I admire those who learn these life lessons early on in life. I am 45 years old, I am still in debt, but with this type of advice, I feel confident that I will be able to change things around. I now see that something as simple as organizing and prioritizing can have a major impact on financial growth.

Some extra tips is that the modal shown is not necessarily going to reflect your situation, it is important to understand what is a need or a want or a semi-need. Semi-needs are wants but cutting them comes with some kind of consequence that you would really rather not deal with. For example, a parent might watch Netflix sometimes but the children also use it and cutting it means that you AND the kids have to go through withdrawal which really sucks. Also, things like clothes are a person-by-person basis for example, I never spend money on clothes that aren't needed for something because I hate shopping for clothes, but others LOVE shopping for clothes for the sake of it. So, if spending money on something brings you pleasure then it is a fun expense, otherwise it is an incidental cost which is also a great thing to budget for.

Its important to have things in black and white , especially if you are a couple and have different ideas about money . If one of you is sensible about money and the other is a spendthrift, you are going to have a horrible relationship. More couples break up over this than just about anything else because wasting hard earned money is seen as a betrayal. Please take this advice from one who knows.

Great Video thank you for sharing! My only gripe would be what I saw on the spreadsheet at the end --> you will always want to tackle the high interest before low interest. you have good credit so you got a great rate on your car loan - in this scenario i would suggest paying the minimum or slightly above minimum payment on while putting more towards that high interest cc at 23%

First, take care of your basic living expenses. Then make sure you have 2-3 months of living expenses set aside in an emergency fund. That's your fallback. Then you can continue with your debt payoff plan. Very little will go to savings while you pay off debt but that's why you have your emergency fund in place.

This is perfect! I want to get better at budgeting this year, and I gave myself a deadline of the end of the week to make a simple one. I can definitely use this! Thanks!

That is a good idea. I just created a video that explains the 6 main budgeting styles and which one might be best for you. It will probably be helpful to you.

I did not see where there was any budget for car maintenance like tires or oil changes. I also didn't see car registration. Where would those go since it's not monthly?
