I have never liked my house and it is a very small house. We raised our two children here and now they are grown. We paid off our house over two years ago. Suddenly, I not only don’t hate my house so much. In fact I’m quite content. When people ask how I can cook in such a small kitchen, I tell them that a lot of great meals have come out of this little kitchen. Being mortgage free is the best feeling in the world! My husband got laid off just before Christmas and is being forced into early retirement. If our house wasn’t paid for, this would be devastating. We feel like we can totally do this. I love this feeling! Congratulations! You are a great source of inspiration!

Congratulations! I went through the same thing, kids grown, retired (and husband immediately became completely disabled) so it was a Blessing that we worked as hard as we did and paid it off!, some friends said "you should have bought a bigger house, you need a minimum of three bedrooms and a two car garage for resale"!! and we did not, we have been here almost thirty years and house is 850sq ft with two small bedrooms and one car garage and it is "just right" the husband was thinking ahead when we bought it....all one level, no steps (one step up to door) a small front porch with a bench, and he said he was thinking about when we were older, and thank goodness for that! and I have tried and tried to get my two kids to buy a home and they refuse, one lives in a 1bdr apt and pays $900 monthly!!! and that is more than my house payment was, they say they like renting and having a landlord who is a phone call away to fix everything, and I said "do you want to be retired, and having to pay a big chunk of your Social Security every month for rent" that would scare me to pieces! I hear all the bad stories of seniors having to pay rent and utilities and live on foodbank and donations......

Good for the two of you. We sold our house of 20 years last summer and have been living in our RV all winter. We are buying a home right next-door to my mother-in-law and have paid cash for it. I am moving there next week. Hubby is coming in a few months. Admittedly, I have never been inside this house, but we’ve known the owners for over 40 years. What a relief to be able to move, knowing that we are still debt-free. Congratulations Bill and Elizabeth!

I’m getting antsy to be mortgage free. I tell myself only a few more months but can hardly wait. Just want that feeling of not owning money. I’ve always been a saver and pay for what I buy in cash like furniture and new appliances so I have no credit card debt.. can’t wait to say “It’s paid for”

When I was 10 (back in 1996) my Dad passed suddenly from cancer. My Mom was left with 3 daughters (14, 14, 10) and was able to use his life insurance to pay off the house. I remember what relief that gave her, and she continues to live in that same home today. My husband and I purchased our first home last year, and I was amazed how just a little extra can make such a huge difference to paying the mortgage down more quickly. It seems so daunting when you see the number at first! Congratulations on being debt free again!

Just that little change can take a months worth of payment off at the end by paying for it in the front end of the loan.. but the banks don't want us to realize this or try to penalize us for doing so, by trying to deduct from the end of payment schedule..... We went and applied for the "senior citizen discount" on our property taxes and went from $900 a year to $198, and I inquired about the house insurance, but they said they dont do discounts on homeowners ins, you can even get senior discounts on some utilities if you apply, they have it where we live and you can get reduced rates if your income is below the amount required.
@almurry89433 жыл бұрын
We pay property taxes twice a year and insurance once a year. But we do have the senior citizen discount for the property taxes. It cut our property tax in half. Right now, we pay a little over 600.00 every six months. My husband and I decided when we paid our house off, we would open a separate account just for paying property tax. We put a set amount of money into it every month so that by the time the tax and insurance is due, the money is there. It works for us.

Elizabeth- that's what we did 15 years ago. We had a big house when the kids were growing up and one month the electrical bill was $350 OMG I hit the roof. Anyway, our small cabin in the woods was paid for. When the kids went to college, we told them we were selling the house. They were happy for us. We have a well, wood burning stove and use very little electrical power. Now the most we pay is under $300 mo. It is a different lifestyle and not for everyone. When you calculate what you make and factor in car payment, gas rent mortgage and utilities. The only drawback is the long winters.

Congratulations on again being debt free! Having the mortgage paid off is such a wonderful feeling. I live in Ma, am 72, and just lost my husband this past Jan. And now the taxes are going up a lot. Paid every third month (quarterly), so almost like having a mortgage again on every third month. Sure am glad the mortgage is paid off! I'm so happy for you.

So sorry. Losing him must be so hard. Taxes can still be high, but it does make such a difference that there is no mortgage to also deal with! Praying that Jesus will bring you strength and comfort.

I am 62 with pension and soon SSI and i have had no mtg since 45 and owned a condo and a house. Sold condo last year. I put away 39% a year for the last 12 years in 401k and owe nobody since 45. Its no pressure on living conservative like you folks. I know so many people not prepared and live upside down every time the car or house needs repairs or dental or health issues. I am so grateful i did not live for the moment. Thanks for your video support and kids need to be taught this at a young age so as not to have a culture of have nots.

Congratulations about being debt free again! We had a similar experience, debt free then had a mortgage and now a paid off home. We had large homes but being in smaller....right under 1400sf we love it, we got a great deal and the previous owner had purchased solar..we live in the desert. You guys are an inspiration to many...l so appreciate live minded people!God bless! So sorry about "Pop" but we know where he is!
