I'm a protestant, and I think you came out a lot better in that debate. It definitely sparked me thinking about the issue again. I'm trying to take a historical approach, tracing the evolution of how the doctrine was developed. This is hard because I feel like a lot of people import their own perspectives into how it was developed; assuming that people meant what writer believes rather than taking it and it's context as it was.

Alonzo Muncy, I just want to say at least you are thinking about it a little bit. I was born Catholic. In my teens, I strayed away from my Church due to being extremely poorly catechized. I tried being a Protestant for a bit, but I found my way home. My point is, take some time, do the research, think about it. Most importantly get information from reliable sources. I still enjoy learning about other faith backgrounds and religions, but I would never ask a Muslim about the Jewish faith or a fellow Catholic about the Mormon faith etc.. Go to the source. Jimmy and Catholic Answers is a great starting point. Get a Catechism book. Read a little bit. Prayers your way on your faith journey, whichever you decide. ❤️

Jimmy Akin is absolutely brilliant! Biblical and historical! The other Paul claims Rome teaches another Gospel. Yet, the other Paul has absolutely no clue what the True Gospel is, as Scripture ALONE is infallible! Amazing work Jimmy! Thank you for your defense of Truth! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is true food and Blood true drink

I love the debates and especially yours and Trent's debriefs. It's like a look into the metadebate.

I wish I could have asked the Other Paul about his epistemic claims that there is a difference in knowledge between what the generation of Irenaeus had and what the generation of the Tome of Leo had or the Council of Trent.

And on what basis does the other paul trust the accuracy of scripture? He kept saying Sola Scriptura is all we have left, but how does he know we can trust the written word to be accurate?

What is the point of a “divinely guided” magisterium if not to prevent teaching error?

I know you don't consider it "truth-focused" enough, but I still believe that it's a persuasive argument to appeal to the Apostle Paul's assertions in his letters about the unchallengeable teaching authority possessed by Timothy and Titus derived from the succession of apostle to bishop through the laying on of hands. In these letters, Paul also commends first his own oral traditions and then Scripture as well as the teaching authority. These verses directly addressed the debate topic of authority sources, the Magisterium, and the transition from apostolic to post-apostolic. " *Command and teach* these things. Let no one despise your youth.... Do not neglect *the gift* you have, which was given you by prophetic utterance when the council of elders *laid their hands upon you.* " “ *What you heard from me* through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will have the ability to teach others as well.” "...continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, *knowing from whom you learned it* and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings...." “ *You must say what is consistent with sound doctrine* …. Say these things. Exhort and *correct with all authority.* Let no one look down on you.”

The main issue I had with The Other Paul was he admitted the apostolic paradigm still existed, but it's not the Catholic one. Well where is it found then?

Jimmy, have you seen the debate review between TOP and scholastic answers? What do you think are some good arguments against his more refined views he made in the debate review, since he wasnt that clear in the debate itself

Just on a stylistic note, I didn’t care for Paul referring to Jimmy only by his last name. It seemed disrespectful and came off as an attempt to dismiss him. Not classy.

Only concerned with who is boss. Luke 22 25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. 26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

Isn't it important to point out that many oral apostolic traditions WERE WRITTEN DOWN by the Church fathers in the first couple centuries?? Isn't that what you implicitly did when you referred to the Didache? At some point, didn't all such traditions get written down? If TOP admits that the Didachist or Irenaeus still had access to oral apostolic traditions (living memory), then once they write them down, aren't those traditions now preserved for future generations? For us moderns, there is an intuitive epistemological superiority to script vs oral tradition. I don't see why we have to concede to the impression that the oral traditions didn't get written down until several centuries later. Pointing out that the ancients didn't have this intuition is fine, but still leaves value on the table when you audience in full of modern people.
