@DecafisHere I totally agree with your point about how great (and refreshing IMO) it was that Ryuuko showed no romantic interest in anyone during the series [not counting the bonus episode at the end with the date]. Even back then as a teen, I was so impressed by how goal-driven Ryuuko was. Unlike most characters, especially female, she wasn't deterred by a love interest, male or female. She simply was out to find her father's killer and get revenge. Its so rare for a character to be so driven, even today. Matoi's personality influenced a couple of my characters in fiction writing.

I love Ryuko, but my god I am utterly IN LOVE with Satsuki. She is possibly my favourite fictional character of all time. She is so complex, from the way she is willing to coldheartedly use those closest to her (Uzu, Gamagoori, Ryuko) for her endgame, no sacrifice is too small for her. But deep down she is doing these awful things for the best reasons. As much of a flawed character she is, she is utterly polarising from start to finish and her development when realising she can’t just use people as tools but rather she has to work with them is great. I always love the Machiavellian type characters and Satsuki Kiryuin might just be one of the best. I (like you) also love that Ryuko doesn’t have a love interest. But I feel conflicted about possible romantic connotations regarding her relationship with Senketsu. I don’t personally see them as romantic but I think there are elements that show thier bond was deeper than friends, lovers, family or symbiosis. Soulmates perhaps? Idk, I just feel that their bond was something that can’t be described as clinically as platonic OR romantic.
@anubis74575 ай бұрын
Tbf, Senketsu was created with human DNA (which is why he has a personality and isn’t hostile like Junketsu). The show doesn’t specify but I imagine the Doctor used either his or Ryuko’s DNA in the process, which would make Senketsu a brother or else a part of Ryuko.
@drfabulous28045 ай бұрын
@@anubis7457 yeah, I think there is definitely a familial connection, but at the same time I think they are a mixture of symbiosis, family, best friends and lovers (but not in a romantic sense). They are literally two beings who become one when they synchronise. I think their bond is so special and can’t labelled or put into a single box. They loved each other deeply, not romantically, but it was a deep love all the same. Like they were as equals throughout the series, given Senketsu didn’t really exist or know what life was before Ep1, and Ryuko was a lone wolf until the start of the series. They both learn from one another about themselves and about each other, Senketsu helped Ryuko open up her heart to others and taught her how to love. Their bond is like the ultimate friendship without romance muddying the waters or being as clear cut as blood related family. I think KLK sends a strong message that romantic love is neither the strongest or the most important kind of love, hence the wedding scene being mostly negative and Senketsu and Mako crashing it shows Ryuko that friendship is more important and is the kind of loving bond that will remain eternal, while romance is fleeting and fades.

The dad and son harassing Ryuuko is an important part of the show as it reinforces it’s facade as a show filled with fan service. i don't want to be rude here, but while i think most of what you've said is right, it's a shame to not hear any mention of the larger themes of the show. what makes kill la kill so interesting is that it is an anti-fascist, anti-capitalist, fate-defying narrative with boatloads of subtext. though, i still don't mind a smaller scale analysis of the characters 👍
@DecafisHere5 ай бұрын
@@shub_a_dub_dub by no means is it rude to point out that I didn’t mention those themes. However I feel that sort of analysis has been really fleshed out. I wouldn’t know what else to say. @@DecafisHere that's fair, ultimately it's your video, and kill la kill is just as interesting to analyze on a character level than a thematic level. i'm going to disagree on the claim that that analysis is fleshed out though-i'm currently working on a video essay (different channel) about how kill la kill desexualizes the characters, which i've never heard anyone say. kill la kill is really interesting because it doesn't only hold up at a basic level, but even at the highest level of analyses as well (for reference i'm an english major, i've read a lot of papers about power systems, discrimination, fascism, etc.); the more you know when you watch kill la kill, the more you see in everything, from the dialogue to the story to the themes

This anime is a brilliant anti-fascist masterpiece
I think the social commentary is also well integrated like how the lower classes are play things of the higher classes and how class and money allows weak people to do terrible things. We live in a capitalist system where our livelihoods and often our homes are owned by powerful capitalists. One of the few criticisms I do have is that I would have liked about 1-2 episodes more of "filler" to help establish the status quo. Maybe a good one could have been that the family is about to be kicked out onto the streets by some greedy corporate landlord which at the end Ryoko has to beat up. I think it would have made the later episode where they get assimilated into the academy more powerful if you had an episode that really explores how impoverished they are and what that means. I also would have liked an episode that was mostly just school to show how absurd and over-the-top the school is with some club president at the end.

This video describes why I love Kill la Kill so incredibly much. The anime has been with me for over 8 years and I enjoy every second that I watch. recently even with friends of mine. This anime is so much more than just the one Pogchamp meme or the anime the more naked the stronger you are. The anime is so much deeper than you think. I love Ryuko very much because I can empathize with her and her determination really grabs me. like Ryuko e.g. Wanted to take off Junketsu so she could wear Senketsu again. her death doesn't matter at all. The main thing is that she can carry enketsu again, carry her closest friend again, with whom she has always had an ear and fought through every fight since she was at school. Ryuko always warms my heart and I want to be like her. her strength and determination and then her self-acceptance of what and who she is exactly and what her goals are. Kill La Kill is a masterpiece of the anime industry. and then this background music with a quiet Before my Body is dry instrumental makes this moment something very special. my Fav Sounddracks are Ambiguous, Gomen ne liko ja Irarenai(the first ending), I Till Die and Before my Body is dry:[nZk] version and more wich I can´t write. This video really made me cry again. ❤🔥✂

The messaging of Kill La Kill would anger a lot of fans. The fan service in other anime is brushed off and most become forgettable. Kill La Kill stands out because It did what most anime could never do. Studio Trigger’s anime is not able to tap into mind of modern audiences because of how stubborn and idiotic they are. Fans, not all, call everything “woke”, which dilutes the power of certain stories. When I say it would be cancelled.
