The trilene knot is just so awesome I'm surprised it's not more famous. The skipper of my fishing boat taught it to me as a deckie over 25 years ago and I've been using it ever since. It's just so quick and easy to tie it, and never slips. I've even tested it myself and it definitely holds more weight than any other. Try it and see. It's just a simple clinch knot but you start it with a double pass rather than just a single.

Yes this is the only knot I use also. Never had it fail on me. From using 10lb test to 40lb leader I use the same know. I usually wrap it 5x with smaller line and 3-4 depending on how big the knot looks if I use like 60lb fluro for sharks. Works great just harder to get it nice and flush with thicket line

I have broke a catfish hook before breaking the knot, straightened a bass hook, and broke the top section of my pole and had to cut the line because the knot would not break. so if these other knots are stronger then i better break trees down and shatter rocks then lol

Thumbs up to the Trilene knot. I once fought a Tyee chinook salmon in a harsh tide rip off Vancouver Island, then at the end had to crank it in hard to avoid the hungry mouth of a sea lion trying to steal my prize. Trilene knot withstood it!

Yeah i use only palomar too, because i use braid line without any mono/fluoro leader. Never had that knot loosen off. Such a good knot.

I fished when I was in med school in the 60's... but don't remember much..except liking spinning rods. Great video on knots, of which I have no memory, and your budget rigs video. Keep up the good work! I subscribed I'm about 5 minutes from Hoover Reservoir - caught 17 walleyes one day there (the only time I ever caught anything at Hoover); also caught a LOT of big catfish at Buckeye Lake one night with my barber...his wife could really cook, too! Hoover is supposed to have catfish & bass now.

Great video! I'm similar and, unless I'm rigging something special like a snell hook, I really only use 2 knots: the trilene knot for mono and fluoro, and the palomar knot for braid. I know people still like to use clinch knots and improved clinch knots, but there's really no reason not to switch from either of those to a trilene knot that I can think of, for the reasons you mentioned. In fact, from what I can recall, the trilene knot was itself specifically developed in order to replace the improved clinch knot.

My parents taught me the trilene knot 30 years ago and I fished it exclusively for 25 years with no issues whatsoever. Learned the palomar knot just a few years back and I use it exclusively on straight braid froggin, jiggin and other large swimbaits or any mono/flouro over 10lb test. A well tied, well lubricated trilene knot never failed me for 20 plus years on sub 12lb test mono though.

Thanks. Since I started fishing I used the improved clinch knot. I just accepted that the tag would gather junk, so I'd just pinch and pull it off. I'm changing to the Trilene knot hoping to avoid the trash gathering, pinch and pull to remove that trash.

Great instructional video. It doesn't matter which knot you tie, as far as strength goes. 99.99% of the time, it isn't the knot that breaks or comes loose. The line breaks within 1'-3' above the knot. The key is to strip a few feet and re-tie after each catch.

I’m want a compilation of very close up footage of complicating knots or simple like this, of various lines or cordage being used, but ONLY the sliding lines final moment. Am I the only one that thinks the tightening barrels is so oddly fascinating and beautiful?

Hey Debo, never been a fan of the Palomar with fluoro. I tend to use the Uni most often regardless of line type, followed by the San Diego jam or improved clinch. I only use the FG for braid to leader connection.

I tie the Palomar on my frogs but for just about everything else, recently, I've been tying the Uni-knot. I feel like it's an easy and quick knot and it hasn't failed me yet, as long as I thoroughly lubricate the line before I sinch the knot down.
