra! and Yes, how fun would that be every Saturday. I mean i pretty much do, I'm just not videoing it. LOL You will have to share which ones you like best, i like them a little firmer, that's why I don't like the longer ones, a sword. The Princeton Neptune is not real firm, but very good. I like the way it responds, and hold a ton of water! So easy to create those thick lines and washes and then move into a very fine line! Its like the magic brush. I look forward to hearing about the Royal, Langnickel and Kristi Rice's!

Hi! Yes the Dagger brush is a lot of fun, and the best for creating leaves. I like your work. Not crazy about the nail colors as often distracting, especially when some are mixed colors or 1 nail not painted. All I can see is thumb nail with 0 paint, bright green short nails and I think 1 pale pink. Sit where we are

That isnt a norm for me to have one nail upainted. Im also newer here still and have learned since that such things would be noticed and mentioned occassionally. Learned a lot in a year. Happy painting or singing friend.
