Honestly, as a trans person myself (Im not a trans woman but i consider myself agender transmasc), I really hate how he goes like "the trans girl was one of the few good parts of the show" and only mentions two parts of her that are good, her being trans is such a big part of her and the shows exploration of how trans people move to thailand due to the inequality in south korea, the fact she was in a high position in the military, and got fired leading her to not have any money to actually even live , the small touches letting her try and fix up her hair for the picture, her bonds with Guem-Ja, it's like he doesn't actually care about her and finds her better trans rep because "she just exists guys" when what makes her good representation (from what I've seen other people say plus my own perspective) is that she represents that transitioning is so much harder then people say it is, the social pressure, but also that she's allowed to still like more traditionally "masculine" things (she can literally shoot people down), she's still considered a woman by the narrative. She also has actual character outside of that! I got heated can you tell

Every critic in a nutshell: No, like actually. This is what every critic does, say shit about the product yet don't elaborate, have egos and try to "rewrite" it to their liking while completely missing the point, not doing research, etc. There's nothing wrong with having the opinion that you don't like something but when you go against the original intention of something and basically insult the writers especially since a lot of the problems aren't even his fault (like seriously, I feel so bad for the director and how he's treated from Netflix), then I don't think you are a good person. He's just like every critic except he actually draws and animate stuff for his videos to which I already got sick of looking at especially with what it's associated with. There are changes that get made but those are usually swapping out certain phrases and sayings that wouldn’t make sense to someone who doesn’t live in that culture. Also slightly related but they have begun to call the original Japanese/Korean versions and their source material “woke” because of the typical bullshit reasons they call everything else woke, like having non-eye-candy female characters, black people, and LGBTQ people merely existing within the piece of media.

I don't wanna be the "aLeX mYeRs iS tHe nEw cInEmAsInS" guy but like-- A lot of his newer content shows that he rarely even watches the things he reviews now. Back in the earlier days of his channel when he wasnt so chained to the algorithm (a problem of most if not all big channels nowadays) he would watch the show and do these with criticisms that actually made sense, or were funny. Now you can tell that he doesn't watch much, if not any, past a surface level 1-2 episodes, but you can't exactly blame him when the algorithm demands these kids of short quippy and wrong style reviews of The Current Thing. You either have to glaze it with WHOOOOA BEST SHOW EVER ITS A MASTERPIECE or Popular Thing is Awful, Actually. Alex's channel has turned into the latter. I’ve known Alex Meyers for a long time and I feel like his reviews are rarely actually reviewing. Like sometimes he will actually voice issues he notices but the majority is just making fun of characters. But ya its hard to tell when he’s being genuine or not so a lot of ppl take everything as criticism and it shapes how they see the content

I like your video but, Alex isn’t a critic. In fact, I think a lot of times it’s pretty obvious that he’s joking. Like the crypto scam thing. Also, why all of a sudden, everybody hates him? I mean, I think that he isn’t really that funny but. Everyone is saying that he’s annoying and unfunny and a bad critic. Also, he wasn’t saying that the voting shouldn’t be there, but he said it took up WAY too much of the show. But I’m too lazy to defend him.

While I do agree some of your points, there are some which I don't agree with. Firstly the first 2 episodes set up an interesting plot but the rest don't carry out anything, the crew doesn't do anything, (mostly because they dont get enough screen time) they just lose a couple of men, they were all just going in circles and it's not really interesting, at best we accomplish that the Captain is betraying them and only we the audience find that out, if you compare this to what Jun-ho did last season, you can see quite the difference. Secondly I agree with Meyers when he says 'nothing happens' Gi Hun is playing the games again and tries to convince the people to stop but they don't, he doesn't get to know more about the games or anything in particular. Thirdly most people come here for the games and barely any were good. Fourthly there were good character dynamics however the character development was all over the place and barely all the characters were getting any screen time. Fourthly the ideology stuff only last for an episode, it doesn't make the show interesting at all. Fifthly I agree with Meyers, we don't get to know much about the games. We just get to know about the guard's motivations and stuff, that's all. Tbh if u criticised his video on the first season, it would have been a lot, s2 isn't that good (it's barely mid) especially when u compare it to s1

18:10 I see and understand your point here but what makes the show interesting is both the characters and the games. They make you love these characters and then throw them into fatal game after the other. In season 2, it focuses more on character (which is great) but because of the small amount of games, not many really died. Only 3 (if I remember correctly) important characters die in season 2 while. It felt like there was less of a risk since most of the characters survived. Still a great season but it lost that risk and intensity of the previous

I disagree with the spiderverse comparison. At least Squid Game S2 had a satisfying conclusion to the season in spite of the cliffhanger, things ACTUALLY happened. Across the Spiververse is all set up and no pay off, It's the worst example of a cliffhanger in recent history so I'd argue it's valid to criticize it for wasting a few hours of your time only to tell you "fuck you, see you in a few years LMAO". Another thing is that for Squid Game, season 3 is releasing in a few months. How many years has it been since Across the Spiderverse?

I know Korean culture isn't something that's known by virtually everyone alive like it's some golden rule, but him calling the Mingle game "not an actual game" and also implying that it wasn't a Korean childhood game too really just speaks out how much this guy only focuses on pumping out a quirky lil animated video that puts all its attention on Ace Attorney animation and expressions except unfunny, instead of trying to put in the bare bare minimum amount of research to even justify any of these "complaints" with these stupid jokes. If I would have a big criticism for the second season, it would be the first two games. 1) I liked the Red Light Green Light in this season because we see how Gi-hun tries to save as many people as possible and that moment when the soldier recognizes the man with the daughter in the hospital. But compare it with the first season, I think because we know this game and the MC knows it as well, there's not that much tension to have. It's not a big deal, I kinda expected it when I saw the trailer. 2) The Six-Legged Pentathlon had a chance to be very tense, but the way it was treated... I just wasn't able to take it very seriously. The characters seem a bit too cheery and energic to think they take it seriously, and the song that is in the background just doesn't work in my opinion. I didn't hate it, I actually like the mini-games they used. I just think there wasn't enough tension. Also, I think it would have been great if both teams were competingagainsts each other. Like you have 5 minutes to do all the games, but if the enemy team passes first, your team is dead. Also... am I the only one who noticed they changed the doll from the first season? Like, it seems like they've made a completely different model this time. WHY?

The way he said, "whoever runs the games now," and didn’t mention Front Man even once in his video makes it clear he doesn’t understand the show at all. Does he even remember who the Front Man is? How could he not know "who runs the games" when stopping the Front Man is literally Gihun and Junho’s main goal? I bet he didn’t even realize Player 001 and the Front Man were the same person lol. I remember being a hugeeee Alex Meyers fan back in 2020-2021 or somewhere around that time, then kinda fell out of watching him because as I grew to watch channels that gave genuine commentary, I felt Alex’s comedic style based around self depreciation and (as much as it sucks to say it) Cinema Sins level critiques just weren’t for me anymore I don’t think he’s a bad guy or anything, just that he gives AlexClark vibes (except if the high levels of sexual stuff from AlexClark was replaced with high levels of stale sarcasm)
