Notice during the election that every time they said "Uneducated voters," they meant people who had only finished high school? They had 13 years to indoctrinate them and want to call them uneducated if they didn't get four more years of indoctrination. Plus, parents taught their kids to walk, talk, and eat despite not being physical therapists, nutritionists, or speech pathologists.

“you’re not qualified to teach your own child!” “So you’re saying completing grades pre-K through 12th isn’t enough qualifications to teach those exact grades?” My son is special needs and people tell me I can’t homeschool him. My friend has a severely autistic child and she pulled him out, the school said “You shouldn’t pull him out, he needs to learn and the socialization” well, he was spending 90% of the day in the sensory room, other 10% was hand over hand and not actually teaching. They even gave him food so hot it burnt him! Currently, a few years into homeschooling he has started talking and showing progress! Homeschool is better for ALL children and there is no special degree for special needs classrooms. Anyone can teach in the classroomb

We had a set of grandparents who were very unsupportive of my parents' choice to homeschool us. They had the usual arguments about socialization: "They'll grow up to be WEIRD!" We are all now in our mid 20s to 30s. Of our generation within the extended family, we four are the only group of siblings with no divorces, no out-of-wedlock kids, nobody r*ped by a peer, no teen pregnancies, criminal records, drug addictions or OD deaths. All the aforementioned occured amongst my cousins. If skipping all that is "weird" in today's culture, let my kids be weird as hell.

That's actually why they hate home school. And I'm talking about the government and the left. Your grandparents probably believed the lies and were genuinely wanting what was best for you. To me thats why you homeschool, to spend more time with your kids. And to prepare them for life.

I quit in 2014 when I was told I could no longer give grades below 50% (even if the student turned nothing in), I could not penalize late work, and I had to accept wrong answers for full credit if the student explained their answer, and a boatload of other BS.policies designed to make the admin/building statistics look artificially good. I was homeschooled back in the 90's- early 2000's. I went to college full time at 15, graduated Suma Cum Laude at 19 with my Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Business with no debt thanks to PSEO. I had my first professional tax internship at 17. My older brother graduated with his doctorate in Chiropractic medicine at 24, he owns his own very successful practice. My sister graduated with her Master's degree from the Mayo Clinic Physician's Assistant program at 21, the youngest recorded. She joined the military and was promoted to Captain in the medical division. 3 tours in Syria, Somalia and Afghanistan. My little brother graduated as an Electrician at 17, then went back to school after working to save up. He graduated at 22 with his double Major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and no debt. We're all happily married with children of our own and plenty of friends and we're good friends with each other, I talk to my siblings at least once a week. Also, our dad was a Fedex Courier who made $45,000 a year and never went to college. We weren't rich. Homeschooling was the best thing for us

I appreciate the sentiment but disagree. The two are very different professions. They are combined in certain situations (when soldiers need healthcare while soldiering or nurses having to deal with patients who lash out) but the two are very distinct from each other with their own roles. This claim made in your comment ignores the distinction between the two. As an Airman, I would never want to take up the nursing profession. Those professionals have to be nicer than I have to be when dealing with people. The nurses shake their finger at us when we tell them WHY we have black eyes and bruises (yes, we were asking for it in our own way). @Kroh13

I want to homeschool, but the idea of going back to high school math, English, chemistry etc. gives me anxiety. I wish lots of former or disenfranchised teachers would open up their own homeschools, teaching small classes and zoom online. They can teach different grade levels throughout the day / week to help homeschool parents with the tougher subjects. I would imagine it wouldn’t be even as hard as opening up a home day care. Teachers could make a lot of money.

No they literally aren't. Where do you people come up with these blatant lies and say them with a straight face? Every homeschooled kid or person I have ever spoken to in my entire life is insanely awkward socially and has literally no clue how to interact with other human beings. We have one of them in our Discord server and literally every person who talks to them thinks they are super weird and annoying to deal with. Homeschool kids do not have a clue how to be a friend to another human because they are super selfish because they were homeschooled and raised that way. They don't know how to speak to other people because they never had any social interaction as a child because they were homeschooled. They have no clue how the real world operates because they were sheltered in homeschooled as a child. They are ignorant on so many things that most people take as common knowledge. Speaking with a homeschool person is like speaking with a mentally stunted adult who never made it past the fifth grade
@HickoryDickory86
@HickoryDickory86 Ай бұрын
That is exactly the reason, Alaina. Your son has to interact on a regular basis with people of different age groups and, if I were to guess, different social circles as well. I was one of the early homeschooled kids back in the 90's, and relatives always warned my parents that we would be "weird." Of the six kids, we have four engineers, a nurse, and an accountant, all from excellent universities. Four happily married, one engaged, and nine (going on ten) grandkids. But I think the biggest marker of success is that we all still like eachother and get together every Sunday for dinner (other than the two military siblings who live too far away). And most importantly, we all want to give our children the same upbringing that we had.

My 6 siblings and I were also homeschooled back in the 90s and early 2000s. We also were told by relatives that we'd end up weird, but now I have several cousins who homeschool their children! I have several siblings who own successful businesses, and one has a doctorate in music and was a college professor. But yes, I agree that the biggest marker of success is we all get along, love doing things together, and don't argue and fight! People always liked to use the argument that homeschoolers are 'unsocialized'. However, it's the homeschoolers who can relate and have meaningful conversations with ALL age groups, and not just our peers, like is all too common for people who've gone through 'classroom school settings'. In school settings, you grow up spending time all day, every day with only those your own age. When you're home schooled, you are with younger and older siblings, there's more time spent with parents and grandparents. You learn to socialize with different generations and age groups. Also, during my 20 years of having jobs, employers have always really appreciated that I was homeschooled. My first employer told me that he would rather hire homeschoolers because they are honest, trustworthy, hard-working, and take initiative to keep themselves busy and get things done without having their hand held every step of the way. To me, it's the best way to go.

I have a cousin (by marriage) whose wife homeschooled their seven kids. They ended up starting the school year a full month later than the public system and ended at least a month earlier. They also started their school day at 9:00am and were most often finished the mandated lessons by around noon. They then spent the afternoons doing extra learning or more advanced hands-on lessons. Plus, the younger kids ended up skipping several grades because they couldn’t help but also learn what was being taught to their older siblings. As a result, all of them ended up graduating early and all of them absolutely aced their province’s standardized tests. The oldest ones are now in their early 20s, had their pick of top tier universities to attend and, again, aced their classes, and perennially made the deans’ lists.

I work in the public school school system in California. I am in contact with every student on campus, K-5, daily. Yes, home school your kids. Financially, you also overlooked that kids have to keep up with peers. Bags/packs, shoes, clothes, those infernal water bottles, etc. All to the current fashion and highest price tags. Then, there's driving them twice a day. I will, however, offer a viewpoint on the social aspect. Upon returning after TWO YEARS (2 weeks to slow the curve, supposedly), it was clearly evident how crucial social interaction is. 2nd graders had the social development and communication skills of kindergarteners starting second semester. That's where they had left off. It took the full year after coming back to live school to get all grades back to the normal controlled chaos of public school. As you said, when homeschooling, remember to keep your kids involved in their community, church, etc., both with peers and adults. Oh, and don't allow your kids to pick up the habit of calling adults "bro". If you're mannerless, boorish, and rude, hire a tutor to teach them manners, at least.

I’ll push back on the social comment with my own interpretation. Not only did in person schooling stop so did any and all social gatherings. While I’m sure the lack of social development was evident I’m not sure that can be attributed solely to the lack of public schooling.

My cousins were all homeschooled, and I did homeschooling with them for a year. Best year of schooling I had. I went to the best public school in my state, and homeschooling taught me so much more, and I basically didnt have a teacher. I taught myself. My cousins all ended up very well adjusted, one was a manager the moment she turned 18, and literally had the company beg her to stay when she recently quit. Another is currently honor roll at a really good state college. They were honestly better in social situations than public school kids because they spent their time with both kids and adults. They learned to communicate with adults from a young age, and it launched their professional lives early on. One of them went to Washington DC for competitions and awards as a kid, the negatives of homeschooling are a myth. Its all about if the parents actually make the kids do the work, and if the parents study to find quality materials.

We love homeschool We started during Covid because we had to…. But we told the school we were doing it our way because I wasn’t going to be on schools weird little virtual schedule all day with 3 kids to juggle. They let us pick up materials twice a month and we would hand in all of our work then. We did this with my son from kindergarten-2nd grade. I was told he was the only kid actually finishing his work and we were getting it all done in less than an hour a day. Once the school re-opened, they required masks and we asked if we could continue the way we had been doing it, they agreed. In 2nd grade my son was the only one doing the homeschool option and he was TOP of his class for their yearly standardized testing and was mentioned in their morning announcements for his awesome test scores. That gave me such a boost of confidence and I started homeschooling my daughter when she was 4…. She just turned 6 a few days ago and she’s been doing 1st grade work for months… and just like her brother, we only do about an hour of school Work a day and we have so much time to focus on other skills and playing together the rest of the day ❤️❤️ we are so blessed to have this opportunity. Our bond is strong, we are training her in the way she should go, and I know she is safe and well loved all day…. We attend church Sundays and Wednesdays, she just finished gymnastics, and she’s joining parkour in January! She’s always got something fun to do and opportunities to hang out with other kids her age. Her best friend in life is her big brothers and her cousins but I know that we could make more playdates at church if she didn’t have her family.

And I will say this too: Were I ever blessed with my own children, they would be homeschooled.

I have a favorite memory of my grandkids’ early homeschool days. It was my daughter-in-law’s turn to host, and the other moms stayed after pick-up for an impromptu picnic. When one of them counted heads, she wondered aloud if this counted as “socialization”! The kids were between infant and 9-10 years old. The olders looked out for ALL the youngers responsibly enough for the moms to have some coffee and a little adult socialization. I have been in awe of these parents and children. The absolute highlight of every year for me is still the annual homeschool conference. If you’re reading this, and wondering,… GO FOR IT! Find a way to make your support group, be creative, and be prepared to be amazed, even on a “bad” days!

I left my career as a CPA to be a stay at home mom and now homeschooling my child. Best decision ever. She’s in kindergarten now and we do school for about 1 hr each day plus breakfast and bedtime read-alouds since she was a toddler. Her vocabulary is already at a grade 4 level because of all the time we have spent reading good books (classics mostly with advanced language). We do field trips all the time and do nature study outside, plant gardens, go to musicals and live theatre and orchestra/ballets, study fine art. Love spending time with her! And she is better socialized because we interact with people throughout our day of ALL ages, not just peers her age. We are also part of a homeschool co-op that meets once a week and Girl Scouts. It can be done! I’m so grateful! Our cost for the year is about $3-4k because I buy a LOT of books and learning manipulatives/games plus the cost of our co-op and extracurricular activities/field trips. Curriculum for the year on its own is about $1k, but that can vary depending on what company you use and you can also buy partial used curriculum books.

We’ve homeschooled the whole time, my oldest graduates this year, my youngest is 4. We have been well below that 75k income for the entirety of it up until now. There are so many free resources, and once you’ve bought grade one you can re-use it for the next child. Or get something new if it didn’t work. It’s crazy how what worked for one kid didn’t for another, yet the public schools use the same for everyone. With homeschooling we learned that my boys need to do math standing up, and that making a laundry basket “bed” was a great place for reading. They all have passions they follow in the afternoons once the “official”’schooling is over, from Lego robotics, to jewelry making, drawing, writing, etc. They are free to work odd jobs, are active in 4h and at church, part of the chess club, and help out in our community. Wouldn’t change a thing.

We try to differentiate and individualize as much as we can, but at the end of the day, we have too many students, coupled with too many bureaucratic requirements (meetings, deadlines, curriculum benchmarks, etc.), and too little time in the day to do any single student justice.

The socialization claim has always baffled me. At what other point in life do you only interact with people your own age. Homeschooling allows children to constantly interact with all ages, from talking to the cashier at the register to dealing with older and younger siblings of their own and others families when getting together. When dealing with older kids the younger ones learn the world doesn’t revolve around them and the older ones es learn to include the younger ones.

Highly recommend. This is my first year homeschooling and I was super overwhelmed too. But the cool thing is you can cater for what your child’s interests are and what you think is important to learn. I just Google best homeschool curriculums for “____” and you’ll find a bunch of websites with their recommendations. Every website has samples of their homeschool curriculum so you don’t have to buy anything without seeing if you like the curriculum first. I use multiple courses for different reasons. I use Sonlight’s Literature/Bible/History because my son loves books/stories and there’s a huge emphasis on reading and reading comprehension. We use Good and Beautiful for math and language arts (phonics). We use Handwriting without Tears for handwriting (it really is the best at teaching handwriting). And for science I use Real Science Odyssey for its hands-on lab approach that includes the scientific method. We use Code Monkey for learning how to code software. Our son is in first grade. You don’t have to do as much as I’m doing. Especially not at 4 years old. I was only going to really use Sonlight and the Good and Beautiful. But he needed help with handwriting and he was super interested in science and coding so I wanted to do stuff he was interested in. As for 4 years old, I just read to our son everyday since he was a toddler. I read the classic stories like Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks, etc. and whatever topics he was interested in like monster trucks. Really if you don’t know where to begin, everyone in comments I’ve read and that I’ve spoken to says that reading out loud to your child is the best type of homeschooling there is. Also depending on the state you’re in (I’m in TN), you can sign up for some programs where you are in a school but where you are a teacher. My church members and I are all part of Homelife Academy. It makes things a bit simpler on the paperwork front when dealing with the local government. Hopefully that helps. I’ve included things that I wish someone had told me when I first started out homeschooling and I was super overwhelmed. Good luck!

It's appalling how little attention is given to reading, writing, spelling, and grammar in every class. I was told I was not allowed to fail any student. If they allowed cameras in the classroom, parents would be at the school's front office with torches and pitchforks once they see how much time is wasted during their kid's day. No wonder by 9th period (9 classes!) the students are zoned out. And this is a big district of 45,000 students.

I make less than a grand per month and have homeschooled my child since birth. When she was an infant, I showed her flashcards while I nursed. When she was little, we just did situational learning (counting washcloths when doing laundry, pointing out numbers and letters, talking about nature while outside, etc). When she got old enough to interact, we did educational games a few times a day for about 10-15 minutes at a time. Now she's 6.5 years old and we do school for an hour or two a day, 6 days a week, year round. She just did an assessment 2 January and tested out in 4th grade in math and language arts. She also studies 3 other languages, sign language, geography, Jiu Jitsu, Art, Music, Health, Science, Social Studies, History, and morals/values. She volunteers for 2 hours per week and if the neighborhood kids try to involve her in something that is inappropriate, she will say it's inappropriate and come home. You couldn't force me to put my child in public school, and she would think I hated her if I tried.

I was homeschooled all the way up until my high school years, Then jumped right into college level courses, my junior and senior year, getting my associate's as I graduated. Both my parents were working. My dad full-time, my mom part-time. The beautiful thing about homeschooling, is that it is completely flexible to your schedule. The student (AKA, your child) do not have to be restricted to a single location, they can bring their books and learning material wherever they go. I've learned to do school in the car, in waiting areas, and on my own when I was old enough. It taught us how to be self disciplined and eventually to be self taught. If I didn't get the assigned learning material done, I was restricted from doing anything else I enjoyed until it was completed and demonstrated proof of understanding. Socially I was involved with everything (4-H, Civil Air Patrol, taekwondo, High School sports, Church functions, etc.) What I have learned, is that homeschooling is not for everyone, especially those who don't want to make it work. But if you prioritize it, you can absolutely homeschool your kids amidst other obligations and responsibilities.

This system helped interactions. Up in Iowa, ran in to parents that homeschooled, got lesson plans online. Less distractions from fellow students in government school systems.

I never thought I would be homeschooling. I stopped going to school one semester away from getting my Bachelor’s Degree. I worked full time as a preschool teacher. My son went there with me until age 3 then when I was pregnant with my daughter I left during Covid. I started teaching my son at home and I loved it so much that I decided why can’t I do this for Kindergarten? Now my son is in 2nd grade and my daughter is in Preschool. I love homeschooling! In total class time we average about 2 hours a day not including time at the park, lunch and field trips/sports. Also we are a single income home, my husband makes 65K

I've been homeschooling my kids for 13 years now. Everyone should homeschool. There is no greater feeling than your child reading or doing math, etc.... and knowing that YOU taught them how and not some stranger.

Thank you for the reminder! I'm struggling to keep going and just feel like I'm unqualified to teach my kiddos. Sad thing is I have an elementary degree and am a licensed teacher.

I homeschool my 7 and 6 year old going on year 3. I school at my children's pace. And sometimes that meams year round however my children love "going to school" . They are more outgoing and willing to approach other children without hesitation. I do have a curriculum we follow. However, besides that, we cook together, garden together recently we sewed (it was just a button) but school is more than just reading and math

❤this! We’re on our 4th year homeschooling my youngest kiddos and they are well socialized. We have plenty of extracurriculars, sports, homeschool group, clubs and church group. They are around and converse with all walks of life, ages and beliefs. My only regret is that I didn’t have the same opportunity to do this for my 2 oldest kids growing up. Having kids be in both settings I can tell you the difference is staggering.

I love this. I have been a homeschooling mom for 17 years, so far. I fall more in love with homeschooling every day. My husband is the primary provider, and I have time for side hustles such as being a part time housekeeper/personal assistant. Home schooling is incredibly efficient. My high school students are able to get their schoolwork done in three hours.

We should do it the Amish way. Neighborhood Schoolhouses and the parents teach. I would say "without all the farming stuff", but to be fair, people should know basic farming. It will help to keep them from eating unhealthy foods if they have a garden and some livestock.

We homeschooled and private schooled our kids up to eight grade and then turned them loose in high school. The did amazing! My older 2 graduated #8 and #3 in their graduating classes. Shared Christ with many classmates and teachers. We taught them the critical thinking skills to get through.

I grew up in the public school system because my mother was a teacher in it. Even when I was isolated from my whole school and failing grades. I had friends at church who were homeschooled with social group activities, and they were always ahead. Even though I plead to try some type of alternative schooling, my mother could never let me because it would make her look bad to the school pulling her own child out.

There are people who put their children in daycare at not even 3 months old. I don’t expect people like those to care enough about their own children to homeschool them 😂

It’s wild. My husband told me about someone at his work that put his 3 month old into daycare. Mom is a high school teacher. We don’t know how they think that’s fine.

10:10 - Here's something interesting: In my state, at a 2 year college, you do not need any kind of education degree to teach college students, but if you want to teach in public schools you need at least a masters degree to just teach elementary students. Granted, there is a difference between the two, but you would think some kind of degree would be required to teach higher education. But apparently not.🤗

Eh… I’d rather learn from an actual accountant than an educator with no accounting experience. The best teachers in finance I had were the ones that were actual accountants.

My mom was a naturalized citizen with only 8th grade education and yet I went to college and earned a four-year degree. I was involved in sports and had a huge social life. ATTENTION PARENTS- you are the MOST qualified to teach your children. Stop listening to the teachers union nonsense!

My siblings and I were homeschooled. My dad was middle class wages and my mom worked after school hours for our extra curriculars. We ate from scratch, lots of soup & baloney sandwiches. All four of us are making 6-figures. I quit to homeschool our 5 kids, my husband brings the bacon and we are able to run a pastured poultry farm. The kids help w the farm, they run their own side gigs to bring in money, we go to farmers markets, hang out w other homestead kids, and we go to co-op where my kids participate in field trips, theatre, music, etc. no regrets. We teach history and civics up close and personal.

When I was in college, I would occasionally meet a person and think "wow, this is the dumbest person I've ever met." 100% of the time that occurred, the person was majoring in elementary education. That was an eye-opener. I wound up tutoring one of them in remedial algebra that should have been learned in 7th grade.

You don’t pay for books in home homeschooling. You also get an allowance from the state for extra curricular activities. My daughter does horseback riding and tending also martial arts paid by the state.

I think this is state dependent. The three states I've homeschooled in didn't offer this (maybe NY did, but we didn't look into it at the time), but homeschoolers were allowed to participate in any after school programs in the district.

When my grandson was 7, he was terrified because he was going to be tested to see where he was weaker and stronger, and to guide his path going forward. He was terrified of doing badly “Mimi, what if they take me away from Momma?”. Then the test results: “Mimi, I’m reading on a 5th grade level, and 2 grades ahead in math!!!” He never feared testing again. Has a solid work ethic, and knows where to look for information he needs if he wants to try something new. His current boss couldn’t wait until he finally graduated and hit a certain age so that he could be promoted and take on more responsibilities!

I was homeschooled all the way through. I am now homeschooling my 3 kids. It’s a gift! The time I am able to spend with them is not replaceable. Each day brings its own difficulties but I’m thankful to be able to teach them! Thanks for making the video, definitely encouraged me to keep pressing on!:) Backing up, when I was homeschooled in the late 90s and early 2000s I always felt like I wasn’t as smart as public school kids. I was definitely wrong and realized that my parents (a nurse and a university professor) had taught me the ability to learn on my own which was a huge advantage when working for my college degree. My dad always told me, “You don’t have to be the smartest, you just have to work hard.” He was so right!:) As far as socialization goes, we were very into sports as a family as well as very connected to our local church. I got a degree in Dental Hygiene because I love people and forming relationships with my patients. Yes, for sure, some homeschools are socially awkward, but there are socially awkward kids in public school as well!
