Even worse, it's not even about them being lazy, they do it on purpose so people get angry, which just drives up the views and engagement on the videos. It's literally a money scam.

​@@nihlifythat's exactly it. If you watch a video and all is well and it's relatively entertaining and informative, then a certain amount of people will engage with it. Then start to add in all sorts of incorrect things like misspellings (I've noticed this doesn't work so much these days), incorrect methods, dangerous methods, harmful actions, and even animal abuse, then people get annoyed or enraged and leave comments a ton more than the previous example. It's manipulative and bordering on evil, especially the ones where they promote dangerous and harmful practices. It's very much on KZbin for not doing anything about it, and in a lot of cases actually actively ignoring them because they get a lot of views which helps them out as well.

@@nihlify Yep. If you really hate a video, don't comment, don't dislike, report if it violates the TOS, remove the video from your watch history to help stop youtube from recommending the channel to you again and never click on something that channel makes in the future.

Daughter of a retired firefighter of 30+ yrs here, they LOVE LOVE doing these types of demonstrations. Every yr their department done an open house and kids would get to put out fake fires with the fire hoses, tour the station etc and they would always light something on fire to show what happens and the last one I remember was a car. Anytime they get to play with fire AND educate people they're happy lol

The reason why they sent the chocolate heart is cause Ann found one of these content factories such as "Tasty!" or "5 minutes crafts" that used that chocolate heart in a LOT of their videos' thumbnails but they never showcased it in any of those.

I wish firefighter demonstrations were still a thing in the states for public schools. It’s easy to say “don’t do this, it’s dangerous,” but seeing it yourself really drives it home!

The path begins with the first step. If you have children, sit down with the other parents and suggest something like this. A few positive votes are enough, even if not everyone participates. Go to the nearest fire station and ask if they would participate. Every firefighter is more in favor of prevention than extinguishing fires. Et voila, there is the demonstration.

My mom, who is an elementary school teacher, once got an opportunity to demonstrate it during a cooking lesson. Admittedly though, that was entirely accidential, she had just let the oil get too hot because she was distracted by something the students did. So she suddenly had a big old gout of flame on her stove and had an opportunity to show the class what to do about it, making sure to also explain that you should never use water on burning fat, though she couldn't demonstrate what would happen for obvious reasons.

The pringles can baking thing is a lot worse than it looks because those cans are lined with plastic that, while perfectly fine to store food in at room temperature can leech toxic compounds into the food when heated and could be a fire hazard.

@@elizabeatscancer It's fine as long as something that transfers heat well touches it. Dough has water in it and water transfers heat very well. You can also use a paper bowl on a fire to heat water. But, obviously, if the flames go around the paper, everything above the water can easily burn. So if the pringles can is filled to the top, the plastic won't go far past 100°C, which also depends on the other ingredients. If there's a lot of oil in it that could go up to 200°C and melt the plastic into the food. If the can isn't filled to the top, the plastic might heat up to flash point and burn your house down, but I don't know the flash point of the plastic lining, so I also don't know if it's at all possible to set it on fire in an electrical oven. I'm also not very eager to try it out 🤣 I'm with her husband on that one: Pringles? Really? Whyy???? 🤣 So, maybe don't try it at home, it's not exactly safe if you don't know what you're doing. Also, I don't know what the melting point of the lining is, but I do know that at least on type of polyethylene reshapes at 100°C. Sooooooo, maybe the plastic lining might melt onto your food depending on what you're making in it. Then again, with pringles and cola already in it I doubt that plastic is gonna be an issue. You'll poop it out anyway and it's soft.

It really annoys me that food youtubers very consistently ignore the advice of every fire service around and use open pans for frying stuff instead of thermometer controlled deep fat fryers with lids (which are so cheap). Shout out to @mrbarrylewis for being the only prominent food youtuber I've ever seen regularly use a deep fat fryer. In Anne's case there's a reason for this and Townsends gets a pass given they didn't exist in the 18th century. But for more youtubers there's no other reason than it looks slightly better on camera. But deal with it, it's less visual but people aren't going to burn their houses down. Chip pan fires as they are called in the UK are still responsible for a very very large proportion of house fires and this is in spite of massive massive reductions of the number of people frying food at home since the 70s and 80s.

I learned about the water on an oil fire issue when I was a child around 8. My mom had made beef ribs that night and put the tray they cooked on, on the back of the stove. Someone had accidentally hit a burner turning it on. I walked through the kitchen and saw the fire and immediately thought water would put it out so I grabbed a glass of water and threw it on the fire. Everyone came running to my scream of fear as the fire erupted. My mom's boyfriend put the fire out and immediately taught me why you don't put water on an oil fire and how to properly put one out. We were lucky everyone came running quickly because there wasn't much damage from the fire.

My son (6 or so years old) was messing around with a large citronella candle at our campsite one summer. It was coffee-can size, and almost gone but for a couple inches of wax left in the bottom. He was sticking little wick-like bits of wood in and lighting them, pouring melted wax around, just playing with a candle like you do. At some point there were rather a lot of lit sticks and you could tell he was feeling a bit out of control. Our friends’ son tried to help… and poured some water in to put it out. 😬 Yeah. Don’t do that. The fireball that resulted was truly terrifying. My son ended up with no eyebrows or eyelashes, and singed hair and a couple first degree burn areas on his face and neck. It could have been so much worse, but it was bad enough! The poor kid that doused it with water was so apologetic, he obviously had no idea THAT was going to happen. Ugh. A scary event.

Love these videos. I send them to my mum who works in a secondary school as a science teacher. She shows them to her students to show them why they shouldn’t blindly believe all these videos on the internet. They even recreate some of them that are safe/ able to do so in the science lab.

Love this! My mom did something similar when I was a kid, but it was about camera and editing tricks. Some discussion was going around the school about TV commercials and was it real blah blah, so I went home and asked my mom who worked in TV. When I told me teacher she asked if my mom would come to the school and explain it. My mom showed up with a bunch of camera gear (this is the 90s, that stuff was heavy) and gave a whole presentation on how so much of what you see on TV isn't real. She even brought on-site editing equipment and made a short film with all of us kids and edited it right there to show us how even simple tricks of editing, lighting, and camera placement can create illusions.

I once saved the house from burning down years ago when my dad, who was cooking while drunk, accidentally overheated the oil which caused it to light on fire. Thankfully I had watched one of your videos, which was shown in this video, on how to properly put out oil that been caught on fire like a few days before the incident happened in my own home. It's not unlikely it's actively malicious. The dangerous hacks are good for two things: outrage comments and outrage shares. When you post something really dangerous or stupid, there are going to be a lot of comments pointing that out and that drives up engagement. Furthermore, people might be more inclined to share it to go "look how stupid and dangerous this content farm is being!" which still drives views their way. Therefore, I'm pretty sure they actively post dangerous content because it makes them money through engagement and if there are no downsides to spreading dangerous instructions on a platform that's as good an incentive as any.

Instead they remove the thumbs down because "it was hurting legitimate videos". While sort of true, it was engagement and you would see more of those, not fewer, anyway. And reporting does not work, these content farms are making millions for KZbin in ad revenue, especially those that target kids (such as the ones this channel tend to debunk).

For the chocolate heart one, it was used a lot by 5 minute crafts and a lot of other content farms which Anne showed when she debunked the content farms. The sugar on the stick hits me especially hard because of the exact reason you named. Back when I was like 9 years old, I remember having a book filled with simple home experiments for children, and rock sugar was one of them. That was how I learned about the concept of oversaturation, and that hot liquids can dissolve more things than cold. I 100% agree that these "hacks" that are doomed to fail not only waste people's time, but they can be a huge deterrent from a potential new hobby or interest.

At the museum I worked at, I was a member of the safety committee. We had a couple firemen come out and start a fire in the back parking lot, where we then learned how to use a large fire extinguisher. I still remember PASS - Pull (the pin from the extinguisher), Aim (the nozzle), Squeeze (the trigger for the extinguisher), and Sweep (sweep the extinguisher from left to right and back again, as long as you need to smother the fire and the remaining embers/heat source). Every child should learn the acronym and have their local fire brigade show a safe demonstration. Every house should have at minimum two small extinguishers in kitchen and bathroom in case of electrical, gas or cigarette fires. We have three - two small and one standard size, and they are replaced upon expiration. My father saw people die in a house fire as a child, and he was terrified of fire the rest of his life. It was not something anyone should experience.

Those sugar crystals just unlocked a memory from my childhood. In Sweden in the 90s, it was really popular to have street vendors that had sugar crystal grown on string. It was a very cheap way of making candy, and kids loved buying candy by the decimeter rather than by weight. And it also lasted a really long time. Instead of 100-200 grams of candy in a bag that would be gone within a couple of hours, you had about 50 grams of sugar crystals that would last a week or two.

Just an FYI for the oil fire one; if your pot or pan doesn't have a suitable lid to cover it, a wet dish cloth will suffice. Don't drop the wet cloth *in* the oil, lay it over top of the pot or pan so that it covers it and cuts off the oxygen. Even better, you can buy fireproof cloths specifically for this purpose at most hardware stores.

My favorite "quick mousse" hack is just using a tub of whip cream and some pudding mix (no real measurements just to flavor) and mixing it in. It's so tasty to me lol

That sounds tasty! And in terms of ingredients and their purposes, it makes sense too. You've got the dairy and fat needed from the whipped cream, plus some dried milk from the pudding mix, airiness/fluffiness from the whipped cream, sweetness from both, with some flavor from the pudding mix, and lastly some sort of setting agent from the pudding mix. That's essentially how you'd make a traditional mousse if you were making it from scratch. (Now if you'll excuse me, I have some whipped cream and pudding mix to buy so I can stuff my face this finals season...!)

We had an oil fire demonstration at one of my school fairs in New Zealand. It would last about 20 minutes where they would go though and show us how to deal with different fires and make an escape plan for if there was ever a fire in our house. They would do these throughout the whole two days and it was very effective as I still use what they talked about 5 years later

6:20 a few years ago I had this where i forgot a pot of oil heating on the stove, it hit flash point and in my panic I put the pot in the sink and turned the faucet on. I could only describe it as the gates of hell opening in my face and the kitchen roof turning black from white. the house filled with smoke but thankfully the fire did go out quickly. I had washed my hands and just got a little water on my dry chicharrones, but the oil exploded and flew up, hitting me in the face. I've burned myself deep frying before, but this one really sucked since it hit the delicate skin on my chin and lip, instead of just my hand. Hey Ann I just wanted to comment saying this. I used to watch ur videos when I was much younger I’ve come back after years and I just remembered this channel, and omg it is still such a magical and deeeelicous place to be, thankyou so much for providing your viewers with these videos and I will be sure to keep watching
