Thanks for your decal purchase from www.fusing.shop! Even if you’ve never used waterslide decals before, you will find you are an expert in no time! I encourage you to watch the video through to the end as I discuss many ins and outs learned through my testing this summer. Most of all, HAVE FUN!
You’ll get full instructions in with your shipment, and make sure you scan the QR code to join the private Facebook group!
Remember to adjust your firing schedule to YOUR KILN. Personally, I would not fire these higher than 1225 or maybe 1250 for more than 45 minutes for the best outcome. This means you’ll need to create your full-fused base first (if that’s the direction you want to go with your design).

Great concept. I’m very curious on about your decal. What material is the black? It can’t be glass paint if you are soaking it. I’m old to stained glass and new to fusing

Order in! I used to do custom decals of my own design and always vented the kiln until the backing material fired off (can tell by the smell and a quick peek to see that the backing had burned off). I would then fully close the kiln and continue with the program. Did you or do you vent at all in the beginning? Also, are your circles Tekta with frit fused on top or have you used clear frit with colored frit on top in a dam or round mold? Thanks! Much success!
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gail! I haven’t noticed any need to vent the kiln on these at all. I’m laying the frit down dry on the shelf using a ring as my temporary dam, then I remove the ring and carefully place my tekta disk on top and fire. (I will show this in a future video.) personally, I like the extra depth the tekta gives to the piece, creating a floating effect between the decal and the frit. That’s just my personal taste though.

Are you putting the decal on the frit side up or frit side down?
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
I’m doing decal on frit side down, so fruit is under the layer of tekta and decal applied to tekta. I like the little bit of depth you get that way.

quick question. The written instructions that came with decals say 125 - 1150 with 30 minute hold. this video says 60 - 120 minute hold. Which reflects your most current thinking? Thanks - very excited to fire my first pieces with the decal!

Are you using one piece of 3mm glass for your blank?

For about three years, though I started doing stained glass more than 20 years ago. But I love fusing and do that exclusively now. ❤️

I have a question about your or any really decals. I made the stained glass rounds but used to much frit so not a lot of color shows through. Can I turn that into useable frit with the decal still on it?
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. If you fire it hot enough, it will nearly completely disappear. You might want to throw the piece in with your next full fuse load and then assess from there. Based on what I’ve seen, my hunch is yes but I wouldn’t try it on some thing with a high cry factor in case any residual material causes issues. Good luck!

These are beautiful! Do you think they would work in a microwave kiln? Or do you have any smaller sizes.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No, this is the only size I have (though they could certain be cut to any shape/size). I do not know how they would work in a microwave kiln - I do not own one and do not know of anyone who tried… sorry! My guess (and it’s only a guess) is that they may not work as you need to hold the top temp for a long time (60 min) to fully set the decal so that it does not rub off. Is that sort of hold possible in a microwave kiln?
@Dulcilady
@Dulcilady 2 жыл бұрын
@@JamaisonSchuler I don’t really know. I’ve done a few decals Buy none of them mentioned holding. They are so beautiful.

I go to a studio for working on and firing glass. Are the temps you mentioned in your description a slump or fire polish temp? Thank you.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I fully understand the question… are you asking because the studio uses set schedules and you have to pick one? The 1425 firing for my blanks is a full fuse (on the lower end, many would full fuse at 1475 or even hotter - I find that unnecessary in my kiln). The 1125 recommended to set the decal isn’t a temp you see much - it’s more of a custom temp. It’s too low for most slumping (which is usually 1180-1200 for me) and definitely lower than a fire polish (typically closer to 1225 or 1250 for me).
@deannagross9283
@deannagross9283 2 жыл бұрын
@@JamaisonSchuler thank you, that explains a lot but will it cause problems to run the decals at a higher temp as I don’t have any control over running the kilns. Thanks again.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve had decent experience running the decals at a slump temperature without too much degradation, but your problem is going to be the hold time. I truly think the decals need to be held for about 60 minutes in order to fully set and be scratch proof. Any slump schedule is probably much less time than this. So even at a temp around 1200, 1225 or even 1250, just 5 or 10 min at that temp may result in risking scratches later.

I purchased your show special of decals. The one on the bottom of the stack had NO tissue on top and it stuck to the paper of the one on top of it. How do you suggest I separate them. I was trying just to sperate without wetting, but am afraid it was tearing the stencil.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 3 ай бұрын
Yes, there were a few from the printer stuck together, so I included those and just added enough others. Can you confirm that you got at least 15 good ones? You can peel it off the best you can dry, then use some white vinegar on the one that might still have paper stuck to the surface. That should remove the paper, giving you a “bonus” decal.
