I don't see much wiggle room in rent unless she gets roommates or something, $850 is a pretty decent price these days 😢

Teachers also need to stop spending on their classrooms. They need to start demanding better budgeting from their employers or forgo decorations.

Subscriptions need to go 100% if you are spending more than you make. Those aren’t necessities.

The streaming services can add up quickly now and have been swapping around monthly on some of them instead of having all of them every month. It allows the one that don't have to add some new content so by time reactivate it, there are plenty of new shows and movies to watch on there for the month or 2 that keep it active.

I noticed she is putting money to classroom supplies. What about soliciting donations from parents, in kind or in cash for this.

I work in a school im in the same boat i have to do uber and doordash to get extra money. I also just added a $3000 dental bill and now have dental payments even though i have dental insurance. This is on top of other debt. I was trying to get out of debt but i just got deeper in it. And I actually by accident had dropped my phone in the toilet.

Hey Justine - I've talked to you before in the comments of videos and have a question. Im legally blind so I can not drive a car. I live in Nashville independently and use Uber and Lyft for transportation. There's not really any public transit here. Besides cabs, is there other alternatives to Uber and Lyft that you know of? I ride with friends when I can. I'm debt free and use your budget toolkit religiously to help me reach my financial goals.

A lot of times your ins or disability can help with car rides places. Contact your local disability office to see if they provide services like that. Sometimes its just for doctors appointments, but every little bit helps. And sometimes if you live close to a retirement home, they have a van that takes the seniors places a few times a week. Try and see if you can sweet talk the manager into letting you ride with them to places like the grocery store or mall. It's worth a shot.

Random question is your emergency fund the same as your savings
@DebtFreeMillennials

Yes. The emergency fund is savings for any unexpected expenses.

We have separate ones. We have an emergency fund that is fully funded and then we have a savings for other things like projects, travel, etc.

I'm confused about the car market in the US. It seems strange to me that 6k would be considered a super cheap car. I assumed that cars were just super expensive there but I've just looked it up and used cars are cheaper in the US than in New Zealand (where I live). 6k is a pretty good budget for a decent car, is it not? my car was 5500 NZD (3390 USD) and I consider it a nice car (not fancy, but good!). I feel like maybe we value having nice cars less here?

No 6k is a barely running probably going to visit the mechanic soon car. If you want a decent car that will last several years 15k would be what you need. However the car market is entirely dependent on what someone will spend. So it fluctuates.

Good point. I’ve had my car 5 years and have only needed new tires and wiper blades but there’s definitely some luck there
