I remember reading about the fire when I was nine. Have always thought about them and have prayed for their families and the survivors.

That day is written in Chicago history as well as the world. These 92 children and three Sisters should never be forgotten. I'm glad that WTTW in Chicago shows documentary films about it and honors the Community of the West side.

One correction. This is not the statue from the fire in 1958. It’s the one from the new school built on the same site in 1960. It was moved to Holy Angels Church on Roosevelt Rd. during construction at the mission.

I remember reading a poem about this fire it began “God was in need of angels to walk his street of gold”! Does any one else remember this poem? I can’t remember the rest of it!

The BVM nuns are no longer at Our Lady of the Angels parish. Now they have the Fransiscans of the Eucharist serving the parish and archdiocese.

It was definitiely the 13 yr old boy that started that fire. I do not dare say his name so as to not cheapen the names of those his fire killed. Sure on his death bed in old age he said he didn't do it, but everyone knew he did and he will have to asnwer for it even after death.

No one is "worshiping" the statue. It is a symbol. Christians do not worship a cross, or a Bible or a church, or a painting of Jesus.

The statue of the Virgin Mary is not worshipped. It is sacred artwork, and a reminder of our incarnational faith. There is no biblical basis for self-appointed 'reformers' inventing their own sects. I can tell you where that is in the Bible. Read in the rebellion of Korah (Num. 16) and you will see Almighty God's judgement on self appointed reformers and prophets. (Also, I want you to notice the arguments used by those would be reformers and compare them to the protestant reformers of the 16th century. And God's judement on those wicked men). Or should I say 'profits'? The Roman Catholic church was looted in protestant ruled areas. The land stolen, buildings dismantled, roof lead melted down and sold, church bells melted down also. All to enrich the protestant kings and their friends in the nobility. All in the name of protestant 'salvation' , 'purity' and 'putting the bible first'.
