If you look at the Reformation in the UK you see Priests, Ordinary Catholic which all English and Scots were murdered, hung drawn and quartered. Told to recant the Catholiv faith or be murdered, hung, denied property, tittle taken away, imprisonment. The Mases were held in secret for 250 years, there are Priest holes everywhere to hide the Priests. This is our History in the UK. Same goes in Bosnia when Turks murdered Priests and stole sons to make them Muslim. Its a phenonon like with Puritans who murdered Catholics . Same in France in the Religous Wars. I am off Part Hugoneot Stock and were ecpell3e from France Protestanst Hugonoets. But you have to realise these Wars were Wars of Men not God or the Whole Church

Okay, beer has been around way before the Catholic Church. Innocent until proven guilty preexists the Catholic Church. The Church historian in this episode even admits that. It was later codified again by the Church. Give credit where and how it is due.

@@joshportie Lies? Inquisitions typically involved a judicial process that aimed at confession and conversion. Local bishops working with local authorities under local circumstances usually conducted the inquisitorial courts. Their goal was to secure a person’s repentance for heretical views or for engaging in activities contrary to the faith. If that goal was not achieved and the person persisted in serious heresy, he would be turned over to the secular authorities. The Church conducted the investigations and trials. Punishment was left to the hands of the secular authorities. In Protestant states after the Reformation, the state conducted the investigation and trial and imposed punishment. An inquisition as a formal Church process was not codified until the thirteenth century. This formal institution was primarily to reserve to the Church the right to address heresy, as opposed to mob rule and the oft-incoherent secular courts that had frequently handled heresy over the previous two hundred years. It was a particular response, however, to the Albigensian Crusade of the early part of the thirteenth century that led the Church to formalize the inquisition courts.

I get what you all are trying to say, but no matter how you spin it, thousands of people were forced to convert. Many fled and others died, while others converted. I’ve been doing some research for a while about this, and I am a descendant of forcibly converted Jews. No matter how you spin it, it’s wrong, and I think the church should own up to its mistakes. We’ve made mistakes, and we shouldn’t try to excuse it away. No one is perfect.

@Terry Tater Oh. On doing research i found this: He tarried awhile in several Italian cities, and in 1579 went to Geneva, where he seems to have adopted the Calvinist faith, although afterwards, before the ecclesiastical tribunal at Venice, he steadfastly denied that he had ever joined the Reformed Church. This much at least is certain; he was excommunicated by the Calvinist Council on account of his disrespectful attitude towards the heads of that Church and was obliged to leave the city. Thence he went to Toulouse, Lyons, and (in 1581) to Paris. At Lyons he completed his “Clavis Magna”, or “Great Key” to the art of remembering. In Paris he published several works which further developed his art of memory-training and revealed the two-fold influence of Raymond Lully and the neo-Platonists. In 1582 he published a characteristic work, “Il candelaio”, or “The Torchbearer”, a satire in which he exhibits in a marked degree the false taste then in vogue among the humanists, many of whom mistook obscenity for humor. While at Paris he lectured publicly on philosophy, under the auspices, as it seems, of the College of Cambrai, the forerunner of the College of France. In 1583 he crossed over to England, and, for a time at least, enjoyed the favor of Queen Elizabeth and the friendship of Sir Philip Sidney. To the latter he dedicated the most bitter of his attacks on the Catholic Church, “Il spaccio della bestia trionfante”, “The Expulsion of the Triumphant Beast”, published in 1584. He visited Oxford, and, on being refused the privilege of lecturing there, he published (1584) his “Cena delle ceneri”, or “Ash-Wednesday Supper”, in which he attacked the Oxford professors, saying that they knew more about beer than about Greek. In 1585 he returned to France, and during the year which he spent in Paris at this time made several attempts to become reconciled to the Catholic Church, all of which failed because of his refusal to accept the condition imposed, namely, that he should return to his order. In Germany, whither he went in 1587, he showed the same spirit of insolent self-assertion as at Oxford. In Helmstadt he was excommunicated by the Lutherans. After some time spent in literary activity at Frankfort, he went, in 1591, to Venice at the invitation of Mocenigo, who professed to be interested in his system of memory-training. Failing to obtain from Bruno the secret of his “natural magic”, Mocenigo denounced him to the Inquisition. Bruno was arrested, and in his trial before the Venetian inquisitors first took refuge in the principle of “two-fold truth”, saying that the errors imputed to him were held by him “as a philosopher, and not as an honest Christian“; later, however, he solemnly abjured all his errors and doubts in the matter of Catholic doctrine and practice (Berti, Docum., XII, 22 and XIII, 45). At this point the Roman Inquisition intervened and requested his extradition. After some hesitation the Venetian authorities agreed, and in February, 1593, Bruno was sent to Rome, and for six years was kept in the prison of the Inquisition. Historians have striven in vain to discover the explanation of this long delay on the part of the Roman authorities. In the spring of 1599, the trial was begun before a commission of the Roman Inquisition, and, after the accused had been granted several terms of respite in which to retract his errors, he was finally condemned (January, 1600), handed over to the secular power (February 8), and burned at the stake in the Campo dei Fiori in Rome (February 17). Bruno was not condemned for his defense of the Copernican system of astronomy, nor for his doctrine of the plurality of inhabited worlds, but for his theological errors, among which were the following: that Christ was not God but merely an unusually skillful magician, that the Holy Ghost is the soul of the world, that the Devil will be saved, etc. So Giordano was burned for saying and not regretting that the devil was a good guy.😐😐😐 On the other hand, the exaggerations, the limitations, and the positive errors of his scientific system; his intolerance of even those who were working for the reforms to which he was devoted; the false analogies, fantastic allegories, and sophistical reasonings into which his emotional fervor often betrayed him have justified, in the eyes of many, Bayle’s characterization of him as “the knight-errant of philosophy” They gave him 4 chances,but he did not repent. Truly an insane man killed among the other 499 people by the spanish inquisition.

It is important to note that the inquisitional freak out over converted Muslims and Jews is that the Ottoman Turks had almost conquered Malta with help from North African Muslim states/emirates. The Spanish monarchs, people, and church were terrified, especially at this time, that these converts would serve as a fifth column for an Ottoman Turkish invasion. After the threat of an Ottoman invasion retreated, the inquisition focused less on the converts and more on heretics and Protestants.

I’m in your channel to listen to the other side of the story. Yet I’m not so naive as to think your “evidences” and expert are not just reading from and explaining from Officail Catholic written helps and history. Take some time and study Peter Waldo. Read up a little on the Anabaptists. Any way you seem like good dudes. Have a great weekend.

@O R I hear ya. But I have come from Protestant background where I saw corruption in every single Church. The point is that where man is, also lies evil. And where men of faith are, there is good. I refuse to leave the Church because I fight against the heresies inside our own Church. But there are so many great men and women of faith who are light in the darkness as Christ commanded. He commanded to be the light in the beast of the belly. Your ideals don’t fit across the board. I am an American and proud to be part of it. But I also resist against the evil government officials that attack our own freedoms. Christian Romans didn’t leave Rome but laid down their lives to fight evil with love and sacrifice. They stood for what they believed and their being Roman did not stop them in following Christ first. So as a Catholic, I follow the Church that Christ formed through St. Peter. We have 2000 years of grace mistakes. And all old faiths including new faiths today have screwed up because of fallible. But we must not surrender of Churches to evil but resist the evil veins that continue to try and destroy MY Church. God bless and thank you for your reply. I do completely understand where you are coming from. Hopefully, I have helped you understand where Catholics like I come from. God bless!

Interesting that you brought up St. Joan of Arc. The Catholic Church wrongly excommunicated her on the charge of heresy and handed her to the state to burn at the stake for cross dressing. This was not the first case of the Church completely wrongly convicted people and villages as a whole. The CHURCH handed these people to the state to make sure they would die. No, they didn’t have the authority to kill but they made sure to have the state do their bidding. This is why in America we have the separation of Church and state. The Catholic Church abused its authority hence the reason for the Protestant movement. Though I completely disagree of Martin Luther leaving the Church, I understand how this happened. So as opposed to Martin Luther, we have Catholics like yourselves with critics thinking skills. Though I see your point that on paper, the idea of bringing nations together under the Church to reach complete compliance looks great: in reality, the corrupt leaders all the way up to popes proved to have evil intentions and abuse their power. We this now, with Pope Francis who is stating heresies lining up with the movement of “world peace”.

Hi. Your friendly neighborhood witch here! I'm not some other denomination of christian here to troll. I know I'm considered filthy but hear me out. 1. Witches were butchered by both catholics and protestants alike. The split is more protestant however. Your point is legitimate. But let's not act like catholics weren't involved. The split is definitely more protestant. 2. Churches of the modern era are way different than the past. To hold modern catholics to all the crimes of the church of the past is not fair. Glossing over the crimes of the past is bad too. 3. The early Inquisition was very decentralized. Until Torquemada was installed as Inquisitor General, there was very little oversight. Most of what you mentioned about torture was installed by him, beforehand is where much of the worst occurred. 4. The Inquisition was wrong. It doesn't matter that the state was the primary body executing people. I'm not in the mood for "heresy was a crime worth torturing people over". Yes that's a paraphrase but a fair one. The church viewing the forced coversions of Jews as legitimate is very problematic, and they should not have been subject to torture. Arguing over the specific history is fine, but let's not act like it isn't a form of barbarism.

I'm actually disappointed more people aren't angry. The Catholic Church does have some culpability yet they gave The Catholic Church a pretty soft pass. Did they mention The Inquisition was actually supported by a Papal Bull which is when it started. The Pope at the time was under a lot of pressure to issue it but it effectively gave The Inquisition the blessing of The Church. And it took the Catholic Church over 300 years to have it stopped. I'm sure they could have done a lot more to try to stop it. I can't been tell from the video if they all think The Inquisition itself was fine. Even if there had been no torture or killing there's no way it was okay to do that to people. Different times sure but they still should have been more critical of The Catholic Church's role.

1st of all, what part of the inquisition made it a genocide ? B/c it wasn’t targeting any particular group, and there was an organized trial to all those who were convicted or publicly accused. From my understanding, a genocide is more deliberate and less likely to occur in a judicial process like that of the inquisition. Just because you have strong feelings about a dark part of history doesn’t make it true.
@FernandoDiazJr
@FernandoDiazJr Жыл бұрын
@@HailMaryFullofGrace-tt4du Maria, feelings doesn't make something false either. Christ was convicted in an organized and public trial. Was it not against God? Do strong feelings against his crucifixion make it less true? Genocide can occur both within and outside of legal frameworks. An obvious example is Nazi Germany, where Hitler institutionalized genocide through legal means, involving the judiciary. Genocide in Germany was systemic and not isolated in concentration camps. The Spanish Inquisition can be considered genocidal in its systematic attempt to eliminate mainly Jews. That's the ugly past. In the present, outside of history, the devil has used the tongues of these men to defend one of his greatest victories...

oh beast of h*ll, the devil lied to you. Venerable Fulton Sheen spoke of you here: "If we leave the Cross out of the Life of Christ, we have nothing left, and certainly not Christianity. For the Cross is related to our sins. Christ was our “stand in” on the stage of life. He took our guilt as if He were guilty and thus paid the debt that sin deserved, namely, death. This made possible our resurrection to a “new life” in Him. Christ, therefore, is not just a teacher or a peasant revolutionist, but our Savior. Our modern world does not like the word “sin.” What is forgotten is that sin is not the worst thing in the world. The worst thing is the denial of sin. If I am blind and deny there is any such thing as light, I shall never see. If I am deaf and deny sound, I shall never hear. And if I deny there is sin, I make forgiveness impossible . I believe that the whole political and religious situation of the world can be summed up in terms of the divorce of Christ and His Cross. Put the Cross-less Christ on the right side, and the Christ-less Cross on the left. Who picks up the Crossless Christ? Our decadent Western civilization. Christ is weak, effeminate, with no authority to drive buyers and sellers out of temples, and never speaks of self-discipline, restraint and mortification. Who picks up the Christless Cross? Russia and China, where there is a dedication to a common ideology, the use of discipline and authority to keep peace and order. But neither can heal. The, Crossless Christ leaves men burdened with their guilt which festers in a thousand psychosis and neuroses. The Christless Cross cannot save for it ends in Dachau, the Gulag Archipelago and the squeezing of the lives of millions like grapes to make the collective wine of the State. Which will first find Christ with the Cross? The totalitarian states who have the Cross without Love, or the Western world which has “love” so often erotic-without sacrifice? We do not know. But we do know that at the end of time, when the great between the forces of good and evil takes place, Satan will appear without the Cross, as the Great Philanthropist and Social Reformer to become the final temptation of all mankind."

@@JPX7NGD Not at all, I haven't forgotten the threat of sin at all; I'm quite mindful of it... all-too-much, in fact, as the hazard of sin in and of itself crowds out any ability to even be remotely aware of Christ or His personality... it's really all I think about- but sin in and of itself always comes from above, never from below. Sin in and of itself is the service of the above by the below, which's quite the opposite of how Christ would have it.

Revelation and the book.of Daniel...it's long if u want me to point it out I will. The bible calls the Catholic church BABYLON THE GREAT because of the statue of Babylon... mentioned in Daniel...the head of Gold is Babylon and the legs Rome and feet and toes are Europe...where Catholicism has spread..the bible says a stone will strike the feet...that stone represents Jesus...there are other scripture where it identifies the church. Of being the antichrist...
