Hours ago I was out on the water and the fishing sucked. I only caught a few average sized pickerel. The water felt pretty cold, and the lake was about a foot or so lower. For a little while I did throw around a lipless on a ML, without any results. Right after I bought that lipless, I replaced the trebles with #6 inline hooks. I have 10 pound braid on the combo I used it on. Earlier this year, I landed a decent bass on a small 1/8 oz rat L trap. The bait casting rod I used for that is a 5'6" UL rod. The bend is mostly in the top part of that rod,and seems to have some backbone. I had 5 pound braid on that one, and the fish was hooked real good. I struggle to locate fish this time of year, after everything turns over. I'm looking for a rod for a heavier setup, that has a good bend, but could handle 5/8 oz spinnerbaits,and jigs. I have a tatula CT on an old berkley lightning rod, and the thing is stiff, and feels like I'm fishing a broomstick. It doesn't seem to cast as far as my BFS setups, even though I'm throwing a heavier bait. The rod is a medium but rated for 1/4-1 oz. It feels like a medium heavy. Any ideas?
@DEBOSFishing6 жыл бұрын
I would stay with a medium heavy rod but go to a moderate fast action. A longer rod will also help if you're looking to get more distance. The moderate fast action will give you more tip flexibility and help load the lure for casts. Hope this helps man!

@@DEBOSFishing sounds good, I actually pulled the trigger last night, on a piscifun torrent MH 2 piece moderate-fast 7" rod. I decided to get this 7 foot 2 piece rod instead of the 6'10" so I could easily fit it in my dads pickup truck. The amazon page says it's a worm rod, but it has the pretty much the same ratings as their 6'10" spinner bait rod, except the 7 foot 2 piece rod is rated from 3/16- 3/4 oz instead of 1/4-3/4. So it might have a softer tip than the 6'10" one. It should handle 5/8 oz spinner baits ok I'd think. I'm going to be using straight braid on it, so I won't need to do strong hook sets. Braid with a rod that has a good bend = good self hook sets, except if they bite it right at your feet. Last month I briefly cast a 5/8 oz spinner bait for awhile with my Abu Garcia xross field 6'6" medium light + revo ALC BF7, and that bait felt real heavy for that rod. Nothing broke, plus me and a friend both caught a decent bass each on it. Since then I decided I wanted to put together a normal heavier bass setup. Friday I should have the rod in hand, and get to play around with it.

i like to do a lot of crappie fishing, the place where i fish for them isnt accessible by boat or anything (its rock pit with steep walls) i have to toss baits pretty far. i use a 7'6" rod, but wouldnt suggest it to people unless they really need the distance. the combo has braid main line with a leader so i dont worry about the line stretching so much that the hooks dont set.
